Have u upjetted ur bike or done anything ?

Cheers W

there seems to be something seriously wrong with fitting bro!!...how the hell is it sticking out in front of the battery, when the air-box is on the otherside+ how is your side panel closing with the filter sticking out like that???
btw you have to change the carb settings and the air screw settings to "rich" mixture. Tell the mechanic, pick up chaiye, fcuk the mileage, he will do it right.

@ me is rossi: It's not in front of battery! It's perfectly fine. See, Battery opens on the other side, getting me?

This side (now visible) is the Air Box Side. With Air Box removed, you can see other side's battery too ...

@ Winzee: Actually, fitting the K&N is not a problem now.

Problem is that I tried to get Avenger's Jet which is a bit bigger, and I can't get it in Ajmer.

Any suggestions how to get it? What is it's exact name, if there is one?

We all know how many problems I faced with P180 already lean. I don't want to lean it any more.

myself, fitted a RC-1060 in my 05 model P150 and had to cut the airbox to allow more air but sounds and rides xcellent. I never thought my obedient and sane bike could be such a hooligan with this single piece of wonder!!! Its awesome

I have fitted k&n filter(rc1060)in airbox itself in r15 with ngk iridium spark plug. Is rejetting needed for r15 ?performance of bike has increased alot. Does it will harm the engine ?

Tushar7 No, you do not need upjetting on a R15, it does not even have jets and carburetor, it has fuel injection so the bike will automatically increase the fuel delivery to match the increased airflow.

Sorry to correct you.

R15's Fuel injection is an open loop one, which means it has no control over detecting and correcting AFR (Air Fuel Ratio). It does not have the O2 sensor in the exhaust which informs ECU about the present AFR. Assuming that even if it did have a Closed Loop system, even then ECU may or may not have compensated for such huge increase in air flow. Some motorcycles just switch on a console light suggesting engine failure, in most cases.

You need the right tool (I don't remember its name, but it was discussed on Xbhp) to adjust fuelling on the R15.

I hope now you get the joke I made in the wierd comments thread. R15 operates on a open loop system which will not compensate for the increased flow.

Do you mean the yamaha FID tool?

Re: Misfit K&N. How to install ??

I stand corrected, I thought open loop meant the ECU is open to changes and closed loop meant there is no feedback to the ECU. BTW one of my friend is running K&N on a R15 V2 and he claims the mixture is perfect, I even removed the spark plug to see if it was correct, and indeed the condition of the plug indicated a correct mixture. I was confused and when I went with him to the SVC, I asked an engineer which was present there about it, he replied that R15's engine runs a bit richer to compensate for the lack of torque in the bottom end due to R15 having a 4 valve engine. I was satisfied with the answer at that time, now confused again.
Samarth 619 are you referring to the custom ECU by Race Dynamics/Race Concepts?

Ihave fitted k&n R 1100 0n my pulser 180 ug4.even after turning the carburetor its not giving good performance and sounds like not getting the air.there was a faulty installation before that there was two holes one is given to breath one where open but its now currect.deos that coused my engine any problems. I have checked the spark plugs its light brown. I have tried 4.00 full turns 4.5up to 6tuns its not giving the smooth working engine. Please help me about jetting.

Google and common sense can answer almost all questions regarding upjetting. Still....

You have basically 3 ways in which the carb feeds fuel to the venturi.

Pilot jet-works at 0-1/6 to 1/4th of throttle. The air screw only adjusts the flow of the pilot jet. When you make the mixture "rich" with the air screw you are only tuning the pilot jet. So only up to 1/4th of the throttle is affected. Changing the pilot jet size affects the flow.

Bleed tube- sits over the main jet. Controlled by the slide needle. The bleed tube takes fuel through the main jet and feeds the venturi from 1/4th to 3/4th of throttle. The needle moniters the flow of fuel through the tube. Changing the main jet size or needle position affects the flow.

Main jet- works at 3/4th to WOT. Needle goes out of the tube completely. Fuel is directly taken from the jet. The bigger main jet u have the more fuel u can put in to your engine at max throttle.

When you have a bigger filter and you dont do jetting, your air flow increases dramatically but fuel flow stays the same. So your afr becomes lean. Your mileage will increase due to this and valves will most likely go due to the increased heat generated by a lean mixture.

When you upjet accordingly, your fuel flow matches the increased air flow. So power increases. Since you are burning more fuel, mileage decreases.

Short and simple, tuning the airscrew only helps for 1/4th part of your throttle. For the rest you need a bigger main jet and needle adjustment.

Try installing a P200 main jet and retune. If that isn't satisfactory then try a P220 main jet. I'm not sure if Pilot jet sizes differ on these bikes and if they do, change the pilot jet along with the main jet. The AFR screw should mostly be used for fine tuning.

Ok how much decrease in mailage in normal driving conditions and how much cost for jetting. I am need extra engine oil if k & n installed.
