Gold Service @ Castrol Bike Zone

C-B-Z is crap. Most mechs there learn to fix/experiment on bikes after they join the floor. Meanwhile, most CBZs don't have stock of the authorised spares as they are a multibrand service point. So for every major part, they'll have to run to the distributors/A.S.Ss, etc. Sorry to dampen your enthusiasm boys, a better test of CBZs so called servicing would be on older bikes. Brand/relatively new bikes require very less work on the servicing front as compared to older ones. So, that would be the acid test I guess.

Hmmm well could be true for new bikes as well. They did not have the engine mounting screw for an RTR refresh. But i guess with all service centers, there is always an upside and a downside.
For old bikes, I know the head ache. My dad has an 18 year old Bull and has a tough time getting even small things done. Even the authorized service center in Visakhapatnam does not store all the spares. Each time a part is required, its couriered in from Hyderabad.
3 more hours and then i would be home and be able to test my bike after the servicing.Last edited by MaSh; 07-31-2009, 12:13 AM.**MaSh**

i have a querry ...i have gone through the castrol bike zone website and all the services they offer. they have mentioned that they change paper oil filter....is it there in all the bikes..coz i dont think my p150 has a paper oil filter. another question...how do they check the compression. is it really possible to check enginer compression without removing it.

Hi,
Not clue about the filters, but there were numerous Pulsars there for servicing. 180s, 200s, etc.
Compression check was done using a round meter attached to a pipe kinda thing. At the end of the pipe was an adapter that fits in the spark plug socket. The bike was then Kicked using the kicker and the meter showed some readings.Last edited by MaSh; 07-31-2009, 08:07 PM.**MaSh**

Alright I finally had a decent city ride today morning after getting the tail light bulb replaced and rear brake lever adjusted. The rear brake was sticking a bit. Mechanic said, the brake shoes have worn out, need to be replaced. I asked him to adjust to a looser setting and got the joints thoroughly oiled.
Apart from this the bike has never felt better. The engine has never sounded so light. The engine response is a lot better than before, the grip level is really good, no wobbling what so ever, gear shifts are as smooth as silk. Best, the little vibrations that had creep-ed in, which TVS service center had dismissed as old age issues, are completely gone. It actually felt little weird in the beginning
.
Over all, thumbs up to the servicing done in Castrol Bike Zone. Costed me about Rs.1600/- (Rs.395 + Spare parts).
I am from now on going to alternate between Gold and Silver services.
Mods: This thread has served it's purpose for me, you have the option to close it if its required, else CBZ discussions can carry on here from other bikers.Last edited by MaSh; 07-31-2009, 08:20 PM.**MaSh**

yesterday when pune xbhpians were have a G2G, i went to the castrol bike zone near sancheti hospital.
Reason: My bike had undergone a major repair a few months back..block piston clutch plates valves, crank shaft work etc etc change....the reason was that it was consuming oil and there was drop in pick-up and lot of noise from engine..... now it has again started to consume oil. last time the service center guys drained oil during regular servicing only 200 ml was left in the engine. now i m keeping a close watch on oil level. yesterday i had time so instead of my regular authorized service center i went to the CBZ, with the intention of getting a compression test done.... but they said they dont have the adapter required to check the compression of digital pulsar. they also told me that none of the CBZ in city is having that adapter. guys kindly help how to get the engine compression cheched. is this facility available at probiking service centers or u know some place where i can check this. the manager at CBZ told me this could be due to valve setting....guys kindly help...
my bike had done approx. 40,000 kms and is 2.5 years old. (Pulsar 150 DTS-i)

^^^ Had the same issue at the same CBZ. They didn't have an adapter for my Shogun. But I'm surprised they didn't have one for a Pulsy either?! Anyway, you should definitely be able to get the test done at a Bajaj ASC.
Yes, faulty valve setting can be one of the causes of a weak compression.
Btw, 40,000 km is pretty low running to warrant such major repair work....

@Raccon: repair was because, block piston was ****ed up ...and teh reasons were --
1) high speed long drives too often i.e. almost 2 times a week...with full throttle riding for long intervals.
2) was practicing clutchless shifting, when i opened the gearbox, fifth gear had deep scratches...may be the metal from gear scratch went into the block piston and screwed it.
3) one year back i had a major accident in which all the parts of bike were replaced except block piston. everything waqs changed....both wheels, fork, handle bar, headlight assembly, tank, chasis, everything....may be there was some unvisible damage to engine that mechanics were not able to identify at that time which manifested later.
anyway....the question is how to check the compression...coz i dont think authorised service centers can do that.

Did you ask in Castrol Bike Zone? The one i went to in Bangalore, had the adapter for bigger bikes. They did not have for Mine(Fiero), but managed to procure it from another center. But they did have one for the Bigger Pulsars. Give CBZ a call and confirm.
BTW, all parts changed, that sounds like a lot of Damage. Any pics?**MaSh**

The issue with castrol bike zone is that they do not use the original spares for a bike. They used Escorts shock absorber for my Fiero though the OEM was Gabriel. After that, I was unable to use center stand because of the change in height. In my opinion, it is fine for old bikes where it is difficult to procure original spares. I would not recommend CBZ for new bikes.
