  • HELP! R15 v1 engine check light and temperature light stays on after startup ?!?

    Hi guys

I have just seen an issue with my 2010 r15. The engine check light (orange one second from right) and temperature light (red one extreme right) are staying on for a few (4-5) seconds after startup.

If I use the kill switch, it does not stay on at all. Only if I use the ignition key, its staying on.

Also, my bike seems to take longer to start i.e 3-4 crank revolutions with the starter. Before it just popped into life with a single revolution. My bike is not due for a service atm, it is close to its service date though.

Can some R15 owners please shed some light on this.

    Much thanks in advance

    Shashank

Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

      Hi,
I had the similar problem in my R15 V 1.0. In my bike the battery was almost dead. I had to replace the battery under warranty and the issue was solved. The engine check light usually glows in case there are any faults in the bike. It can be either mechanical or electrical. Take it to the service center and they should be able to fix it.

Hey buddy, thanks for the reply.

Now that you mentioned it, I do feel the battery is getting weak. On the first couple of starts all the lights on the console do go out for a second.

Is it normal for the battery to die out in only 2 years. My bike has done 18k kms.

It is a maintenance free battery right? Or is it going weak because of my negligence, I have never checked anything on the battery.

        Thank you once again

No it's not because of your negligence. And yes it is a maintanence free battery.

The battery in my R15 died in 8 months. I think the quality of the minda battery they supply is bad.

Just replace the battery with a good one like from Amaron or Exide and it should last long.

          Cheers!

            Thanks man

Makes me feel a lot better knowing that there no major fault with my bike.

Will get the battery changed and then see if the problem persists.

            Cheers

              Hi Friends,

              Help Required.............

I had bought my R15 V 2.0,2 months back and today I installed Quad Projector i.e. 4 projectors on my bike every thing was working properly but when I drive it for near about 3-4 kms with the headlights on the engine check light glows and my bike stopped and was unable to start it through self. After that I start the bike by pushing it got started and engine check light was off, but when again I switch on the lights the same problem persist. Pls help. Is it is due to battery or some thing else.

                4 projectors?
Plz post pics with all lights on in both high beam and low beam. I'm sure its a battery drain issue. 4 projectors would suck up all the charge in no time.

EDIT - did you get this done in Dhanbad?

Battery issue. You see R15 is blessed with the puniest of battery. So for any electric modification, you can't disregard the limits.

No type of battery is going to help you in this issue. The issue is not of the battery, it is one of rate of power consumption and rate of charging. The 4 projector setup on your bike is consuming power at such a high rate that the charging assembly is not able to replenish the charge at the same or greater rate.

There are 3 options for you:

                      1. Rewind the stator (search the R15 V1 Ownership thread). A member (awesomeo) has done quite bit of work on the same.

                      2. Convert the current 4 projector setup to a 2 projector setup and add a 9 amp battery. Though I must note that it will not solve your charging issue, that will remain. Only thing is that you will be able to use your projectors for a longer time before drain out.

                      3. Go back to stock setup.

I understand your dilemma. I really do as I have used projectors for almost 18 months before reverting back to stock setup.

Dodgy wiring giving problems every 15 - 20 days. White projectors are completely useless even in moderate rains. Ultimately got fed up with the whole set up and came to the conclusion that it was better to go back to the stock system.

You can't run 4 hid's, simple, best bet run 2 only, I run only the left hid and on highways and dark roads I have a separate switch to fire up the right side bulb, though I don't use it much. As for the wiring I had done it myself, as most clowns (so called accessory shops) can't wire up shit, splicing and taping wires isn't the way to go, proper grounding is essential, other wise the ballast will keep going off and on, whilst killing you battery, anyways it's your $$$ and your choice.
Beware of Bread, don't say I didn't warn you!
More than 98 percent of convicted criminals are bread eaters !
Statistics show that more than 75 % of violent crimes are committed within 24 hours of eating bread !
Bread is known to be extremely addictive. Subjects deprived of bread and given only water, actually begged for bread after just two days !
Bread has been proven to kill. Scientists have now uncovered alarming evidence that 100% of the people who eat bread will eventually die !
