    this is what happened at 10.30 today...

    my bike is now not goin beyond 6500 RPM an every gear..the engine is behaving like it's not gettin fuel after this RPM...

    to top it all the bike is revvin freely to 10000 RPM while stationary but not revving after 6500 whle riding...

    now i'm gonna take it to SC whr i dont trust the guys workin on bike....

    after all the constent issues of the FI i think TVS made a wise choice of givin 180 carb....

Open the head and found the exhaust valve is bend, not visible but a caliper test shows the result. Valve came into warranty, but has to pay for some copper washer, and valve steam spring and the whole grinding process. They clean the head with Carbon tetrachloride & petrol, and fixed the new valves, and send it to lathe for final grinding and setting job. Piston head also got some crystallize carbon junk, clean the thing same way. After getting the head from lather they take one hour to assemble the engine. He suggest me some a good pump and told me to fill the petrol in the preferably morning.

      There was another four RTR, with the same kind of problem, most of them are Fi and with lots of carbon over the head. One thing is sure whether it is bad fuel or not, tappet settings are needed to check every 5000 km to avoid valve bending.

      Lastly they advise me to easy on the throttle for at least 200km, as the new valve will take time to get set, and the old punch of my RTR is restored.

      Thanks TVS for the good service.

      Total cost including a fresh mobile change is Rs.532.00
      Are you sure they only cleaned it with CCl4... and did not mechanically scrape the carbon? When I was at my Hero HOnda service centre several months ago, I watched them just scrape the head and everything with a screwdriver! And very carelessly too. The sight was actually terrifying! I asked the manager why they do it that way... should they not use some cleaning solution istead? He said yes, thats the right way, but it takes much longer, and they simply dont have so much time, as they have so many bikes to attend to!!!

      So beware!

          ouch ! that sux man.

          interestingly, if you remember i said that my fi doesn't have any of the common fi related problems. but on the very first day, when i was bringing the bike from the godown to the showroom (i insisted that i will ride it down myself), i had the same problem. in fact the bike was bogging down after 5k rpm. it seemed like either an ignition related prob or fuel flow prob. and it was due to the fuel pipe being too long and kinking under the tank. due to this constriction there wasnt enough flow at higher rpms. and it was revving fine in neutral. they solved it by shortening the fuel pipe to the correct length (dunno if they cut it or replaced it). i also remember you mentioning this. but i dont remember if you also shortened your pipe. if you didn't, then try that first.

          it's funny, just yesterday i was telling a friend about my fi ownership experience and i commented that since my bike gave me a major scare just as soon as i bought it, before even reaching home, maybe that's why i didn't have any probs later. guess all new owners should pray for an initial problem to get rid of all the bad luck later.

              well i opened the plug of my bike in eve...

              it was PERFECT in colour...

              still i cleaned it with a dry cloth and sprayed the tip of it with WD-40 and fitted it back...

              but what i didnt noticed was tht my fuel display was showin 2 bars,as the pump was away and the road was full of traffic it forced me to drive below 5000 RPM so i was not able to know the 'missing' part...

              i reached thr and filled 10 ltrs and finally found road empty....

              whoa.......!!!!!!!!!

              it came on to it's own again.....
              i touched 11000 RPM in 2,3 and 4 gear and it was running smooth and MAD again....

              i think low fuel forced the pump to make less presure at high throttle input tht resulted in "missin" above 6500 RPM...

              total i covered 15kms and it ran amazin.....

              @JULIAN....

              i too noticed tht the pipe which is goin from the tank is long and is severely bent..
              i never got time to shorten it as it requires empting the whole tank as i'm not able to find a way to stop the fuel flow....

              @SATISH...

              i'm keeping my fingers crossed now....
              nahi to WARRANTY to hai hi......

                use appropriate sized bolts (not too thick) as plugs in the pipes. better if you can find a smooth plastic like plug, but bolts do the job too. i haven't checked the size of the fi pipes myself or i'd tell you what size. usually a 10mm bolt is the right size for 'regular' petrol pipes. oh, and make sure you use one with a short shaft. you dont want to screw it too deep into the pipe.

                            • ^^^^^^^

                              dude 180 is less "expensive" in evry way from FI...

                              plus tubeless,more power...but without the awesome exhaust note of the FI...

                              go for it the 180....
