Another was an R15 where the pads didn't really get soaked but some oil leaked on to them - the bike was making screeching noise while running and the braking wasn't as sharp but not bad.

Whats is the running in specified by the owners manual supplied with the indian Ninja ?
4K sound very little
@xinfii
what is the fuel specifications for this bike as per owners manual?
no point using octane more than required.
and here is my experience with STP Octane booster (in cbr1000rr) put in the ratio of 6ml per liter on 91 octane - it made no diffrence at all... I will be trying higher concentration level this weekend. will put on my fireblade post the results.
@tenhunt : so sad about the brake pads at the simple try washing with petrol but be careful not to put it on any rubber part (like pipe). petrol disolves oil effectivly and eventually vaporise but u need to do a couple of rounds pour , spin wheel with light brakes (to clean )and dry.
yopur brak pad would be affected do try test braking and check effectivness on a safe road after cleaning..if it works lucky you...

Some insights on Ninja ownership-
Daytime Running lights is the most irritating feature of this bike. All the time, people keep indicating that the headlight is on. There is no way that I can turn it off.
Other than above, absolutely no complaints on any part.
The seating position is amazing. Once you grip fuel tank in your legs, seating is extremely comfortable and the handle bar position is on spot.
Another thing that I discovered is that this bike likes revving. On the first day, I drove it as any other 4stroke bike and was not greatly impressed by the power, pickup etc. However, once I discovered that you are supposed to drive it like a 2 stroke bike eg. RX100, I saw the actual colours of Ninja. Simply amazing. May be this is true for all superbikes but this is the first one owned by me.
Mirrors are absolutely vibration free. Till now have covered only 150 km in 3 days and absolutely all of it in Pune city. Extremely easy to drive and park.
Grips are super sticky and I am sure that even in extreme rains, chances of hands sliding off it are NIL.
The high beam is like turning on a flood light and is simply unusable in city. The lower beam is more than sufficient.
Rear seat extremely unusable by wife so searching for a gf. :-)Last edited by trustvishwas; 10-29-2009, 06:41 PM.Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and then beat you with experience.

Did you ever encounter any problem with potholes or speedbreakers due to the 135mm.ground clearance?Quench my thirst with gasoline!

Absolutely no problems. My house is only 2 km from my office and I encounter 8 traffic lights in between. So all my driving is in bumper to bumper traffic. It is the most amazing and self balancing bike I have ever driven. Even at speeds of less than 10kmph, I did not need to put out leg for balancing.
Also I have not encountered any problems of overheating. This bike heats up but not excessively. Even in drives of 10 km in city traffic, the temperature guage did not cross more than 75% of the range.
No problems for potholes or speedbreakers. However, the speedbreakers in my area are as per guidelines laid down by government so the gradient is not extremely high. I never had any nervousness about potholes or speedbreakers.Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and then beat you with experience.

It is a feature meant to make oncoming vehicle more visible. There is no switch to turn on or off headlight. If you look closely at the switchgear, you will see that only high/low beam switch is present.Never argue with an idiot. He will drag you down to his level and then beat you with experience.

Yeah, its a common feature on bikes sold abroad! You switch the ignition on, the headlight (low beam) comes on... Stays on...
Anyways, nice initial reports, just waiting to know how the service & spares part is handled...You get the point?? :D

What Vishwas said about it is spot on though...
I encounter about 4 to 5 ppl everyday making a wierd gesture to me when on road. Initially I even stopped to ask what they were trying to convey. It gets very irritating....to such an extent that you want them to bugger off. One guy put his hand right in front of my line of travel to tell me that my Headlight is on. Now I am used to it...used to ignoring them I mean.
One thing I have noticed is ppl really wanna talk to you when you are on the road riding the bike. I am getting used to that too. I dont know about other countries but if you see someone making any gestures at you in germany you halt the bike asap and check if everything is alright. Ppl here just wanna make small talk. One guy was wanting to tell me how his motorcycles number matched that of mine. LOL...i was in splits.
But I am enjoying every aspect of it. I have about 700 kms on the odo and the bike is opening up good now. Again as Vishwas said...if you dont rev the bike its as good as any other bike. But when the revs are high the bike puts its class on display and you then know why this 250 cc has been tagged as a "Ninja"
@Inder : get back to pune and gimme a buzz or PM me your cell. ( I am sending you mine now )
@ The one who asked what the break in limit in the owners manual is : 4K
and the Octane Rating in the owners manual is 91.
Speed/Extra-premium/Shell Super are the only ones i am tanking up with. dont plan on any octane boosters as the bike doesnt need more than 91.
The Disc brakes and brake pads after getting soaked in oil are performing at 70%. They just arent as crisp...
Cleaning with petrol will glaze the rotor. I am gonna dismantle and rub some sand paper on the rotor this sunday while the pads will be either changed or then cleaned with petrol.
Vishwas how about making a trip to mahabaleshwar next weekend ? ( Not the coming one ! )
