Re: Mahindra Centuro

Bike has run 240kms till now (mostly by my nephew).

Feedback:
1. Tappet noise is irritating / the engine is on a noisier side compared to a discover engine sound. Haven't gone beyond 50km speeds yet. I mostly ride in 20-30s and my nephew usually pushes it to 30-40s range. Shifting from 1 to 2 is hard & makes a noise. Hope it will settle in coming weeks. Longest continuous riding was for like 25kms till now. I shift in the wrong direction because of my earlier experience. Difficult to ride a new bike in stop & go traffic
2. Creaking sound from rear suspension was fixed promptly by the workshop guys by sending their guy over to pick up & return -- cheers to their service; Front suspension too makes some noise. Will get it fixed next time.
3. Put 100rs petrol (1.28L) and it ran from 135km to 215km (reserve to reserve) = that makes it ~60kmpl FE. Anyways, too early to comment on this point
4. DTE is confusing. Surely, It doesnt get turn off if we put 1.3 litres of fuel when in reserve. Will wait for a few more iterations of fueling to understand its mind. Never the less, a helpful indicator.
5. Rode it in rain / slush & it is all messy. Should buy a water sprayer to wash off the dirt/grime (too lazy to use a cloth / bucket approach - also spraying pressurised water wd be better - avoiding scratches).
6. Good road grip/balance. Runs well even at higher gears@low speeds (stalls when pushed to the extreme like 3rd gear & single digit speeds). Horn is loud but not harsh.
7. foot rest touches my leg when stopped at traffic light. Not sure if others face this problem. When you put down your feet to balance/stop, the pant gets struck to the foot rest and it is irritating

Continuing with my helmet story - Posted my query on the other helmets thread too. Have measured my head today and the circumference is >62cm (62.5 and 63cm across 2 tapes). Looks like I have a huuuge skull. Will try to go n check out again hopefully today, if it doesn't rain. Else will just get a simple crown helmet.

Concern/Query: Checked the engine oil out of curiosity. Took out a drop & it was clean & clear - almost like fresh / unused oil. I do not recollect seeing such clean oil in my old bike, scooter, car during the oil change. Is it because it has just run for 250kms yet? OR should I be worried??

Ask them to adjust during first service, till then don't worry just ride.

Try to ride this bike by gradually opening and closing the throttle. It will improve your mileage.

It is the same for me also.

Don't lug the engine, select proper gear according to speed.

For me the kicker giving this problem.

is castrol (Owners manual refers castrol activ 20w40 ) or Motul etc are good
bike is already very smooth in low REV's also want to maintain it like a new bike

vamshi - Congrats on your new bike. I have not bothered to think too much about which oil to use. The bike was smooth when delivered & hence I would expect them to fill the same oil during service & I am satisfied. I vaguely remember them telling of some top-up with some 3M additive for smooth performance. I will check this further when I give my bike for 1st service next week.

Update on my bike:

Bike is going OK at the moment. Have run it for 600kms till date. Was hoping to take it for the 1st service today, but could not. May be I will do it on next Friday/Saturday. Have been sticking to <4500 rpm. Have pushed it a few times to 5K briefly and one or two times to 6K. Will rev it to higher levels few more times before giving it for service. FE seem to remain decent (not measured as I put 500rs worth fuel few weeks back at around 350km mark & it is still continuing). No other niggles/nagging issues other than the ones I listed before.

BTW, got a Vega Dominator helmet finally which suits my big head. It fits snug & is OK at the moment. Still not very comfortable, but I hope the padding will compress & fit around my face correctly and it will be OK going further. Bought a cycle lock (with number lock mechanism) to lock the helmet at parking instead of the clamp like thing.

Re: Mahindra Centuro

Was any engine oil additive used (like 80-90ml) during the oil change by the service center guys? I recollect the guy saying, they add some 3M oil additive which helps keep the engine running smoother. I do not want to add anything extra which is not prescribed by the manufacturer. Also, these additives are waste of money is my opinion.

The manual does not say anything regarding this & hence wanted to know if you have any experience with this 3M additive? and how much does it cost?

Re: Mahindra Centuro

1st service bill was Rs. 491/-. Oil was around 270rs, some 3M engine plus additive (100ml) was 140rs, some chain lube or tightening was charged at 50rs and some one more work for 30rs if I remember the break-up.

I was initially happy that it was <500, less than the scooter service charges (and much much less than my car), but now realise that it was a free service and should not be soo high for a puny bike!.

Wondering how much did you all pay for your 1st service?

back for the 2nd service update - they replaced the camshaft as part of tappet noise story. Looks like they are doing it for all the bikes free of cost. I the engine seems silent & smooth (coz of engine oil change?) after the service. Bill was 400Rs again this time with no engine oil additives.

Mine first service bill was 560₹, which included Motul engine oil and a oil filter only.
Second service bill was ₹0.
Third service bill is again 560₹.
Ps I own a 200NS.

Sent my bike for the same as the bike was developing excess noise.

Bike received and felt very smooth after the parts change(camshaft, Timing chain tensioner, CDI etc.).

Re: Mahindra Centuro

Checked the FE a couple of times for my bike after the 2nd service (included oil change & camshaft replacement) - Getting 61-62 kmpl when ridden at around 45-50kmph more than 50% of the time, else its in 10-30kmph with shifting gears in traffic - difficult to keep it below 40 all the time and with occasional bursts above 50. The engine gets really stressed when it nears 60kmph. I have not pushed it beyond 60 since it feels like the engine will fall apart according to me & hence I am not trying it either. At the service centre, I met a guy who claimed that he is getting 75kmpl and he is usually riding his bike in 30s and never exceeding 40kmph ever ( in his village).

The sweet spot for riding my bike is in the 3.5K - 4.5K RPM range in the 4th gear - around 40-50kmph speeds where it feels stress free & with minimal throttle. I think this is the band in which it will deliver the best FE.

So, its like getting ~400kms for 500rs of petrol at the moment. The bike has run 3.5k km till now. The FE increased after the 2nd service from 50+ to 60+. Not sure if they did some changes in the settings OR this is the behavior of the engine itself. Dreaming of hitting 70+ after the 3rd service now

PS: any specific carb settings for better FE? Will be great to share it here

I have completed 5400 on my bike its 3 services have been done getting FE of 72 kmpl 80% city riding 20%highway speed in city is average 35kmph
and on highways is 55 to 60 kmph and yes i do feel bike gets stressed post 60 but i am more than satisfied with the bike's performance
LED's and Key get a lot attention once a AUDI owner said your bike's LED's are giving my car a complex
