I am "suspecting" your clutch plates might be slipping, or you're using the wrong grade of oil, meant for petrol cars, which would cause clutch slippage at high RPM. How much has your bike run?Originally posted by abhiiceman View PostBike is acting weird, if I go near 7rpm it suddenly revs to redline some times it acts as the clutch is disengaged and sometimes @7rpm it pulls like anything as like I'm ripping it.
I.e sometimes it feels like clutch issue when it acts like clutch is disengaged and the other time it's like issue with ride by wire.
The above thing happens 70% of the time I reach 7rpm
Cheers!

Yes you can install a dual horn on the Duke. Most fix their horns at the crash guard mount or make a small custom mount. And yes, when using two horns it's advised to use it with a relay.Originally posted by abhichotu.abhi View PostHas anybody got a dual horn setup on their Duke? the stock tires on the ktm isn't suited for slushy, wet muddy roads.. you will have loads of wheelspin simply due to the fact that the tire isn't built for such conditions. you will need to change the tires to something like the timsun 712 or similar if you frequently take on slush, wet muddy roads. even the michelin psr wont cut it in such situations, been there experienced that along with others on similar type tires on different bikes.Originally posted by ordinaryme View PostThanks guys for all the explanation and advice.
Will need to practice more in the lower hills before deciding to go any place higher.
Also wanted to share that in one particular muddy spot, the KTM got stuck. Tried a few times with revving, braking and manoeuvering the bike; but still needed a push from one of the 'RE'
guys.
It is one of the reasons why I thought of sharing and asking you guys, because had I've been alone, it would have been tough..which made me wonder if I should stick to the plains, and leave the higher mountain roads for the time being
the stock tires are good on tarmac both in wet n dry conditions, and to an extent on dry bad roads.

Nice trick.. will remember that.Originally posted by abhiiceman View PostWhen you are in such situation try not to spin the wheels and put both you foot on the ground and stand such that your weight won't be on the bike and a gentle throttle can get you out in most situation.

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Ownership Reviews and Experiences
Normal in Duke as it's light at the rear, shorter wheelbase and that huge torque. All this make a very agile bike but takes a toll on stability. Learn engine breaking it'll be a big boon during down hill. With engine breaking even though if you manage to fish tail for a second still bike will be under control.Originally posted by ordinaryme View PostHi Guys,
I just wanted to share my experience on the hills on my Duke 390 which I got in Jan'19. So my friends and I decided to go to Fagu in the independence day extended weekend( did not expect the unusual rains in HP at all!)
I found that the Duke skid a lot in the muddy roads and also while de accelarating. The other guys in their REs didn't sweat that much as the Duke and I did.
So, I was wondering, since then, to ask you guys- Could it be because of the Metzeler tyres which work better in city roads? Or could it be because its not that heavy as the REs, that it skid?
I had to drive at half clutch half break to cut down on the skidding. Is it how its supposed to be? How do I tackle this situation, assuming I take it at higher altitutes and more muddy terrains?
Thanks!
With Duke 390 you need to control the bike with throttle, if you engage the clutch completely and try to control with just breaks then engine braking wont work and bike won't be as stable as longer wheelbase bikes.

Re: KTM Duke 390 - Ownership Reviews and Experiences
The Duke will skid, on mild to loose gravel, and worse on surfaces that are wet especially metal bridges in and around malls and schools. As Imam advised, it's party due to the tire itself, and also due to the throttle input. Be extremely cautious when turning over metal pipe bridges, cobblestones and loose gravel, the bike can take you down very easily if you are too much liberal on the throttle. Throttle control is the key. Irrespective of Metz or MPSRs, it can and will skid, if torque is too much to handle for any tire at demanding situations. Hope it helps!Originally posted by ordinaryme View PostHi Guys,

Metz is round profile tyre which has less contact patch than the flat profile tyres and designed to provide excellent grip while cornering. It will skid a bit we have to be gentle on the throttle & brakes in the muddy roads.Originally posted by ordinaryme View PostHi Guys,

The best way to inspect a fluid reservoir is to only open it. If the window is full, it would appear as though the reservoir is empty, but's actually full. If it's empty you can see the innards of the reservoir very clearly. If you see an opaque background inside the window, it means the window is full, at least that way it's easy to spot. But, I'd always recommend in case of doubt, remove the reservoir cap and inspect. Since it's, very light in color, it means it's full.Originally posted by abhichotu.abhi View Post@B7ACKTHORN
I will visit the ktm SVC in coming days to sort out the issue. Meanwhile, can you confirm by moving your rear sprocket by hands (bike in neutral and on sidestand) if it moves or not? If it does not move then my case is confirmed. BTW, Already tried it on a Apache and a Pulsar their sprocket donot even move by a mm and mine moves by quiet a margin.
PS: I am finding it hard to detect oil level in front brake reservior since it is very light in color, or is there any procedure to follow to check it?
Such issues apart, the bike is a blast to ride, could not ride it alot due to my flu. Took for a short spin today and did a mistake of wearing shorts and sandals, at the end of the ride my whole body was sweating like a dog.
Secondly, the cush drive on some bikes will have very mild play and some bikes don't. The Duke 390 has very slight play in the cush rubber, if you hold the sprocket strong enough and wiggle it forward and backward, the sprocket will slightly move front and back, but not more than a few mm which is normal. If you have excessive play, like you can clearly turn the sprocket left and right by twisting it with least pressure, and have a significant play, then you have a bust cush drive rubber.
Cheers!
