Bad Luck or Expected!
Bad Luck or Expected!
Last Month 23rd i got my New Honda Shine delivered from Anand Honda Showroom, Bangalore!
First two weeks i was enjoying shine ride ... on third week i got to hear wired sound from engine.

I was in mess

on end of 4th week i took it to Anand Honda Service Center!
Badluck Begins!!!
Intially i told him about the engine sound! he convinced me saying its a minor problem and told that i can collect my bike tomorrow.
Next...day
Before visiting to Service center i gave a call and it transffered to supervisior. he gave me a shocking news saying...there is some problem with engine head bearing...i was shocked to hear that!!!
**** new engine! only 23 days of ride covered only 423KM and never crossed 45kmph above!!!

He told not to worry and its under warrenty i will replace it within two days!
After two days i visited again to Ananda Honda Service Center, one more shocking news was waiting for Me,
This time he told! " we have replaced Engine Head bearing but noise not yet reduced
...he told there is problem with Engine shaft , which is causing this noise, we need to replace engine shaft.

I was totally pissed off!!!!
Again he repeated the same dailogue, don't worry its under warrenty, we will replace it but it takes nearly 3-4 days , coz we need to remove engine and refix it!
Today i got my bike( After 9 days ), no sound from Engine!
But my worry is the problem really fixed????
Please help me guys, if Engine is opened does it reduces performance???
What actually happened to my bike????

I have heard this happening before even in other bikes, sometimes these happen and which is why u have warranty, I suggest u buy a extended warranty cover and also keep a watch out on any other problem that may crop. Even if engine is removed if an expert handles it while glueing it back then its better than a factory finish. Remember to Ride slow for next 1k km. If still not convinced u can get a written letter from svc saying your bike had these issues and further any engine trouble which arises due to this is companies liability and you must be getting it fixed free of cost.

Suggest them you need a replacement of bike. Also put a mail to the Honda Customer Care Service. Keep all those mails & replies as proof which might help you in future if you want to screw them legally.Originally posted by siddu123 View Postprajnyan

AFAIK, you may not get a full bike replacement, but you may eligible for full engine replacement....which is as good as bike replacement, do mail the customer care and higher authority of Honda.Originally posted by siddu123 View Postprajnyan

Yes. Contact honda2wheelers and pass the details of problem. Tell them if it doesn't work you will go to consumer court. But instead of court you better let the company official's take it to their hands. It may take weeks but they will completely fix it and run tests.

Idle Engine RPM
Hello experts,
I've a Honda Shine. Its about 1 year and i've done the last servicing. Some RPM tuning has been done by S/C guys. I felt the idle engine rpm has been increased and after ride when the engine heats up its roaring abnormally when idle, i called those guys and they told me it has been set to the Honda recommended rpm 1450 +/- 100. I don't feel any performance increment. So, my question is (1) what should be the normal rpm of a 125cc bike or so, (2) if the rpm decreased to 1300 or so is it cause any problem? (3) previously i used 10w40 engine oil instead of 10w30 and i noticed even after a long ride engine was quite cool, but those guy changed the oil to 10w30 as saying that 10w40 is not recommended, now i feel engine produced more heat. what should i do now? switch to 10w40 again?

Re: Idle Engine RPM
There is no specific idling rpm. Keep it low, you can probably reduce it to 1200 on a warm engine. Experiment around, no harm possible.Originally posted by Subhodip View PostHello experts,

For the heat we face here in India, 10W40 would be a better bet. Use that. Thicker and all that.Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!
Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

Re: Idle Engine RPM
Thanks for your reply, do i need anything more? i mean any adjustment with A/F ratio along with the RPM adjustment or simply the RPM adjustment do the job!

Shine is a commuter bike, its ok for city riding. But yes it is not suitable for highway whenever u try to go beyond 60/65 it starts vibrates and it should be equipped with 5th gear. Otherwise this bike is quite satisfactory in its segment.

Re: Honda Shine
Engine sound in Honda shine.
I am hearing this for the third time.
Her in bhubaneswar i had heard two cases of same and the workshop were making a fool of customer. When i got to know it through my friend upon listening it came out to be crank sound.
So engine sound can be of the crankshaft.
And Honda shine is and never was a highway bike. It was made keeping in mind the city traffic and thus is comfortable at 50-60 kph and beyond that it feels strained.
New Honda shine doesn't only get a tubeless tyre but the front and rear tyre has been changed to 80/100-18.Photo of my joy- http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/854067-post963.html-3.88 lac km cont....Ownership review of my joy- http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/832255-post608.html- slowly updating as and when getting time. As far as I know crankshaft only makes noise when a bearing fails or the con rod develops play, which should not occur in new bikes IMHO. I'd be glad if you shed some light on the crankshaft sound thing.
kabir848 could you post what sound your bike was making, in order to help us identify your problem. From the way you described the sound (tick tick), it may be the tappet sound, but after hearing it only, we can come to conclusion.I am back!

Re: Honda Shine
Yes you are right about crankshaft making noise when a bearing fails or con rod developing play. But the main thing is that now-a-days manufacturers especially Honda have developed a new liking for increasing mileage by decreasing the friction and also to smoothen the engine. What they do is use Low tension rings, more clearance between bore and piston skirt, more clearance in big end bearing clearance. So what happens that modern day engines runs on fine balance between clearance and worn out clearance. If for some reason the assembled crank or bore do not falls in tolerance zone and both spares differ in tolerance then problem starts.New bikes from factory i have seen them smoking and also having piston slap sound. In this age of high number of production with more machines in use nothing can be said. Gone are the days when bikes were built slowly and by workers having time as a result they can check the components they are going to fit.Originally posted by Cleaner View PostSibun,As far as I know crankshaft only makes noise when a bearing fails or the con rod develops play, which should not occur in new bikes IMHO. Re: Honda Shine
I need some help. My cousin owns a shine 2012 model. It has clocked 11,000 kms in the odo. He forgot to lubricate the drive chain for a long time. As a result of that, today he braked hard in the road due to a careless pedestrian. When he tried to ride again, the bike didnt move. So he pushed the bike for more than 2 kms and returned home. Then he called me and we both checked for faults. The fault was, the chain was cut. When i touched it, it was very dry.Originally posted by sibun View PostYes you are right about crankshaft making noise when a bearing fails or con rod developing play. Tomorrow we have planned to fix it. Is it advisable to use that broken chain again? Or should we replace it with diamond or rolon chain? If yes, how should we ask the retailer for that particular chain?
P.S He also loves his bike very much like me. He's taking a leave to college tomorrow to fix this chain problem.
