  • I have seen foaming too in my oil window and it's expected as per my SC. The coolant levels have remained stable and oil is also dark when checked. If you see the oil turning into coffee color, then the mixing seems to be happening.

Also, the oil is supposed to be 10W50 right?

Sometime back I noticed foaming visible through engine oil gauge window and the coolant level in reservoir tank was little less then Max mark. I suspected that maybe coolant was mixing with engine oil so I took my bike to Bajaj SVC. The mechanic inspected and he was doubtful but not convinced as the engine oil looked decent to him.

He then drained the engine oil, replaced oil filter which had couple of bend fins and poured in 1500 ml of Bajaj 20W50 oil, topped up coolant, asked me to keep an eye on engine oil as well as coolant level and told me to come back if I notice anything suspicious. I guess at that time maybe they didn't have water pump rotor or seal in stock that's why he didn't bother opening water pump to check.

Anyways, now I have completed 1000 KM with new oil and noticed a strange thing. You see, my coolant level seems fine but when I ride my bike within city for shorter distance I see some kind of vapour inside the engine oil level glass. Unlike last time their is no foaming little bit of bubbles but this hazzy vapour stays which you can see in the pics below. So, is it normal or it's possible that coolant is mixing with oil slowly in very small quantity?

P.S. Pic took while engine was idling.
This can perhaps turn out to be something sinister than what actually meets the eye. Mild amount of frothing over the oil layer is completely normal, as the oil is whipped inside eventually froth in the form of bubbles appear over the oil level. This will disappear in a couple of seconds, once the engine is warmed up or when the engine is stopped. What you shouldn't be noticing is white foamy layer (latte-ish) stagnant for a while, this can perhaps mean there is mild coolant ingestion albeit ever so slightly to be a concern, for now. This can perhaps be attributed to a failing water pump seal and or a weak head gasket both allowing mild coolant ingestion.

What piques my interest, from the pictures you've posted, is the white foamy layer that's formed over the glass, which shouldn't be the case. No layer should be formed during cold or hot starts, bubbling is normal which settles down on its own once the engine is adequately warmed up. Do keep an eye on the coolant level and engine oil discoloration, it can reveal a lot what's happening inside. From what I can suggest, you do have coolant leak, albeit every so slightly and it's at the starting stages which often doesn't throw up any tantrums, until the issue gets severe and the engine seizes on a fine day, when you least expect.

      Good luck.

      Cheers!

And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

      • Hi guys, I have been a member from quite some time and have loved it how it has helped me in many aspects while buying a bike, maintaining it etc.

I wanted to write a 15000kms review of my 2022 D400 which I bought last November. It’s been a fuss free journey up until now, but the current problem I’m facing is with the mobile charger socket that has been provided. All of a sudden it has stopped charging my Oneplus 6T. Upon plugging it starts switching between charging/not charging status, and even if it does charge it shows insane time e.g. 3/4 hrs to full charge from 40% (that also it will show after because no plugged for half an hour).

At first I thought the charger is gone, and tried to get it changed under warranty at Bagga Link, Kirti Nagar service station. But when we plugged in the new one then and there itself it also was doing the same thing charging/not charging. Thought myself maybe bad luck could be so great that the new charger itself was defected piece, told them the same and asked to try another charger when I come next time. Came back home disappointed as I had to leave for somewhere.
Then I bought a usb device from Amazon which shows the Ampere and Voltage values when the phone is charging. When plugged it into my original Oneplus charger it’s how 1.40/.43A and 5.15ishV when charging. Upon connecting the same on bike charger I get values anything between 0 to 0.11.

Lived with it like that for a couple of months as I busty with work travel and some chores at home. Thursday I went again to Kirti Nagar service station and asked them to do a full diagnosis of what is happening. They tried another new charger just to rule out the possibility of earlier charger being kaput as well, but nope same results charging/not charging. They checked it with multimeter the battery is fine and is charging perfectly, current is coming till the coupler that is also fine but not flowing to the charger. Then one of the mechanic tried to make it direct with some other spare unused coupler which had wires cut. And when he used this coupler to I think the light coupler and then joined it with the coupler for charger boom it started working, same values as phone charger 5.15V &1.43A, meaning the charger was all good.
They asked me to leave the bike for inspection for 3-4hrs and I did.

When I went back around 3:30pm they were reassembling the headlight, and upon asking they said sir we have checked everything and also called some senior engineer at Bajaj and whatever he said we have followed and no flaws found, you can keep the bike use it for 2-3days and then let us know if it’s working and then we will talk to the Bajaj engineer and might have to change the whole wiring. I asked them to update the ecu and see if that makes a difference. He plugged the device selected 2021 model(though I insisted that mine is 2022 model as per Bajaj to which he said it has to be selected as per make year so he selected 2021) pushed some more buttons and then went inside and came back to tell that it can’t be updated right now as Bajaj’s server is not working you can come later on and I don’t know if he told me the truth or not.

Took the bike went to office and got busy with work. In the evening while returning home I plugged my phone just to check and boom it was working absolutely fine, charged my phone from mid 50ish to 85ish in about 40 minutes. I was so happy and was praying best wishes for the mechanic but my happiness didn’t last that long. Yesterday morning went to work with phone plugged and it was working absolutely fine again. But in the evening it again stopped working with same charging/not charging message, but still I kept it plugged in during my commute of an hour and it charged it from 59 to 61 in this duration. BTW my route is 65kms up and sown out of which 40-45would be on highways.

I have tried changing the cables no luck, tried changing the phone no luck same thing it charges extremely slow.

And now I’m worried about changing the wiring as it’s fairly new bike I mean and I have had no issues with bike or the Kirti Nagar service station guys in the past.
For this issue I heard them saying “is me do he cheeze ho sakti hai ya to wiring ya fir bike charger(alternator)”

Does anyone else is having same issues or any idea on what can be wrong, as all the other wiring is fine, current is coming till the charger coupler, and when checked the charger itself by directly connecting that is also working fine, so not sure what the problem is here.
Or should I contact some senior management in Bajaj or something? Any leads/contacts.

        • hey everyone im about to buy D400 just wanted to visit the forums and see what all issues are there with the bike, but the last post was like years ago, is no one else buying this bike?? I am upgrading from AS200 and i now doubt like last time D400 might get discontinued after purchase like last time.

xbhp forums are not as active as they use to be. You can go ahead with purchase if possible take extended warranty after initial period and do maintain the service record as per the company conditions.
