  • Hey Guys!,
So I've recently completed 10k kilometers and had met with a small accident before service.
The Tak Tak sound which comes when you break hard is due to the Cone-set. It seems the Cone-set needs to be replaced every 8k-10k kms according to the mechanic. Also, I had asked the guys at the service center and they had assured me that the valves need not be inspected till at least 25k kms or until there's tappet noise.
On the 10k Kms Service, I'm getting the following done:
    1. Chain kit replacement
    2. Spark Plug Replacement
    3. Air Filter Replacement
Do you suggest anything else be done? I asked for Fi Cleaning but was told that that also need not be done unless and until there are problems with the fueling.
    Coming on a separate note,
My experience with sourcing Suzuki's Spares has been horrible. It has taken well over 1 month to get spares (15 days the company was on a maintenance break), Another 15 days to get the parts.
My bike has still yet to be repaired.

Hi Dheeraj, is the Tak Tak sound coming from the handlebar or under the rear brake lever, for me it's under the rear brake lever when ever I apply rear brake hard. It feels As if something is in between the break lever. I double checked there's nothing in between the rear brake lever. Could not figure out what is causing this.

        Hey Barney,
For me it came when was breaking hard using the front lever. So the mechanic set the bike on the side stand and checked the handle and the Cone-set had enough play and suggested a Cone-set replacement. Usually the ABS acts up pretty quickly if you hit the rear hard and I have never experienced the sound from the rear wheel, try checking if there are any bends on the rear rim and check the rear discs for any abrasion or bends.

        • Thanks Dheeraj for your update.
"Tak-Tak" sound can also be examined by holding the front brake lever and push the handle downwards many times.....so it will be like the fork spring ground "tak" sound .....initially i was thinking in might be from brake pad but not able to identify.....but I dont hear that while running and hitting the brake hardly so i left it for , sure i need to inspect in next service.

Also the front fork spring dampening setup is different btw SF250 & Naked 250, the naked version is having smooth suspension setup and haven't felt that spring grounding feel....due to that the wheelbase is the difference of 5mm btw these two bikes.....the SF version has been tuned for stiffer mode for solid corner stability and the naked for easier chuckable, I felt it when riding both back to back and to be honest the naked 250 felt more lively and engaging might due to lighter weight or slightly ECU tuned, just the geometry change made the whole difference in biking.....

@Barney -----most likely its the ABS intervention for sure....even a slight hard rear brake is intrusive and its always. Its good configuration for 80-20 ratio.
But I felt the Front brakes is not SHARP for my liking.....high speed late braking gives me panic, but it does the job for calculated progressive stopping mostly beginner friendly ....thou its not matching for my riding style...i need something like duke or r15 strong initial bite.....rather progressive.

Any suggestions for getting SHARP initial bite for front brake would be great.....anyone tried changing to Braided Hose or master cylinder or sintered disc pad ?

          • Hi Siva, thanks for your inputs. I'll get it checked for any bend just to be sure as suggested by Dheeraj.

Before changing pads i suggest you to take a look at this

I have done this, changed the fluid to dot5.1. there's a slight improvement in braking. You might benefit as this is not expensive. Might cost around 500rs. Make sure to use only dot5.1, not dot.5.0.

            • Hello,
After some gap I have some important updates,

              Update1:
After a little bit of research bought Royal Enfield Nirvik Riding jacket,
Its a touring jacket which has all D3O protectors at back, chest(2 pieces), elbows and shoulders. Works very well in the north Indian winter, overall the jacket feels quite stiff, Have not ridden long distances to ascertain tourability.

              Update2:
the Stock MRF revZ were not satisfactory as discussed many times.

I was considering Micehlin Road 5 primarily, but later Added Apollo alpha H1 to consideration list based on the discussions in the team-bhp.

Considering that Road 5s were not readily available in Jaipur and that the tyres were actually quite expensive, I chose Apollo H1s,
Have ridden 40kms after fitment including a quick trip to the hills.

              Alpha H1s review:
              front - 110/70-17 & rear - 150/60-17 (both stock sizes)

The tyre profiles are rounded in comparison to revZs, this has transformed the bike in a big manner, now the bike handles very well, the bike readily tips into corners and the grip seemed sufficient in my limited testing.

The braking has also improved as I perceived the ABS kicking in later than older tyres. I feel the tyres are really worth it at this point of time, would reserve my final comments after a long ride to Himalayas.

Would share more photos when I find time.

              • My bike has a service coming up soon. Saw a powerdrift video where brake fluid can be upgraded from DOT4 to DOT 5.1 for much improved braking. Planning to go for that. Has anyone changed brake fluid from DOT 4 to DOT 5.1?

NoobOddity I have done that as mentioned in my earlier post. there's a slight improvement. You can go for it. I doubt if the service centre will have dot 5.1 fluid, you might have to source it on your own.

Thanks man. Did ask the SVC people. They said if I bring my own Dot 5.1 fluid, they will change it. They recommended top up, but should I go for replacement of brake fluid, despite the fact that both Dot 4 and DOT 5.1 are compatible? They said in case brakes need to be bled on replacement, it will take more time.

NoobOddity Bleeding the brakes and replacing the fluid is always better. It takes hardly 30 mins to bleed both front and back brakes. I've replaced my brake fluid with Liquimoly Dot 5.1 and noticed a bit of improvement in the brakes. It cost me around 120 rs when I got it done in the Service Center itself.

NoobOddity bleed the existing fluid completely then fill dot 5.1, make sure you are getting only 5.1 not 5.0 as 5.0 is not compatible and will mess up the braking system. Do not mix 4.0 and 5.1 then there's no point in changing the fluid. Ask the service technician to replace the fluid completely with 5.1

Hi dheeraj4 in Bangalore which service centre are you visiting? Are you aware if anyone had changed the handlebar with naked 2 gxr 250? If yes what was the total cost, if it is better to do.

Hi, I currently reside in Hyderabad and have been going to Gem Suzuki Kondapur. This is the only showroom in Hyderabad which has good trained mechanics and I have a pretty good relationship with the team there.

Coming to the handlebar, I don't know anyone who has changed the handle bar from the naked Gixxer 250 to the SF. But I've heard that the seating positions of both the motorcycles are quite similar and the Naked Gixxer 250 has a bit softer front suspension setup when compared to the SF.

                              • 4th Service done at 14k kms at an interval of 4500 kms. Front brake pads changed at a cost of about 650 including labour. They lasted these 14000 kms. How long do they usually last?
and the SVC people returned the Dot 5.1 brake fluid. Will have to get that done some other place!
