I have just done 560kms on my Discover 150 which is 2 weeks old and got a mileage of 70kmpl. Clocked 560kms exactly and had to switch the fuel tap to reserve and it took in 8ltrs. I do 70kms everyday- office and back.

Thats excellent mileage. Congrats on the bike. I think you are following the run in instructions vigorously. Have you completed first service?

but the problem is that, even at the lowest setting, the low beam cut-off is still a bit higher than normal. I'll have to adjust it by removing the H/L assembly, may have to take it to the welder.
Unfortunately the bike is with my uncle right now. I will do this mod only in May.

I need a bike mainly for highway Commuting (60-70 Kms/day). I wanted to ask you guys about the highway stability of the D150. is the bike stable enough on highways, (riding anywhere between 60-70 kmph)? anyone feels its too light to be used on a highway, vibrates, or isnt stable enough?
Please advise.

Hi All,

I have been a member since a long time but never quite participated in any discussions till date and quite frankly did not muster enough interest but I guess it is never too late to start.

I am a PhD research scholar based in Pune. My father owned a Bullet 350cc which he modified to a 12 volt system and attached a windshield. The very pictures of this bike have instilled in me, the interest to bike around. However, I cannot afford a high end machine and hence possess a Discover 150cc DTSi.

It will complete a year in November and it has already completed ~11500 kms. Most of the distance has been covered on highway. I have biked from Pune to Navi Mumbai 35+ times or so in all possible weather conditions including winter, summer and especially rainy! I have taken this bike on a tortuous ride from Pune to Mahabaleshwar as well which also included trips to Panchgani and Pratap Gad. I've also driven from Pune to Aurangabad.

My first trip to Mumbai and the trip to Aurangabad was done at a crazy top speed of 45 and 55 since the bike was in a run-in period. A crazy experience indeed!

With all this biking experience, I can vouch for Discover 150cc to be a very reliable machine. It has a balance of decent power and good fuel economy of about 58 kmpl on highways (driven at about 70-80 kmph). When driven conservatively with a constant speed of 55 kmph, it can deliver a 68-70 kmpl.

But the Discover can be very hard on the lower thighs because I don't think the bike was designed for long highway rides. But with proper stretches, occasional breaks and habit, the bike is enjoyable.

The bike just weighs 121 kgs and further has a decently broad wheelbase. If I compare this with Discover 135 (brother's) and Pulsar 150cc (cousin's) I believe this combination gives way for very fast turns as tried out at Lonavala ghat and Mahabaleshwar Ghat that can be executed with ease.

A prime turn off is the overall fuel tank capacity. It's relatively low and though I have not been on a very very long ride, this does mean that you have to refuel quite often. But nothing too serious.

The light weight of the bike and its fuel economy also makes it quite ideal for city driving too. This ability of the bike to serve well both on the economic front, its ease of use in both cities and on highways was precisely what I wanted from the bike and I'd say that it has given me all I wanted from the bike.

Sir i suggest you to use Castrol Power-1 oil for your engine. Though it costs you a bit more Rs300-350 . It lasts longer and cooling of engine is faster. I use it in my bike.

Yes, the bike is very good to ride at around 60kmph, the vibrations kick in only once you cross that 70ish mark.

I too was thinking for going for Discover150 but after testride of SZ, I find Yamaha SZ has better pickup, smooth gear shifts and absolutely no vibrations and excellent ride comfort on highway,due to lower rpm toqrue I can move my bike even in 2nd or 3rd gear after complete stop! Even maintenance cost and availability of spares is great. But the only negative is poor mileage.

If your plan is to have good allround bike with mileage, pickup, and top speed. Go for the Pulsar135 or the SZ if you dont mind less mileage but surely not Discover, it rattles like snake at 80kmph on highway, and sways due to light weight, also 8lt tank is little less for highway. Since Discover150 exactly doesnt gun anything for your highway ride. It returns poor throttle response and pickup. Spares are dirt cheap but dont last long and you might need to do frequent trip to the mechanic more often than you think.

Today morning, I turned on the ignition, no Neutral light. Kick started the bike, it started up. All exectricals had stopped working. Only Speedo was working. Have given it to Service center. Hopefully will get it in evening.

Got the bike back yesterday evening, all good now.

Could somebody mention the seat height of Discover 150 DTSI? I see different values at different sites. Personally I think the 800 mm value is correct as I feel it is taller than HH Glamour, saddle height of which is 790 mm. I could be wrong too, I feel the seats a little bit less tapered.

This bike has been discontinued by Bajaj and my brother is is facing problems sourcing spare parts. I feel rahul and rajiv bajaj should display some maturity. The company should stop coming out with new variants after every 6 months and then discontinue them after another 6 months. Customers have problems sourcing spareparts.
