Re: KTM RC 200 Owners Experience Thread
Did anyone try techspec snakeskin on the RC? I am looking for tank grips and read online that stomp grips are too aggressive and that they eat through the pants.
Keep the chain lubed. Let the engine warm up for upto 2 minutes before riding.Originally posted by Omkar Sakpal View PostAny type of monsoon care to be taken for our bikes?Never ride faster than your guardian angel can fly.

Re: KTM RC 200 Owners Experience Thread
29/6/16
Completed 1000 Kms and went for the first service.
Pre service :
Right side fairing started rattling. And there was vibration from 3-5k rpm.
Cost of service :
Oil + consumables =1384
Chain lube = 200
Teflon coating. =500
Total. = 2188
I told them not to do any coating on my bike.after the completion of the work I got a call from the service center and the guy told that the Bill is this much and they have done the coating 😠
Then I went there to take the bike. Eventhough the bike was looking good after the Teflon coating, I was not in good vibe. I ended up paying the bill.
Post service :
One thing that surprised me was that there was no vibration in thebike.and it got smoother and refined. Very happy with the service.Last edited by alen; 06-29-2016, 06:14 PM.

Re: KTM RC 200 Owners Experience Thread
Guys, today while on the way to office the warning sign glow came up. I just filled to the brim, what now? Read the message "Oil Pressure Low" (red alarm). Just two days before I checked the oil level, like mentioned in the Manual it was in the middle of Max and Min. I got worried, luckily I know there is a Motul dealer on the way. Without second thought got into sedated driving mode and reached the shop which was 1-2 kms away from the place the warning came up. I just needed a top-up so asked him the least quantity bottle. He simply smiled and said sorry sir, Motul haven't even released 500ML, so the least is 1 Ltr. I was expecting this as I know dealers used to return 500ML after the service and now they are getting 1.5 Ltr bottles.
I have no choice bought it for 780/- and topped up 100ML. I was not sure how much is low, but took the risk and topped-up with 100ML. The bottle has marking so it was easy know how much was poured. Funnel was not an easy find, so spilled a bit. Immediately the warning disappeared. I going for a service this weekend.
My last service was at 6000 KMs, now it's 9200 KMs, approximately I have ridden 3000+ KMs. But the service was done about 4 or 5 months back, how could the oil got reduced to this critical stage. There is no leakage anywhere, I hate leakages, I have seen so much on my RX. I religiously check for leakages on all my vehicles.
Does hard downshifting or high RPMs or long idle times or riding longer on lower gears (not redlining) be a cause? I don't do all the things mentioned regularly, but often. I sometimes feel as pushing the machine to it's limits.
Since oil level reading window cannot give an accurate reading, is there a way to have a regular check which is close to accurate? Also, I would like to know what I did to solve the issue is good or bad?

It must be due to overheating I guess.Long riding at higher rpm can lead to burning of oil. This has happened in my gixxer and I had to replace the cylinder piston due to burning of synthetic oil which I have refilled 4000kms back.
The best thing you can do is getting a break in between ride.
And never upgrade the stock exhaust .

Re: KTM RC 200 Owners Experience Thread
Actually it is supposed to be slightly lower than the upper mark say 60% above the center line. If the oil is below the center line of the glass after a hot ride, then we are looking for potential problems. Most of the times, it's slight oil consumption, considering the right quantity was installed in your prior service schedule, if not, then I would suggest a complete drain and reinstall of a fresh charge, considering there is a pending oil change.Originally posted by joe_marvy View PostGuys, today while on the way to office the warning sign glow came up. Re: KTM RC 200 Owners Experience Thread
Changing of exhaust can be done with also Change of airfilter. But after doing all this, the bike must be tuned accordingly, air to fuel ratio must be set according the figures on the dyno and according to the calculations, only if the tuning is not done, the tuning will be tooo rich or too lean. Akrapovic for a CBR 650f doesn't need tuning, as it runs normal on the stock tuning setup, only change of airfilter needs tuning in the case of this bike.Originally posted by alen View PostHey

Hi Alen, please don't quote the entire post. I stopped long rides because of personal reasons. My ride is for work commute and not taking him for rides. My one way is just 14 KMs, but in tight traffic (Bangalore). BTW I'm no fan of upgrading stock exhaust for a single cylinder😉.Originally posted by alen View PostHey

No VJ, I'm sure what is mentioned in manual and as s1d said, I had let it run to optimum temp and the let it cool then checked leaving the bike straight. It was in good level, but oil looked burnt (I saw that and smelled).Originally posted by B7ACKTHORN View PostActually it is supposed to be slightly lower than the upper mark say 60% above the center line. My question is how it can burn so much oil to give low pressure sign when it's just 3+ K with new oil (does the oil expire after days?).
But as you said the oil was below the center line when it was hot while pouring the top-up. Am I looking something big opening engine/bore? Do you think some thing is failing inside?
God I don't want SVC guys play around factory fixed things...
Guys, I'll better sell my bike and not let anyone (even trained personnel) to open the heart on a just 2 year old baby.

First get the bike to the svc and checked (using their diagnostic tool and clear the dtc's). It could have also been a false warning. Considering that these bikes are loaded with electronics(sensors), there is a chance of a false reading.
Normally 3000 km is too less of a mileage, especially on a bike with low mileage on the odo to find oil consumption (leaky valves or worn bore/rings are not common occurrence if maintained correctly) or oil wearing out (considering you run the 7100). I have seen folks who rip (100+ kmph) consistently on the highway and also folks like me who do spirited riding around in the city/traffic and there is almost nil oil consumption (even now on my 22k km run d200).
The right way to check the engine oil is mentioned in the manual. all you need to do is let the bike idle for a minute or two and shut if down, wait for 30 seconds and look at the oil sight glass with the bike upright (ask someone to hold it, and not on side or paddock stand). It should show close to the upper '-' mark (i.e. above the midway between the lower and upper '-') and on a cold engine it will be a little above the upper '-' mark.
Recently fellow member @Ajay Vishwanath had a break down one early morning at his office.. the bike refused to start and there was a pool of oil on the floor. I went over and checked it, it turned out be a lose ignition coil wire (bike fired up after tapping it with an extended juggad spanner set up.. faired bikes are so hard to work on
) and the oil leak was from the oil filter cap area due to a bad o ring. Since the RC has a faring, some oil is initially collected in the fairing belly pan area before it starts to drip down. He was very lucky that I was able to buy a bottle of engine oil at 4 am in the morning
. Thanks to a 24hrs Bharat petroleum bunk that saved the day and sold me a bottle of mak 20w40 4t oil. The bike took in approx 400ml oil (the sight glass initially showed almost below the lower '-' mark). So it means even though the oil level was below the lower mark, there was still around 1 litre of oil in the crank case.
And remember in emergencies you don't have to put in 'motul'.. any decent Xw40 or Xw50 oil would do. in fact even a xW30 is ok provided you ride out slowly till you reach the closest workshop. remember.. any oil is better than no oil. When you top up oil, always pour in little at a time and check to avoid over filling.
Get the bike warm and then rev it up to around 7000 rpm a few times on neutral and observe for smoke from the exhaust. Blue smoke indicates oil burning. Then have the oil drained in to an empty container and measured at the svc. That will give you a rough idea on the oil consumption.
Next have them open the air filter box and check if there is any blow by (oily residue in the air filter box)
And finally for a peace of mind, change the oil , oil filter and the oil filter housing O ring (don't skimp of a 10rs O ring during service/oil change).. just ask them to tilt the bike a bit to remove as much oil as possible. And fill up the recommended quantity. Next ask them to connect their diagnostic device and read out any errors and clear the Dtc's.
Observe over the next few days for oil consumption/leaks and warning messages.

Burnt oil can indicate a lot of things. But sticking to the topic and keeping it simple, oil level measurement on a cold engine can be checked the next day after an overnight park or 20 to 45 mins after a hot ride. In fact, you can only know the right amount of oil used by draining the engine oil and do a visual cross check to what the manufacturer recommends, that is 1.6L. Anything less than 1.4 we are looking at inadequate quantity of oil installed by your dealership.
Secondly, check for smoke during early morning starts, usually IT WILL smoke if we have head and bore problems If it smokes thick, smells oily we have problems with the rings and piston -- the bore kit in general. If you don't observe any such "paranormal" activities. Do a compression check at your dealership and install a fresh charge of oil with the right quantity, should get things in check.
Cheers!

Re: KTM RC 200 Owners Experience Thread
I did this today morning, it's perfect. After 2 minutes of idle, turned off engine. Waited for 30 seconds or bit more. Yes, it was close to the upper mark/above midway. When the engine was cold, the level was exactly on the upper mark, not more than that. Hope things are good for now.Originally posted by s1d View PostThe right way to check the engine oil is mentioned in the manual. all you need to do is let the bike idle for a minute or two and shut if down, wait for 30 seconds...

Tomorrow I will come to know the oil level, burnt or not and other damages. Fingers crossed there should not be any damage. I also doubt the quantity of oil installed in the last service.Burnt oil can indicate a lot of things. Can anyone suggest good tank grips for the RC? I am confused between stomp grips and techspec snakeskin, read online that stompgrips are way too aggressive and will eat through jeans and riding pants eventually.
Also i have no idea where to find snakeskin in mumbai, would be helpful if anyone can suggest a place for me to check it outNever ride faster than your guardian angel can fly.

been using the snakeskin for almost an year now. the best investment i made on any accessory for the bike i must say, greatly reduced the stress on hands and thighs since the legs now almost automatically lock onto the tank.
You can contact this shop, I believe they ship to anywhere in india. Gripsters usually cost 6k-7k depending upon size and model.
