Re: Yamaha Fazer

Hi Friends,

I planned to purchase Yamaha fzs but I am much attracted with the front view of Fazer. From the Yamaha website and showrooms I got the information as the engine specifications and tuning is same for both fzs and fazer so both will provide the same mileage. But I am hearing from my friends who bought it around 3 years back that Fazer gives around 5kmpl less mileage than FZS. Is it true? Is it due to any of these reasons or anything else?
1. Additional weight at front along with the aerodynamic design at front?
2. Is it something like when FZ, FZS and Fazer were launched initially they had different engine tuning like high low end power i.e higher pickup etc.so the mileage was affected. due to which my friend may be getting less mileage. Not sure of this one.

Help me in getting the information on mielage difference b/w FZS and Fazer along with some suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Yamaha Fazer

I recently bought a used fazer on last week. Previous owner converted it into fzs, i am keen on converting it into fazer.
while converting it into fzs, previous owner cut down one clamps on frame (exactly on the area where the chassis number is printed).
he also given the headlight and fairing parts of fazer to me, can somebody post the pics of assembling procedure of fazer headlight and fairing.

It looks like it. Earlier models seem to be giving less mileage than newer batches.
My 2011 fz has never given more than 35km/L and normally ranges between 30-35km/L, but owners are now claiming upto 45-50km/L.

Between fzs and fazer, mileage would be more or less. Take 2-3km/L less than fzs due to extra weight of fairing. But it would help in better highway riding.

Ride safe and have fun.

Actually fazer is just 6kg more than fzs. Does it really affect the mileage, if so The first thing comes to my mind is does the weight of rider has the affect on mileage...? Also, are there any other disadvantages of fazer over fzs...?

Fazer costs a whopping 90+k, and r15 just 1.25L,

Today discussed with the showroom guys... Came to know that the carburator used in initially released fazer model is different from the current one... And so is the difference in mileage...

Yamaha servicing issues

Hi,

I own a Yamaha Fazer 153cc. I would like to get fellow Xbhp-ians experiences on unfair charges incurred during the servicing of motorcycles at A.S.S

During recent service of my Fazer at a yamaha service center, I was billed 70 rupees for Battery charging under labor charges. I checked with the service adviser and he said it's the labor charges for charging the battery. When I refused to buy his argument and proceeded to check the Yamaha prescribed labor charge chart, he said it won't be there in the chart. Immediately I went to the service manager and explained him that I never had to pay a separate labor charge for charging the battery, he came up with some new explanation saying it's for the electrolyte. Then it should have been under the consumables (which is already 60 rupees). I had to show my displeasure and said I'll take up the issue with Yamaha customer care. He readily agreed.

Yamaha customer care responded in a day saying it's a company policy. I then asked the same question to show me that charge in the chart. Then I was put on hold and was later informed that my case will be escalated and someone would get in touch with me. I've been contacted by the service center and they want me to be there for a discussion with their division manager.

Let me know if anyone has experienced such unfair practices before.

Approved and merged!

Though it seems unfair to the customer, but the dealership can make any story to back their claims.

Maybe, it is something similar that Yamaha/other dealerships practice to make money. As a customer, you can't do much even if its a wrong practice (at least in today's date).

To improve fuel efficiency what yamaha has done is that they have brought down the torque of the bike slightly and hence slight better mileage.

Is your bike under free service period? If not, the SVC will charge for charging the battery. If the bike is under warranty, get the battery replaced under warranty. I was charged Rs. 60 for the same few services back. My bike is not under free service period.

Cheerz!!

devils_friend: I'd like to correct you that the battery won't be covered under entire warranty of vehicle. It's just for an year. Regardless or free/paid service, battery checkup and charging is part of the general checkup.

Well, that's how they take the customers for a ride. Battery checkup/charging comes under the general checkup of vehicle. It's not such a labor intensive task to levy 70 rupees for charging a battery. The mechanic just needs to remove the battery, clean it and fill it with water and apply petroleum jelly at the terminals. If required, they'll connect the battery to the charging setup. They can add the charges for consumables like distilled water/electrolyte but not for performing this regular maintenance task.

If your vehicle is attended for some reasons that doesn't come under general checkup, then they can charge labor for it. Not for general check up. I had been at the Yamaha service again yesterday after Yamaha customer care opened a ticket for my issue and the service manager requested me to come over. I proved them that the service manual has battery check up as a general check point and it's labor is part of the 450 rupees general checkup charges. He called some regional head and confirmed the same. They waived off that charges and corrected their misunderstanding. Also, the labor chart shows 25 rupees as the labor for replacing a battery. So, obviously 70 rupees is too much.

Service manager quoted me that all other bike services also take this charge for charging battery. I then had to say they don't take 450 as general checkup labor. He later agreed to that too.

PS: All that's required is enough free time, perseverance and valid reason.

Good work brother. But, i could not find "battery check up as general check up" mentioned in owners manual. Can you please share the pic of same. Also, there are many things that are suppose to be done on routine basis during servicing, the SVC guys are reluctant to do the same.

You should find it as the 2nd point under "General maintenance and lubrication chart" of "periodic maintenance and adjustment" in your owner's manual.

Reluctance to question the service center will result in their reluctance to perform a proper work on the vehicle.

Urgent: Karol bagh shop for fazer front body kit

Hi folks. I met with an accident sometime back and the front dome of the fazer got damaged along with the headlight support. Can anyone tell me which would be a good place in Karol Bagh to get the same replaced? Yamaha is quoting around 10k+ service. Hence, plan to get the thing slightly modified as well from Jarol Bagh rather than getting the stock look again from Yamaha. Thank you,
