Insurance - Original Or Attested Photocopy

If you don't have valid PUC or Insurance papers while riding/driving Traffic Police have the rights to fine you on spot (Fine amount varies from state to state)

As per the rules Traffic Police do not have the rights to fine you on spot if you do not posses Driving License & RC Card - One has the right to ask for Challan & appear in court with original License & RC Card after which judge will decide your penalty amount. However if you fail to produce the same it will be considered an offense and judge can penalize you with Challan amount as well as additional fine / jail time (Rarely happens)

Sadly Traffic Police are never interested in giving challan because its more paperWORK for them so either they will try to settle for bribe or let you walk free.

Places like Mumbai where now target system is applied Traffic Police will write a ticket for smaller offense and let you go, for eg. Driving without PUC is fined at Rs.1250 however if you insist on Challan stating you have the PUC but right at that moment then instead of challan they will try to make you pay spot fine of Rs. 100 & give you ticket for stopping on zebra line during Signal Red Light.

In your case you should have been fined by law however lazy a** attitude of a Traffic Police Inspector got you home free.

Taking down details of person they stopped is a regular play used by many Cops so don't worry about it, He was lazy enough not to write you a challan I am 100% sure he would do anything with your details as well.

PS:
Only Traffic Police have the rights to stop you & ask for paperwork of vehicle & driving license.
State Police have the rights to stop you & ask for your identification proof, if required inspect your vehicle but they do not have the rights by law to ask you for your vehicle paperwork.

Thats wrong. In some states even State police has been given the rights to check your documents since enough traffic police is not available and to lessen the traffic offences. Its between RTO & State police. One guy from RTO wil be with them. So it depends on state to state. In kerala, for not wearing helmet, your licence can be suspended. If you overspeed the speed limits mentioned for a particular road, You will be fined. Traffic cameras are installed as well as cops stand in some corners with the Computerised cameras. If you cross the limit instantly they will stop and give you the challan, Either you can pay at the spot or in the court. In case of camera your vehicle picture will be taken with the speed mentioned and the challan will come to the address registed for the vehicle no.
First Puc is equal to size a little less than A4 sheet and about 4 Times bigger than a visiting card
Second, duration is 3 months, not six months in bike (But cars made after 2010 can get a 1 yr PUc for a little more money).

PUC certificate is different in different states. In Mumbai its just the size of a visiting card as mentioned by Sidhaarth_ZMR. In some places its A4 size paper and in some states its half the size of A4 paper. And PUC is valid for 6 months in most of the states. in delhi its 3 months. And all new cars comes with default 1 year PUC validity.

In the meanwhile , I called my dad and i informed him , he asked me to give the phone to the cop. That thulla refused to talk to my dad. He said this to me in exact wordings' Mai to naa krra baat tere baap se, I am a govt. Servent, I am not entitled to talk to your father, I can talk to only my seniors. Now that's a problem, because to get majority of the work done in India, you need some sort of influence (sorry to say it but it's the fact). . .

Anyways, forget it, next time try to avoid cops and as I said get your PUC test done within a day or two and if at all which I don't think he will, send a challan/receipt to your place, you can just take it to the concerned traffic police station and show them the new one and request them to lessen it as stating that you forgot to bring it the other day. . .

Tips while paying the fine, try searching a guy who looks nice and good mannered, not all are mean and rude like the one you met. . . Go approach and tell him about your fine and that this and ask him to lessen your fine, he might help you. . .

Lastly for the cops, better try avoiding them. . . One or two cops hate me cos I had trolled them , so the best thing I do is avoid them. . .

About the recording, if they catch you start off with as if you are getting a call, take out your phone and act like you are receiving and turn on the audio recording, video can be a little difficult, place the mobile in your shirt pocket and start the conversation. . . If at all they speak to your rudely, do nothing but just simply and then go to the concerned people and speak about them about this, if they don't listen then make them the recording, keep one back up for your safety. . . Anyways nothing's gonna happen, he ain't gonna arrest you or impound your bike for just that silly reason, . . Chill and always try to speak as softly as possible, unlike me who gets pissed off with them. . .

Cheers!!!

Re: Got caught by a police officer

I have a question :
What are the Circumstances that a Cop has the rights to impound the Vehicle. (Exclude : drunken driving, accidents, wrong parking), i am asking in regards to not having any documents.
I have seen cops impounding vehicles, for not having the RC / owner proof !
It's a lot like nuts and bolts - if the rider's nuts, the ride - bolts!

Re: Got caught by a police officer

These cops are very moody.one day they caught me without helmet (just a day after I bought my bike and I was in market to buy a good helmet) and i told that my helmet is just stolen (showing myself really helpless), then he enquired about my bike's price etc and told me that i should have bought a nano. I agreed and he let me go.
BTW Whats the default PUC validity for a new bike.

Re: Got caught by a police officer

Looks like today's generation is so happy flaunting their "getting caught" by police acts and "not wearing" helmets looks like a fashion statement to them.

To their respective Guardian Angel : Save them

@OP : Seems like your queries have been answered in the beginning and other members discussing their "junk" is simply disgusting, please request the mods to close this thread.

prateek2210 , some people just don't understand what to convey when and where, nor do they understand that crashes don't happen ONLY after a so called 2km bar

Such a waste of thread

@TS.. Not all police officers are fools and not all are corrupt.
Best is to keep all your documents upto date. If you think that you might forget the renewal date, make reminders on your phone or computer.
If by any chance you get caught, always go for legal ways. Safe and sound.
