  • r15 v2.0 strange engine behaviour

    Hello people.
I purchased r15 v2.0 two months back and currently facing some issues. The bike was pretty smoooth for the first 1000 kms and after the first service it had the same smoothness.First oil change -mineral oil. Now odo is 2800. around 1500 km on odo the bike started feeling rough and harsh. 2nd service was done at 2500km and the bike has become too rough ,lot of vibrations on handle bar and pegs once i cross 6k mark. and the noise it makes is too loud . doesnt ride like an r15. the engine feels too tight when i rip and feels like am putting lot of pressure on the engine. gets heated up very quickly. just after riding for 2 to 3 kms i get that tak tak sound after switching it off.. as I go past 6k rpm is feels as though some metal part scraping inside the engine and can be felt on the handle bar... rite now the bike is very harsh and i dont feel like revving it. it is not showing the characteristics of an r15. I rode other r15s, i din notice any vibes even at 10k mark and felt a lot lot smoother than mine. what mite be the problem?? it has been happening from past 1000 kms. got the air filter cleaned , chain lubed but still the problem persists .
    Please help me
    Thank You

I don't own an R15, still...check the engine coolant, check if it's there in the required amount or if it's there at all! You didn't mention it in your post so I am assuming that you didn't check it. So please check it asap if you haven't.

Other R15 owners would be able to provide more help.

Thank you for the reply.Coolant level is full.tightened all the bolts nuts.never used any other fuel other than shell .the engine makes lot of sound near the bore.vibration is 100% because of rough engine .the engine note has also changed. vibration and roughness is felt from 3k rpm mark itself.but after crossing 6k mark, the roughness makes me feel like some kind of an engine seizure

I own R15 V1 and have faced rough engine note only when the engine oil change was due or tappets were loose. Do you hear 'tac tac' kind of noise. If yes than get your tappets adjusted. If you suspect engine seizure, check for engine oil level(the level will go down drastically). Also, observe for unusual exhaust fumes. Best bet is to get the bike thoroughly inspected by some competent mech. at SVC.

I insisted on Mineral on my first 1000km ride during oil changes. The service center guys kept on saying that the sound of the bike will change and advised me against it though I went ahead with it. Any clue why it would change ?

The tak tak sound is only when i switch off the engine after a few km ride. the sound that comes from the silencer while cooling down.. u can take it as pat pat sound. tappets adjusted at jus 3000 on odo??? i had actually felt the engine tightness at around 500 on odo but the engine became butter smooth after first service.... i insisted on mineral oil....second service went for SS yamalube and bike has become like a tractor..

no that is not true.. Oil will not make a difference in terms of sound of the bike. but fully synthetic does reduce engine noise to a an extent..

Also has anyone noticed that the self start sound of the V2 is a bit louder than the previous version??? i have checked this sound on atleast 20 new r15s and each one sounded different... around 3 sounded like the V1 and others were loud and screechy

Tick tick noise after switching off is normal - it's the catalytic converter metal contracting from cooling .
Did you ensure oil change in front of your eyes ? Service centers are known to top-up and say they have changed it . Which oil are you using ?
Anyway , your bike's engine seems to be overheating - ask yamaha service center to look into the issue .

                  Check the oil level first.
Sometime SVC guys drain the oil ,change the filter but forget to fill new oil.

Well why don't you try some other Semi-Synthetic oils ? i think the stress you are feeling is cause of the mineral oil inside it! R15 comes with a stock Semi-Synthetic oil right ? and why did you changed it to mineral oils ? i do own an R15 v1.0 and done nearly 28k kms in 1year and 4 months since now i havent ever felt any such kind vibrations from that engine It's such a beautiful piece of engineering try Motul 15w50 Semi-Synthetic oil it makes your ride buttersmooth

                      Do the following and lets us know if it helps;
                      Change SVC**
                      Change oil using flushing*
                      Fix tappets*
                      Tighten bolts
                      Tyre pressure*
                      Change petrol bunk.

The tak tak is probably petrol vapours.

                      *Important
                      **Highly recommended

AFAIK, 2nd service does not include an oil change (I don't own a R15 though), so maybe you're still running on the mineral. Replace engine oil with some good oil, also supervise when the job is being done.
                        For heating check the following:
                        * Check if the radiator fan is working or not
                        * Check if the radiator fins are bent/blocked/dirty
Its the fusion of a two wheeled machine & a human being which creates a true biker.

Try changing Yamalube to anyother better engine oil done 28,000 km's with my ride was having the same feeling, after the service buttersmooth for some 1000kms and again rockhard feeling and roughness i've changed to Motul 15w50 which made me absolutely satisfied with the ride's smoothness ! I heard that Yamalube is Motul itself but i do feel a lot of difference between both try and post your review here will be happy to hear
