  • Which is the best windshield currently available for dominar. Is it the carbon racing type one with additional stabilizer or the lluvia type one . Another one I saw was jb racing/autonity touring model in amazon. How is the real world performance of these wrt actual windblast protection and vibrations/durability?
Haven been using Carbon Racing windshield(without stabilizer) since Jan 2020. When on highways I maintain 100-120 Kmph, and it gets the job done. Though it vibrates a little over 100Kmph, it is still stable. Adding those stabilizers will make it more robust. The only minor issue I faced is, after couple of rides the screws holding the visor loosened up. I removed the screws added some fevibond to the threads and socket and screwed them back, problem solved. So all I can say is, its a good Visor that serves the purpose.

Strange, did you get it checked at the service center?

Did you water/pressure wash the bike recently?

            Cheers!

            • Hi guys. Here after a very long time. Actually i have an issue. I have a Dominar 400 2017 model. I have shifted from Assam to Gurgaon during december 2021. I brought the bike via transport. But two issues had popped. One was coolant mixing with engine oil which was foxed. Another is a BATTERY issue which i am getting it day by day. Actually the thing is i got my battery replaced twice as the bike did not start All horns and etc are working good. But the engine does not crank up on start. Just makes a Tuck sound once and nothing happens. I pushed and started the bike today. But after starting and riding the bike again got the same issue so gave the battery for a recharge. Same thing again happened. I want to know what is the issue. I think it's with the dynamo. I do not know what is it called maybe a Condenser i guess because i had this same problem on my Pulsar 220 in the year 2014 and i fixed it by changing the dynamo. Can anyone tell me a good place to change it in Gurgaon. And also any other things i need to check . Also what will be the cost. I do not get the time coz i work at night shifts. All your responses are highly appreciated. Thanks 😊😊

              • Seems like you have a faulty stater relay. Start off by inspecting your starter relay and fuses. When you have a failed or stuck starter relay, the battery will drain fast and the bike won't fire up. When you press the switch, it will make a "tick" or "kirch" sound and that's about it. Your bike will run by performing a "dhakka" start, but once you turn the ignition off, the self motor won't fire up again. Start off by inspecting your starter relay.

                Keep us posted.

                Cheers!

                • Hello All!

So, I've encountered a rather peculiar problem with my D400 (2017 make). As you may notice in the attached images, the chain slider rubber protection thingie (I don't know what it is called) on the left side has come off and the portion of the swingarm where it is attached appears to have worn out/melted. I discussed this with the Bagga Link SVC (Kirti Nagar, Delhi) and they recommended that I need to change the entire swingarm to fix this. Do you guys reckon the advice is viable given that the swingarm would cost a bomb. Also, is it common that a swingarm made of cast aluminium just melts like that? Should I write to Bajaj? Please help.

A part that has rust cavity will eventually have its innards weakened. The rust induced decay is dangerous as it can structurally compromise the integrity of a given part and can crack or give up when riding. This happens due to one, poor maintenance, not washing and allowing dirty and grime to settle so long that they start to eat the metal, coupled with riding excessively in salty water areas which by its very nature is acidic and reacts with metal.

Now, it's advisable to replace the part to a new one as mentioned by your SVC and it wouldn't cost a bomb. Not all swing arms are made of aluminum, some box type swingarms are made of iron and they eventually rot given the wrong circumstances. The Dominar's isn't aluminum and it's made of iron, from start to now, AFAIK.

                    Cheers!

                        • I was away from Xbhp for a long time due to work & family. I had posted on this thread about the breakdown and consecutive issues with my Dominar 400 bought in Dec. 2019. I just wanted to update you guys that it was finally fixed after 1 year.

First incident was exactly 13 months after purchasing, where the engine broke down while riding on the highway. I got it towed to the SVC in Rajasthan and they replaced the half engine under warranty. Since then, I couldn't ride it beyond 6000 rpm as it was losing power and making rattling noise as if the valves are hitting on something. I argued a lot with them and they assured me that this noise is because of a new engine and will fade out after running in, I knew it was a lame excuse because they had no clue and I got a written promise from them that they will have to rectify the issue after 1500 kms.

A few months later I shifted to Noida and brought the motorcycle here in a commercial bolero camper and I rode along with the driver in the same vehicle. Here in Noida, showed the issue to a Bajaj SVC near my office who kept it for 20 days after which the mechanic declined to work on it! His excuse was that he is technically weak and can't work on a Dominar engine. I called the ASM and complained about it, he took strict action against that SVC.

Then I showed the same issue to a SVC in Ghaziabad, just 10 kms away from office. The SVC manager Mr. Mukesh Negi was experienced and technically sound as he supervised both Bajaj and KTM workshops. He also got the half engine changed under warranty. He told me he changed whole head, block piston set, practically everything but the clutch and gears.
But after that, the bike had starting issues, I had to raise the throttle immediately after cranking or else the engine would die. I again completed the running in for 1500 kms hoping that the engine would settle down and all issues would vanish. But the condition kept getting deteriorating, bike would hiccup as if running out of petrol several times a day.

Finally I went and showed it to the SVC manager Mr. Mukesh Negi again, he took it as a personal challenge and assured me that he has never seen this issue re-occur in all the motorcycles which he got repaired in his career. Just after 4 days, he calls me that the bike is now rectified and runs perfectly. I went there and took a test ride and I couldn't believe it, the motorcycle engine was as good as a new bike's engine, no hiccups, insane acceleration and full top speed. Turns out, the main IGNITION COIL was KAPUT and it was causing all these issues for the past 1 year!

Now the valves make that characteristic Honda - like symphony, kinda like a sewing machine, it was never present in my motorcycle ever before, maybe it's because of the BS6 engine parts they replaced with.

If you are able to get it to the SVC, then ask them to connect the OBD device and run a diagnostic. I had something similar and it turn sout the secondary ignition coil went kaput. After replacing that part, I've had no starting problems.

Didn't the previous SVCs use the OBD device to identify the exact reason? Seems like your bike went through so many fixes without knowing the problem area.

                              • Hi guys, I'd really appreciate if experts here shed some light on this topic.

Sometime back I noticed foaming visible through engine oil gauge window and the coolant level in reservoir tank was little less then Max mark. I suspected that maybe coolant was mixing with engine oil so I took my bike to Bajaj SVC. The mechanic inspected and he was doubtful but not convinced as the engine oil looked decent to him.

He then drained the engine oil, replaced oil filter which had couple of bend fins and poured in 1500 ml of Bajaj 20W50 oil, topped up coolant, asked me to keep an eye on engine oil as well as coolant level and told me to come back if I notice anything suspicious. I guess at that time maybe they didn't have water pump rotor or seal in stock that's why he didn't bother opening water pump to check.

Anyways, now I have completed 1000 KM with new oil and noticed a strange thing. You see, my coolant level seems fine but when I ride my bike within city for shorter distance I see some kind of vapour inside the engine oil level glass. Unlike last time their is no foaming little bit of bubbles but this hazzy vapour stays which you can see in the pics below. So, is it normal or it's possible that coolant is mixing with oil slowly in very small quantity?

P.S. Pic took while engine was idling.
