1 . I dont have insurance with the agency linked with the SVC. The SVC guys gave insurance with Liberty general and they didnt have renewal option for own damage after 1 year , so i went ahead with Tata AIG couple of days back.

2. Yes will do. Forks were fine at first look.

3. I m thinking of getting the RSA after this todays issue. Its an official KTM SVC.

4. Any idea why tires are not covered as they are too part of the bike and not some cosmetic accessory to the bike.

Ya, thank god i didnt fall as the SVC guys asked me that did u drop the bike as they were also surprised on the rear tire side wall getting blasted like that.



And Are you sure they wont do the replacement of the rear tire?
if no, then it beats the whole purpose of claiming insurance as the rear tire is the most costly of the total approx 10000 which the SVC guys told.

How much do making the rims proper cost, any idea?

Also I believe they will not replace the rims and just mend which he told will cost 600 rs separate as they have to take the bike to somewhere else.
I am not sure about this taking the bike to a seperate place to straighten the rims thingy.

Get your brake pads removed. Get the innards of the calipers cleaned using brake spray and make sure you use emery paper and glaze the pads well. Rebleed if necessary, you never know they changed the fluids or not. These things can be done at a trusted local mechanic.

Claim insurance. It will be easily 10k as the rim alone will cost you 5k plus, secondly the tire an additional 5 to 6k. If you've used nil depreciation, almost the entire value of the damage will be covered. Secondly, if you're under motorcycle warranty, you cannot ask for parts replacement, as it's deemed "accident" and any thing from their side won't be entertained, unless some miracle happens and they help you, but it's worth the try. Thirdly, do inspect your rear rim too, as there can be minute bends or cracks. If you find any, replace it along with your front rim.

Lastly, don't worry too much about the bike. You're okay, safe and sound that's all that matters. Get the insurance formalities started, and it's better the bike in SVC than elsewhere, so that it's easy for the agent to inspect, if need be. The showroom guys will initiate insurance recovery once they prepare a quotation and send it to the insurance.

A similar thing happened with me sometime in September last year.

The only thing different in my case was a bulge in the rear tyre prior to the incident which had a parallel conversation running with the Metzler guys. On your points -

1. Everything should be smooth if the SVC has a good relationship with the agency. Generally it goes through without any pain if your insurance agency and the SVC preferred agency are the same.

2. If you were on low speed then there won't be any damage to the forks or any other parts. You can still ask the SVC guys to check it for you

3. Till the time it's at an official SVC then there won't be any issue. I had RSA which did help me without having to worry about transporting it to the SVC

5. I am not sure if they will cover the tyres under insurance. In my case they flat out refused to acknowledge any issues to the tyre whatsoever in the first glance but then I showed them the official conversation with the KTM regional office guys.

Hi All,

So this happened today morning. I have 2018 Duke 390.
I was the latest victim of the dreaded potholes of Bangalore. My front wheel rim and rear tire are gone. This happened when I tried to avoid a slow moving bike, and I ended up near the end of the road and ended up with both my wheels in the pothole which was huge I guess from the looks of the damages incurred.

The rear wheel side wall got ruptured with a loud bang and lost all the ear in seconds and the front rim is badly bent. Luckily i was able to keep balance on the bike and didn't fall on the road.

I took the bike to the nearest SVC and they claimed approximately 10k for the front rim and the rear tire for now. More detailed analysis will be underway.
I had just renewed by insurance couple of days back so I m safe i guess but not sure.

There are N number of questions in my hand and first of all i was not able to believe that this happened to me as well

My bike has done 12500 kms and I was very careful all the time but still I guess sometimes things are not under your control


Please bear with me as I have a lot of questions in my hand.

1. I have raised insurance but don't know what all antics and nakras the insurance surveyor is going to show up and how much claim I am going to get out of this whole ordeal. Any pointers to make this easier and smooth.

2. from the looks of it only the front rim and rear tire seems to be gone. What all other parts of the bike should i take a look at.
Front forks seem to be fine and the rear shock absorber too though I am not sure.

3. Is it safe to leave the bike at the SVC for so long. ? I didnt have an option to take it to my regular SVC as I didnt have RSA.
After this thing i feel that RSA is a must, as i was lucky that the KTM service centre was within 2 kms of this accident.

4. Any other things which I should look into which I may have forgotten as I m still in shock and in state of disbelief.

5 Should I force the SVC to replace both the rims and tires under insurance?

Please provide your inputs asap as the surveyor will be coming today itself.

Brake pads haven't been changed so far. At the last service the guys didn't mention anything about it. Fluids were changed in the last service which was in December'19.

Total Odometer reading = 8500 kms

Any Duke 390 owners from Delhi-NCR?

I am facing SVC issues with the one in Gurgaon. Last 2-3 trips to the SVC have completely shattered my hope of any positive help/support from the guys there. Would love to try others even if it is a short ride out of the city. Any recommendations?

Also, since my last service I have been facing issues with front brakes and mileage. Braking seems to be lagging and there is a sharp noise coming out of the brakes while applying the levers. Riding style is the same as before but the fuel efficiency has been dropping to 19kmpl every now and then? What could be the issue?

You could choose to connect the charger, but when you do, do not rely on the integrated switch. Mine failed within a day, forcing me to install an external switch mounted on the handlebar.

I think 10000 is for one year + 5 year 3rd coverage.

This was the IDV mentioned in my insurance copy for my bike .231,883.00

I think IDV value of around 200000 should be good enough i guess.

IDV is calculated with respect to Ex-showroom price, below is the table used for IDV calculation.


I don't know what was the Ex-showroom price of your bike back in Nov 2018.
But you can look for approximate value of IDV = (EX-showroom price in Nov 2018 x 0.8) for current 1st year renewal.

You can get insurance done from digit insurance, it's a relatively new company but the reviews are very good on various forums and the price is relatively low as well. Call the customer care number directly and ask for new user discounts as well, i got discounts in my case.
My insurance agent quoted me 13000 for digit insurance and i got the same deal from the customer care for 10000₹

Hi Guys,

Please let me know the best insurance for Duke 390. I had the insurance from Liberty general and now they dont do renewal of insurance. When I checked policy bazaar, i got best quotes from royal sundaram, for IDV of 2,08,695 ..dont know how they are..

next i got quote from Oriental insurance for a quote of 1,51,311 which is low i think.. Please comment.

My bike was purchased in November 2018 and now its insurance has to be renewed for the 1 year own damage.
As the 5 years 3rd party insurance is there for 5 years, so no need to worry on that front.

Any preferences for whom to take insurance or it doesn't matter from whom you take.
My old bike had insurance from ICICI Lombard which was good.

Also one more doubt, I should go for the maximum IDV value while renewal?

Hey guys,
Need a bit of clarity on the audio bluetooth settings in the Duke 390. Does it only work with Google Play Music(Android phone- Oneplus) with the play/pause/next or can it also work with other apps like Youtube or Gaana? Because I haven't been able to make it work with the third party apps. Or am I missing something?
