I completely agree this is a beautiful piece of machinery (apart from headlights) and perfect for ideal conditions... we did not get into a relationship for some reason or the other...no matter how much i enjoy riding this, i still feel something is lacking... hopefully i will find something that i will be connected to...

Hi I think I understand. It's not a KTM or a Ninja in performance or refinement. However if setup well- valve clearances, clutch play, chain play, general maintenance, it's a reliable and reasonably enjoyable bike. It doesn't like the higher side of the rev range. It does a bit of everything very well I feel, but not exceptional in any area. Just my opinion. Hope you find something closer to your heart :-)

Thanks VJ and Kiran.. if i have decided to continue to own this, then i would consider changing tyres first. I still cant connect with this Bike soulfully... 25K kms togetherness still dont feel the connect..

Hi. An upgrade to just Masseters made a lot of difference. I didn't think it would either till I experienced it. Still nicer tires could make more difference but was expensive for me considering my usage. I think I paid around Rs 2350 for the front. Now I almost only use front brakes and overall speed has increased because I can brake late. Also change the front fork oil every 10-12000km. Gives more riding comfort.

Well, that's the cheapest yet good brake pad you have on the bike OEM. If you consider even mediocre rear brake performance, then ASK brake pads should suffice I presume, though the pads are very cheap and third grade quality. Take my opinion with a pinch of salt, because this is totally a jugaad experiment.

I am not sure if that will help in my case.. Lowering will decrease the bite ergo lack of breaking.. i might have to reduce my speed in city which is fine.. but on highways that will be a huge hindrance.. even in city it wont help when there is a need for sudden breaks.. will changing break pads help? If so any recommendations?

Thanks, the exhaust note change was not much of a concern since the performance was the same throughout the run.

My bike has run 16000kms now. Not too long ago, the bike had severe performance issues due to tight clearances. After that, the clearances don't seem to stay put.

The clearances seem to tighten every 1000kms in my bike. If left unchecked, they could tighten too much and maybe even cause more damage.

Any bike running continuously for such duration will have occasional drop in exhaust note. It's an air cooled engine after all. Also, correct me if I'm wrong but people whom I've seen extracting performance or high revs on their FZ25 want their valve clearance lose (or that's what the ASC guy said to me). Yours is still new and the FZ's take good 2000-3000kms to open up and not lose steam.

I had a question regarding valve clearances.

After the trouble my bike went through, I noticed that the valve clearances wouldn't stick and would tighten automatically after sometime.

Last time, I adjusted them to 0.06/0.08. For the first 500kms, the bike was perfect. The bike started changing character after that.

So after 1000kms, I checked the clearances again. They had gone down to 0.05/0.07 and seemed to be tightening automatically after a relatively short interval. The effects of this were very noticeable - engine felt rougher, was lazy (-ier) to rev and strain post 80kmph.

I noticed that hard revving/high speed riding accelerated this process.

Also for some reason, after cruising at 90-110kmph for extended periods, say for 2-3 hours with short breaks and modulated throttle, the exhaust note changes to a higher frequency note (somewhat shrill sounding).

What could be causing this? Can it be because it was ridden with tight clearances for an extended period of time (around 5-6k kms), or can it be because of excess engine heat?

Spoke to the service center they said they have sent is to 3 to 4 shops to make new thread but no one is having the required tool to make the exact thread,
He said something about the screw type being Japanese which is not easily available in India. But he is making the last attempt by sending it to one more shop and he will tell me the final verdict tomorrow.

The idle screw jamming up is pretty much unheard of. The screw, unless fiddled earlier, won't jam as such, but that's for another day. Now, rethreading of the throttle body can be done, but it would require a bigger screw than that of the current one. All rethreading will go one step higher. So, finding that screw can be problematic.

But, I'd suggest try your luck with a lathe first, ask them will the old idle screw fit in without any issues or would there be a resize. I'd it's a resize, you better get a new body.

Just my two cents. Keep your observations posted.

Take the throttle body unit to a reputed Lathe workshop, they will most likely make new thread. another option is to adjust idle rpm digitally, ask svc to use digital rpm setting tool.

Hello everyone,

I recently purchase a pre owned FZ 25 after using it for a week i encountered a strange problem, whenever i used to ride my bike for more than 10 kms. in city traffic the idle rpm used to get so low that bike used to stop on engaging clutch or standing in neutral at traffic signals.

Took it to the service center, they said they will adjust the idle rpm, while doing so they said the rpm screw is jammed and they will need to remove it forcefully, left my bike there for the same, next day i was told that they need to make the thread in the assembly part as it is damaged due to jammed screw, but now they are telling me that they will have to change the entire assembly as the tool required for making thread is not available with them,

The cost of new assembly is approx 7k.

Kindly guide and help me out.

Hi. I had a lot of improvement when I changed my front to Masseter. Which is slightly bigger. I use the old R15 front brake pads also. If the road is good, can easily do a stoppie. Also the front just absorbs bumps so much better. Didn't realize it would make so much of improvement.
