  • Issues with the FZ16

    Hi all

I have a Yamaha FZ16 which is almost 3 months old with 3 services completed. Initially it had a mojor problem where in the bikes top speed was only 94-95kms. After a lot of complains it was fixed how ever now my bikes mileage has dropped to almost 25-28kms/ltr under normal city riding. Is any one else also facing the same mileage related issue? What can be done to increase its mileage? What is the FZ16's top speed? By the way i also had a faulty meter which went dead in about 20 days of purchase but it was replaced at no charge.

I guess the FZ isn't known for TOP END, but it has good initial & mid range. I think after your complaint for top end, the service guys must have tuned it for performance & so your milage has dropped. This is what I think could have been the case with your bike. People who own one can may be elaborate on this.

the topspeed of the FZ is anywhere between 110-115kmph.....the average mileage should be 35-45kmpl depending on diffrnt conditions....its quite clear that your could have some problem from the beginning only.....are u satisfied with d servicing provided and do they carry out all the work meant to be done????check d spark plug gap,air filter, chain slack n lub, plus also check ur tyres .,....plus are you also keeping a tab on your engine oil???

i havent yet checked the topspeed of the FZ myself on road, though i have touched around 95-97kmpph(speedo reading)....according to that i feel that 110kmph is very much possible for sure...n yes the auto journalists have claimed that it mite touch in between 110-115 so i qouted them as i felt during my ride that it was achievable.....thoh i l post the topspeed soon after testing myself only(the speedo reading)..

            regards,

I have read in other thread that the FZ touched 126 on speedo. So, 95 kmph to speed is something wrong. Also, a mileage of 25 to 28 kmpl is not at all acceptable however you ride. My karizma gives a min of 32 kmpl even with sporty riding in city. I feel there is some serious problem in the bike. Better contact the regional engineer and explain the problem.

Hey initially when i bought the bike it could hardly reach 94-95kms and its mileage was about 30-35 under normal city riding conditions but once the top end problem was resolved its mileage has dropped drastically.

I have seen videos of the FZ16 going 126kms on you tube & not to forget that the official road test done by Yamaha has returned a top speed of 118kms.

Check out the auto bike mag, i guess nov issue, which has a RTR fi VS FZ16 section where in the FZ16 has beaten the RTR FI outright in every aspect.

I have read all the articles regarding the Fz-16. I have read shootout of all the 150cc bikes in overdrive too. That is why I am telling you, there is something seriously wrong. REctify it as soon as possible.

                    @ ravi

yes dude i agree with you...the problem might me seirious or might be some minor mistakes taking place on part of the service centre...

i never said that 95-96 top end was normal...i just said tht i have not gone beyond that speed on the bike n i am sure it will clock 110+...........i think you got me wrong there....

Somewhere in the forum i had read someone with the same problem, which got rectified after he changed which i think was the ignition coil. Please go thru the fz 16s thread.

I am sorry if i sound kinda stupid i am not sure what you mean when you say serious problem??? As initially top speed was my major issue and i kept stressing on the yamaha officials to replace the ignition coil (power coil) and now the problem has been resolved but you know what i thought that the engineer did some thing with the card rather than change the Coil.

I dont what to do as my bikes top end issue has been resolved how ever now the mileage has dropped drastically. Should i make sure, using the help of a local mechanic, that the yamah officials did really change the power coil or they just made some changes with the carb. Becaus if they did only twitch the carb then man i would be pissed.

if u know any trusted and experienced local mechanic, then you should get the bike inspected by him once and make sure there is nothing wrong on the part of the SVC....because my frend who also owns a FZ has a topspeed of around 113kmph(speedo reading) and gets a mileage of 35-40kmpl.....if your ignition coil has been changed then there are chances that the bike is not tuned properly.....what is the topspeed that you are getting now??

Well the best figure i have got is 104kmph and to be honest with you i am really not satisfied with the bikes performance. I feel that my bike can go more and do better but due to some issue its holding on & not to forget the mileage of only 24kmpl.
What can i do dude, i have almost ended in a brawl with the Engineer and after that god knows what he did the pickup did increase (Can be better) but the mileage has dropped. I am thinking to file a case with the consumer forum & send them a notice. I am so frustrated with my bike i feel like lighting it on fire.
                            MY YAMAHA FZ16 SUCKS
