Since when does 110-120 kmph become 80kmph? That 1.5x the speed limit in India. Daft are you?
When will you start using your brains??? 110-120 kmph for those places where people don't jump dividers , traffic rules are followed by everyone , fence on both sides of the road to keep the cattle out. And most importantly there are no bullock carts/tractors/cycles and other slow moving traffic on the road.
Its not just the road which decides the speed limits.Traffic conditions are also to be kept in mind.
but this is exactly the kind of close minded crap that's bogging the country down!
yeah right , I agree with the your argument that closed minded selfish thinking is bogging the country down.

Thats what I have been trying to say , people who think they know how to drive/ride , its just about using the A(ccelerator)-B(rake)-C(lutch) . No traffic sense. If every tom , dick and harry gets a gun in hand , what will happen. It would be the same with motorbikes.

And if we are talking about big cars , then again we indians pay a huge premium for them .

Anyways I rest my case and reiterate that we should have more options , but at a price more than everyone can afford.Theres no point in talking to close minded people on a chat forum.

10+ years back we got similar saying in the world of 100cc's .

My uncles must have rejoiced hearing the news that they'll be getting 180cc+ bikes made by domestic manufacturer ..

Well the manufacturer's kept their promise and here we are with 100+ ccs to 220ccs..

Are we satisfied with these so called powerful machines? I drove a CBZ in 1999 and now driving a ZMA/220/Avenger/R15 etc. and I feel I am still in 10th standard with an extra tummy and a source of income.

Hope my grand children do not get a chance to complain like us

Big bikes, small bikes, cars, planes whatever... the only thing other than bad luck that can cause harm to people using these is stupidity... like Synn said, " Guns don't kill, people do"... people don't follow traffic rules, they don't wear gears, they have no regard for other peoples lives, they walk on the road and ride on the footpath... bikes have no sense of their own, it only does what the person riding it wants it to do... the same case applies to any bike no matter what its cc and bhp... its all about responsible riding... and its up to people like you and me to make people understand that...
Alcohol kills too... it makes people kill each other, cause domestic violence etc etc... but you don't see it banned... and its not costly so that only a few can drink... its all about choice, it ensures that those who wants to have a drink or two in the evening and relax can have it in peace... so why shouldn't bikers have a choice? more people are killed by cars and buses and trucks than by motorcycles... but that didn't stop people from buying BMWs and giving it to their kids... so why a bias towards motorcyclist?
and to a certain extent you can argue that the roads are bad... they are... but that shouldn't be a reason why we shouldn't have the choice of buying what we want... we are India for god's sake, a democratic country, not Cuba...

Where is this discussion headed to? What exactly is our point? This debate is endless. But, the question still remains - What Next? And probably we cannot answer this because there are "n" different answers for the "Next".

Like Ken da has stated in one of his threads on 'Hard Torque'..
A middleweight suits most of our needs perfectly..
Although one from the TVS or Bajaj stables doesn't really seem buyer material over a Honda, Yamaha or Suzuki offering..

Affordability however, can play havoc with my above statement
Hope the numerous gods connected with our mythology help us get a ravishing 250 soon for starters...

I am game for a good 250 too. And for a decent 600 as well. The former might soon be in the offing if rumours were to be believed. But the latter, seems unlikely, not too soon it seems.
The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

Well, the big bikes are available in the grey market. U can buy a Ducati officially in India.

But an Indian manufacturer making an international std. bike till say 400-600 makes butterflies fly in my stomach. Atleast when the bike will be in range 2-3 lacs!

@maverick:No concrete info bro. Just rumors floating around about a bigger Pulsar [or Bajaj] thats it.

will we not purchase a Busa for direct 13000$ i.e. 7 lacs INR or
a R6 for 9000$ i.e. 4.5 lakhs INR if available officially. and this is the point we are trying to debate on..

If available on these prices I will never ever think about their counterpart from bajaj or TVS ..

Its an era of globalisation now and I am in no mood to give donation to Indian low quality auto companies **...

** The way people donate to Tata by purchasing Indica , Sumo grande etc. having better and proven high quality options available like Toyota, suzuki etc.

Well said... But when can we get a busa for 7lakh rs ? or an r6 for 4.5 laks ?? In india..its certainly not... And lets not forget the import duties.

Its never a low quality.... We should remember honda...suzuki and yamaha...were the same some years back when they entered industry.

And a country like us... We use bikes for our daily commutation... People in india (most of them) dont want powerful bikes for commuting.

PS: I suspect that yamaha may increase its prices on their official bikes.

Thats another debate all together don't you think bro? The progress they did in the span of their existence, have we done for as long as we've existed?

Every year, the Japanese biggies shave off a couple more kilos, work on the electronics, the slipper clutch and so on. When the motorcycle is already 'good enough' why do they make it even better? Do we have that kind of inclination? Do we even bother? No surprise we make so much money that we are capable of buying out companies like Triumph and Ducati!

Is it possible to debate on this topic over a plate of biryani instead of a cup of coffee?

Its the Indian mentality (sorry for generalizing)... why fix what ain't broke... as long as numbers are sold nobody bothers... our manufacturers don't have the sense of betterment (don't know if that is even a word)...
