Hey Guys,

I'm Planning to buy SJ4000 , I'm not sure whether to go with dx.com dues to the customs issue. The Price is around 6200 for the original one, One of my friend is comming back from US next month , I can ask him to get it but I'm not sure whether he'll able to differentiate between original & duplicate. My question is in case i buy it through dx.com / aliexpress & it gets caught at customs how much will be the duty?

Regards,
Jayanth

It wont get caught. I have ordered many things from DX and aliexpress, latest being Helmet Bluetooth Headset and nothing happened. To get the difference there are many videos online that shows the Version number of the software, but for that you need to physically have the device. Although my friend got a fake one from flipkart, but its working good without any issues.

Thanks for reply.
I've seen the videos, the original one cost around 6.2k as per dx/ali website, the fake one around 4k. Should i ask the seller to put lower rate so that their wont be any issue in clearing customs? Which is better Aliexpress/dx .

The price is not mentioned on the packet and chill no duty would imply.

Got my first Action Camera
Picked it up from Flipkart.com for 1000 bucks (definitely worth a shot).

Its branded as Digiflip CAM002
Features include:
3m Waterproof
720p HD Video Recording (really..I checked)
Helmet.Handlebar/Wrist mounts etc...

Here's how I mounted it,It has a bit narrow field of view so mounting it sideways was out of question
with the camera on the top it covers pretty much everything in rider's view.
the video quality is pretty decent, and with a bit of tinkering in post production,I managed 1080p H.264 out of it.(Hows that for 1000 bucks!)

Uses 2 Alkaline AA Batteries with 3h:40m of video recording
supports SDHC upto 32gb.

I'd say beware of the fake SJ4000 even on dx.com
The original one comes at a little more higher price, and here is how it looks

If you have any questions on SJ4000 do feel free to ask on the video.

I'll probably make a comparison with m GoPro Hero2 soon.. on motorsports and underwater.

Customs absolutely know the SJCAM very well. Probably because lot of ebay sellers imported in bulk.
If you undervalue, they will open the package.. find sjcam and they know the price.
They charged hefty 42.49% on my camera, besides making it wait for a month at their office with no communication or replies whatsoever.

for single cylinder bikes the counter balancer will never nullify the complete vibrations also accounting to the potholes/patchy roads you will never get a good video/image and the wide angle view will be definitely hindered by handle bar /mirrors etc. the safest bet is helmet . if you dont like that angle. make a diy chest strap.
just my opinion.
Very true.
Despite that you can use the rubber plug that is supplied with gopro to reduce vibration and make sure the camera has the shortest mount (as in, not use extensions or L mount, rather a J hook) .. still there will be little vibrations.

Here's how it looks

Oh! Samarth is As I Ride? Never knew! 😅 Been subbed to him for a while now.

On other topics:

Actually, the Xiaomi Yi is really good for the price range. Bests a GoPro Hero 3 Silver and costs half that. The only real problem I had with it was the fact that it has no microphone port unlike the GoPro and SJCAM. And I only realised this AFTER the package arrived. So, I'm now looking for a good external microphone and an equally good sound recorder for my motovlogs.

But the Yi works really well for As I Ride, The Everyday India and RoyalJordanian types of Vlogs or if you intend to shoot the video first and give voice overs.

The Yi also has no good waterproofing solution and without this I haven't found any proper sidemount (or a chin mount) for the helmet. One work around for this though, is to use a waterproof case and get a GoPro curved mount which you can then mount either on the side, top or chin.

The Yi is great VFM, but ultimately, by getting a basic GoPro Hero, you'll be better off than getting the Yi, because you'll obviously have to spend at least half the amount on mounts and waterproof cases if you get the Yi. The only reason it worked out for me was because I'd bought a few GoPro mounts for a video project my friends and me had worked on (GoPro was my friends).

People.. Lets not forget about the Garmin Virb.. Costs in the region of 15k-17k and has a fair few class leading features. Plus.. No camera goes better than a Virb as a helmet mounted device. True hd, big battery life and completely waterproof..

AMotoVlogs : Not Samarth, but Samrat . He has an ISaw Extreme too, but rarely uses it. He loves the SJ more (We are SJ lovers/fans)
Agree YI is very well made cam, only if they would have provided the mounts and casing. Get Sony ICD PX440 sound recorder. Mine fell off from my pocket after just 1 or 2 vlogs. Everyday India uses it, he is a friend of mine too, lives nearby. RJ's Nuda is anytime my dream "ear-deafening" machine.

ALI.R : Indeed, only if I would have the money would have got the Virb. Loved some of the features, diff switches for cam and video. Not to forget the 2000mah battery. Damn ny SJ is only 900mah, and I have 3batteries. Which was enough for weekend tours.
