fazer can touch speeds more than 80kph pretty easily.Originally posted by ashwinprakas View PostRegarding the Fazer as a touring bike is infact in appropriate. The reason being that the bike struggles to attain any speeds beyond 80Kmph and gives a backpain to tall riders when rising for long. Another thing to consider is that, though the bike has a longer base than the FZ, it is still unstable while hard braking and tight cornering, it may be due to the MRF Revz, but we've experienced numerous falls on the bike, and one of the time while doing a panic brake, at the same time with my ZMA, our Fazers wheels locked and were smoking, where as the ZMA's wheels still had good traction, the point to be noted here is that the ZMA is also running on stock MRF's. The Fazers stock tyres are also prone to getting punctures a lot.
Now coming to the benefits, its one mean street bike, the acceleration note after 6k gives any rider a scare when being overtaken by the FAZER, its torquier and revs quicker than my bike and works well under tightly packed traffic conditions. Returns a mileage of 43Kmpl when ridden sedately.
Anyways ride safe, and its about time an independent topic was started for Fazer.
on NICE road i rode my bike at costant 90-110(speedo) for like 200kms with a pillion.
fazer's riding position is comfy, but may not as good as zma/zmr.
fazer got longer base than fz?

fazer can corner better than zma/zmr any day
fazer/fz used in my knowledge soft/semi compound tyres and provides very good grip.
tyre locked up because the brakes are efficient dude, its all about the rider.
fazer is a touring bike. why not? it can do 70-90 all day. in india its more than enough. in that case any 150 bike is capable of touring. its not just the speed that makes a bike tourer friendly.Yamaha YZF-R15

Yamaha Fazer headlight problem.
I own a Yamha Fazer 2010,i am facing a problem of poor visibilty of headlights, while riding in nights.I have also change its mode of working from single headlight to double, but this also doesn't make the difference. So any ideas to change the one, without doing many alterration.

It is effectively really POOR, even with both headlight on!!!Originally posted by Krishant View PostI own a Yamha Fazer 2010,i am facing a problem of poor visibilty of headlights, while riding in nights.I have also change its mode of working from single headlight to double, but this also doesn't make the difference. So any ideas to change the one, without doing many alterration.
The only ways are to install higher power H4 bulbs, or (better?) to go for HID projectors.
I have chosen the second option, which is being installed presently: will let people know about the result....that I hope good considering the cost
of those projectors!!!!
SIDE NOTE: if this thread is here to stay, and not be moved to the general FZ16 ownership one, I would suggest that, like for this lights question, the posts keep concentrated on what is specific to the Fazer, compared to the FZ16 and FZ16-s.....which will be very little.
To write like somewhere above that the Fazer got longer wheelbase than FZ16 shows complete ignorance (as well as "while hard braking and tight cornering": sure way to end up sitting on the road
). So: stick to the very few real differences.

Fazer is 1.02 cm longer than FZ. But the wheel base, maximum power, torque, gear ratios, bore/stroke ratio, compression ratio, speed at a specific RPM, size of tyres etc. of both these bikes are the same.Originally posted by ashwinprakas View PostAnother thing to consider is that, though the bike has a longer base than the FZ, ...
At constant 90-110 kmh speed for 200 kms, that too on a Fazer with a pillion rider?Originally posted by christo View Poston NICE road i rode my bike at costant 90-110(speedo) for like 200kms with a pillion.Last edited by punarvasu; 08-09-2012, 04:15 PM.

Hail the Touring Spirit!!
Why not? This bike can easily cruise at that speed. I would suggest that 80-90 kmph shall be more comfortable for riding for more than 5-6 hours (lesser strain on engine, you see). But pillion comfort is a problem though. I see that Yamaha has addressed this prob in new Fazers with a broader pillion seat.Originally posted by punarvasu View PostAt constant 90-110 kmh speed for 200 kms, that too on a Fazer with a pillion rider?
I have reached a top speed of 124 kmph so far. But it took more time from 105 kmph to 124 kmph.
Nonetheless, this bike is an awesome touring spirit! Having a great time with it

Hello everyone
I have a 2010 ( May ) Fazer ( 1st gen - without kick starter ). As a previous poster said, only one light will be activated as stock when newly bought. But the company itself offers to bridge both the " eyes " during first service. So i got the lights done during the forst service ( cost was about 10 bucks for wire ). Actually both the halogens have low & high filaments but are not enabled in dual mode. After he bridging, both lamps light up, during low & high beam modes.
Although the halogens are 35/35 W, they suck a lot of battery juice. My battery ( exide was provided when i bought the bike ) has become weak after 2 1/2 years. I had to recharge it at a private battery service center, because Yamaha SC says that they only charge the battery for 2 hours when we give the bike for service. Battery still holds charge but on constant use, the charge goes down again. As i primarily use the bike at night with both lamps burning, i guess batery doesn't get enough charge time
Staying with headlights, the glow from the 35/35 is so poor
I do not want to go for HID yet, as my battery is already conking off trying to provide power for dual 35/35. Maybe i can go for those white light halogens ( is Osram's Nightbreaker such an option ? ) Does anyone have any suggestions for a white light halogen ? and wha wattage should we use ? can we use the 55/60 W we use in other bikes ? ( i use a 90 / 100 in my RX - coil winding has been done. if i use 55/60, the filaments fuse at 60+ kmph
)
What do you guys suggest for my battery problems ? Is it normal for the battery to become weak after only 2 + 1/2 years ? ( i hardly riode 10 kms a day these days & mostly at night. I do not ride the Fazer daily as i have a RX100. There is sulphation on the battery terminal ( + postive terminal ) )
So i have to jump start the bike sometimes - will this strain the clutch ? will this wear the clutch down ? Should i install a kick starter ? ( the newer models from 2012 have a kicker as standard )
also, coming to TPS. Does the 2010 model ( which i have ) have one ? cos my neighbour bought a FZ-S ( 2012 ) and it has 2 cables starting from the throttle ( 1 for throttle & other for TPS ). What is the use of TPS ? is it beneficial ? Can it be retrofitted in my old model bike ? does it use the same carb or a different one ?
If i go for a aftermarket CDI, like the RC CDI, is having TPS better or is it better without ?
The latest versions of the FZ series have lower chain guard - can we fit this directly or does it need some brackets ?
Can we directly fix the new wider seat ( for newer versions ) on our old models ? or is it better to go to a bike upholstery shop and just add extra 1 inch cushion + a seat cover ? - one post about the hardness of the seat is true. Pillions complain & women find it uncomfy and thin too
Are the newer grab handles better than the old tubular steel ones in old models ? Can the new ones directly replace the old ones ?
Is the new rear fender ( supposed to be bigger but ugly ) better than the old one ? ( When i bought the bike, the dealer gave me a add on mud flap for the rear fender - they said it was mandatorily supplied by Yamaha )
Well, my bike used to return about 45 kmpl initially. Then suddenly, it dipped to 30 kmpl or less. But after frequent tune ups at ASC, it now gives 40 kmpl +, sometimes 45 +.
The top speed i have doen is a relaxed 111 kmph on half throttle - didn't try further.
I used to use System 2/3 or System G ( from Iftex ) and i used to a positive difference in the engine behaviour but nowadays, i cannot seem to get it in my city.
Bike has done 8250 kms in 2 yrs & 8 months. Thinking fo switching to NGK IX iridium spark plug. Then maybe get the direct stock replacement air filter ( no universal filetr stuff - this fits inside the airbox ) from either K& N ( 2690/- M.R.P ) or from Simota ( 2200/- M.R.P ). Even later, maybe try a FFE from RC - i might pass the FFE
Well, sorry for the long post but i need answers to my questions please and i'm so happy that i found exclusive thread
Thank You

Re: Yamaha Fazer
Try osram nightbreaker or Philips extremevision, both will improve the lightning a bit. Need a lot better light? Then fit HID.Originally posted by 4htn4v3r View PostHello everyone

Stock battery needs regular top up as it's not a MF battery. Most stock fz battery goes bad after 1- years. Try maintains free battery, costs 1200 something.
All fz has a tps, including yours.
Iridium plugs are waste, better go for ngk gpower costs 200+
Adding extra foam on current seat is better plus change the seat cover too. I guess the seat cover materia is available from.Yamaha svc.
For lower chain guard, you need to add brackets to the swingarm.
for better replies please post your queries in fz/fz-s thread
everybody is there
