Bro, since you be wearing the tube under your denim or cargo. it won't come directly in contact with tarmac for abrasion and its a web of elastic bands which holds the tube together. You can invest in the velcro strap type knee guards for peace of mind. it will still be way cheaper and effective.

      Right,

but jeans is also NOT abrasion resistant.. basically, NOTHING upon impact to tarmac is abrasion resistant..

so, when the surface hits the tarmac, the jeans WILL tear, as a matter of fact, all materials WILL tear.

the ONLY thing is, how long will it last..

I think that let's go to a bag maker, stitch a used cotton banyan to the back of a good Cordura, stitch some hooks/elastic to the back/some welcro so that the guards don't move.. that should do I think..

what you are talking about is direct frontal impact.. but in real conditions, we generally slide on the tarmac...

live long.. live happy.. that's the best revenge that can be served to the people who hate you..

Re: Made a CE Rated (Level 2) Knee gaurd for Rs 950

Hey Ajay. Great idea, I had a similar one too but it is very unlikely that the armor will stay in place in case of a fall, especially if it involves even a bit of dragging. But a classic ( biker hits turning car, gets flung up in the air and lands on shoulder, elbow or knees. Ouch!) non slide impact will be taken care of I guess.

I recently bought Forcefield armor for the knees, elbows and shoulders (Forcefield Net Replacement Elbow/Knee Armor - RevZilla). It is rated at EN-1621-1 CE level 2. This took care of the impact protection but considering the quality of roads we have (yes, even helmet standards vary according to the riding style, speed, etc of different regions, for example, ECE regulations interpret safety as proper fit, light weight of helmet, optical correctness of visor, good field of vision, etc - everything that would prevent a collision in the first place and also as impact protection, but the way the testing is done is that it is tested for impact only once, and the helmet is required to pass just this one initial trauma to be certified. This is inline with the lesser speeds of motorcyclists in Europe due to the twisty roads. Unlike this, in USA, where the roads are straight and relatively traffic free, especially when touring, the average speeds are much higher and consequently the SNELL standard involves a stronger testing procedure, with stronger and multiple impacts. The helmet has to be effective for all these multiple impacts. In fact the SNELL 2015 standard also includes a puncture resistance test using a sharp pointy object. Thus, these helmets are more rugged, and heavier as well), I wanted proper abrasion resistance.

I bought these so that they can be used with my future riding pants, and also in knee guards when I don't wear riding pants (not recommended, but for neighborhood grocery hopping type rides, chores). I initially planned to use a cheap knee guard to put the armor in, but then it wouldn't stay in place in case of an accident, so thought of fabricating my own based on expensive ones.

The best plan I could then come up with was to use perforated leather (1.2 to 1.5 mm cowhide) as base, with a netting behind it to place the armor in along with adjusters for the inner netting housing. This would be complemented with a light, perforated aluminum sheet (useful more as a slider, minimum friction), stitched on top of the leather base. The Velcro would be attached to the leather. The problem I'm facing is lack of time and finding an expert leather handler/tailor (Maybe a shoe maker could help). The cost would be at least another 2.5 or 3 K Rs. It would be sweaty and hot but the custom, tweek-able and secure fit that is very essential in standalone knee guards may be ensured.

But lazy me dreams, plans and then sleeps and forgets. So I guess if I do go ahead with the project, it'll definitely take time. I might just buy the riding pants and wear it all the time. It's the best way to keep armor in place. This will have good protection for hips and lower back also. I am yet to get the rest of the armor, right now I exhausted my budget on basic stuff.

Please do keep us updated if you decide to improvise. Cheers to your effort and ingenuity!

                  The idea is interesting,

The logic is correct but your solution is equally bad.

let me know how long a banyan (vest) hosiery fabric will last while being dragged on asphalt.
The cordura will offer some abrasion resistance but the stitching on the banyan will fail, the knee guard will escape out of its place in few milliseconds and the knee will start scraping.

Mindless application of Jugaad will not solve the problem. This may help bicyclists but not motorbikes.

This jugaad will only be helpful if you fall down on a stationery motor bike. nothing else.
Why ride fully covered in Riding gear on a hot Summer ? Because road rash from hot asphalt hurts more than sweat

I'm looking for a knee guard which can be worn inside pants that doesn't hinder the ability to grip onto the tanks. Came to know about this thread and guess this idea of yours might work for me.

The SAS-TEC SC -1 / 02 is not on stock with outdoortravelgear.com but the SAS-TEC SC - 1 /01 is. What is the difference between these two? I guess dimension is the only difference, SC -1 / 02 is a longer than SC - 1/ 01. If dimension is the only difference still I'd better go for the SC - 1 / 02. Cause for a little extra cost I might get a bigger knee guard, however small the increase in size may.

Yet, SAS-TEC SC - 1 / 02 is on stock with solaceint.in but I'm skeptical of this site and the product's authenticity.
