Re: Ninja 650 2017 KRT Ownership Review

    Hi Guys.

This is my first Post to Xbhp.

I had been following this thread as soon as I booked Ninja 650 in the beginning of September. On Road Thane pricing comes t around 6.50 L for the black version I have booked. The dealer is giving me frame sliders and fork protectors as a part of the deal. I m relatively new to Super Bikes and this is my first upgrade from a Pulsar 200 NS

Request the experts in the forum to suggest me other needed accessories for the bike and where can I get them installed considering I belong to the Mumbai region.

    Thanks
    Gaurav

        Thanks Bro.

The cost has increased for Ninja 650 ( and other bikes too) due to the mandate by the government on purchasing mandatory 5 year third party insurance. As such the new insurance amount is 31250 (from 15984) approximately 15 grands.

I un-boxed the bike today and completed the payment related formalities. On road cost comes to around 6,87,848 on Road Mumbai. This is a MY 2019 model all black.

BTW you mean to say for 2x the premium, you got insurance for 4 additional years? Seems to be a pretty good deal...!

It's just the third party coverage. That's all.no own damage

Yeah, thats correct, its only third party. So you will get two insurances, one comprehensive for 1 year and a 5 year third party in addition.

In the comprehensive insurance third party premium also will be included I believe? If so are you paying twice for TP insurance...?

Well I don't have the breakup as of yet, as I will be taking the delivery on 11th Oct. I am sure there would not be a duplicate charge for third party for the first year. This is mandate by the government while buying a new vehicle, so should have been thought off by Insurance companies.

                    Hey Gaurav,

Congratulations on your new beauty mate. I'm from Borivli and also in a similar situation, looking to upgrade from my 200NS. When I enquired with Anzen Kawasaki a week back, the sales
Rep (Abhishek) informed me that MY2019 black colour is not yet available. Did you book it from Anzen? Did you consider the Z650 or any other bike before booking the N650? Have they charged handling charges? I have a lot of questions as you gather, if I can pm you or if you can share your details. Wishing you many more glorious miles on your green beauty.

Thank you thumpmeister !. I wil try to answer your questions...

MY 2019 N 650 is available since some time in India and there are only two colors at present, the other one being the KRT edition. They might be trying to sell you some old stock, you should be able to distinguish the MY 2019 model with the stickers if you plan to get the black one. Also the box which contains the windshield of the bike has the MY mentioned just to double ensure.

I did seriously considered Z650 over the N650 owing to the fact that Z could be easier in urban conditions and decent on the Highway too, also its 50 grand cheaper. However in flesh, it looked too much compact (like a Yahmaha FZ on steroids) and did not give me a feel that I am upgrading to a bigger bike. Moreover owning a naked already (NS 200) though very capable, but for highways better to have a tourer for wind protection. After doing a test ride of N650, the mind was clear to skip the Z, this one is quite nimble and can easily do daily office runs, which was my only doubt between the Z and N. Now when I am riding N in city, fairing is doing a good job in cutting out the heat.

Other bikes considered were KTM's 390, none of them are as toruing friendly, CBR 650F was outside the budget even though Honda ASS was cheaper than Kawa. One of my friends owns a Harley (street rod I think), but its too loud for my liking and better suited only for highways.

I did book it from Thane showroom, however did inquire at both the places and the quote was coming out similar. There is some handling charge which is clubbed in the registration charges at both the places, so I assume both of them are charging a similar amount. I Can give you more details in a PM about the dealership.
Let me know if you have other questions.

Hey thank you Gaurav for the detailed reply and yes your reasons for opting for the faired version over the naked twin is obvious. I will PM you my other queries so as not to waste the time and space on the forum for other readers.

                        Cheers

                            Z650
Pros: Cheaper, lighter, more flickable, initial rush is more, comfortable upright seating position
Cons: Too much wind blast above 130 kmph, less road presence.

                            N650
Pros: Sports bike design, sporty yet comfortable seating position, awesome high speed stability, way better in aero dynamics, better heat protection, better instrument cluster and the 'Ninja' branding
Cons: More expensive, risk of breaking fairing.

Now with the MY2019 Z650, price gap has further reduced between the Z650 (5.29 L) and N650 (5.49L).

There is a lot of heat from Twin Cylinder, even though radiator does a good job in cutting the heat and diverting to the ground, you might still feel some heat on the legs which the fairing would completely cut it out. Fairing can be kept safe with some good quality frame sliders and you have a zero dep insurance to cover in case if needed.

Z650 is mistaken at times as a Yamaha FZ latest model and has very low road presence. With the new paint scheme and Kawa green color going away, the road presence further diminishes.
