The 2014 Champion (Sylvain Guintoli) on the Aprilia wasted no time in jumping ships by joining PATA Honda as Aprilia decided to take an off from wsbk to focus on their efforts in MotoGP.

This void for the champ was made by Jonny Rae who left Honda to join my fav - Kawasaki Racing Team.
About Kawasaki, Tom Sykes missed the championship last year by 6 points. Though he missed it in 2012 by half a point to lift the cup in 2013.
Talking about champion, Michael van der Mark - 2014 Supersport Champion, will be riding along side the 2014 WSBK champ. So it's all champions team for Pata Honda this year.
Coming to MotoGP, yes it's not a typo - Toni Elias (JR Racing BMW), Jordi Torres (Red Devils Roma Aprilia), Nico Terol(Althea Ducati), Randy de Puniet(Crescent Suzuki) and Niccolo Canepa (Erik Buell Racing) are former MotoGP and Moto2 riders who will be adding their twist to the tale.
The testing at Philip Island is over and this is how it stands:
1. Alex Lowes GBR Voltcom Crescent Suzuki GSX-R10001m 30.859s

Now here are the points to be excited about:
1)Troy Bayliss will race with his iconic #21 plate when he makes his surprise return to the World Superbike Championship at Phillip Island.
The three-time world champion will make a spectacular comeback to the series at Phillip Island this weekend after putting himself forward to replace the injured Davide Giugliano on the Aruba.it Ducati Panigale R.
2)
Jordi Torres - the WSBK Rookie and a former Moto2 rider is already upto the pace with 3rd fastest Lap time.
3) Tom Sykes' partner - Jonny Rae is already faster than the former Champion. Considering their exchange on track last year towards the end of the season, Kawasaki is bound to have fireworks irrespective of the results of the races.

Now if you don't want to go through the text above, feast on the WSBK machines:Click image for larger version

Re: WSBK 2015 Championship - Update

Whoa! As usual these guys come up with interesting livery. Last year i supported Guintoli and i wasnt disappointed! This time gonna continue to support him, Torres (really surprised to see him in the top) & of course one of my favourtie riders Toni Elias!

Super excited to see the 45 yr old Bayliss come back, i really wonder what these guys are made of!!! Crazy nuts!!! But really want to see the magician in full flow, though he is 3.2sec off the top in FP1 I feel he will be able to surprise us in the race!

Why isnt Toni Elias name featuring in the sessions?
R-series: please send the link where i can watch the race
Young riders pick a destination and go, Old riders pick a direction and go !

Hey thanks for starting this thread R!

I thought nobody was interested in WSBK anymore. Even globally WSBK has been on a downward spiral.

This weekend interest has suddenly come back because of Bayliss' wildcard appearance. Just shows just good racing is not enough to sell to the audience. You need dynamic personalities as well.

People like Rossi, Marquez are not just great racers but fantastic crowd pullers as well.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Give your details here if you want to help your fellow xBhpian stranded in your city

So good to have all the xbhp motorsports fan back
Yep that's True, apart from Rossi and Marquez, WSBK also lacks exposure. Less rounds, less races, less countries and then you have telecast issues where Tensports covers MotoGP in India, we can't rely on star sports for WSBK.

Excitement building up to raceday. Today's free practice sees Torres topping the list, with Sykes at 3rd. 2014 Supersport champion in 4th and 2014 superbike champion in 8th.
Waiting for Troy Bayliss to get upto pace, currently in 17th.
shelton_jh I don't have a link readily available, I'll share it if I find anything. But I won't be able to watch it live as I've got a track day Sunday morning. Race is at 6:30AM and 9:10AM Indian time. Would surely download the whole race later.

Non HD links are easily available online to watch the race.

Yeah the 2014 Champion is in for a very long year on board that Honda apparently! It is so good to see so many manufacturers in the mix unlike MotoGP. Next year Yamaha will also be back with the new R1M.

Re: WSBK 2015 Championship - Update

So Jonathan Rea is going to be starting from Pole in the season opener at Phillip Island. His first outing on the Kawasaki and he gets pole. Though nobody could get a chance to set a time on qualifying tyres leaving Sykes far down the order.

No Clue. Don't have a television at home

But what a fantastic bunch of races in WSBK and WSS. Season opener was excellent. Whetting my appetite for the remainder.

J Rea and Leon Haslam did a stellar job of entertaining the crowd with Chaz Davies, Van Der Mark doing incredible supporting roles in spicing it up.

WSS was won by the Frenchman but the entertainer was a young Brit and the Turk. The Moto 2 riders who have moved up to WSBK and WSS are incredibly talented as is apparent from their performance at Phillip Island.

Great race. Bring on the rest of the season!

Thanks for posting the race Monk.

I knew Rae was going scarily fast on his debut on the 10R, but didn't expect him to win the 1st race on the Kwaker. Thinking about changing garages

Will watch the races later tonight, but I did manage to follow the results Race1:
1. Jonathan Rea GBR Kawasaki Racing
2. Leon Haslam GBR Red Devils Roma Aprilia
3. Chaz Davies GBR Aruba.it Racing Ducati
4. Jordi Torres ESP Red Devils Roma Aprilia
5. Michael van der Mark NED PATA Honda
6. Tom Sykes GBR Kawasaki Racing
7. Sylvain Guintoli FRA PATA Honda
8. Nico Terol ESP Althea Ducati 1199R
9. Alex Lowes GBR Voltcom Crescent Suzuki
10. Leon Camier GBR MV Agusta

Kawasakis vs Aprilia - that has been the story since last few year, it seems to be building the same way this year. Ducati is always there to pic the pieces, would surely win races this season. Tommy and the french champion are always together. Are the riders faster this year, or have the champs slowed down?

Race 2 result:

1. Leon Haslam GBR Red Devils Roma Aprilia
2. Jonathan Rea GBR Kawasaki Racing
3. Chaz Davies GBR Aruba.it Racing Ducati
4. Tom Sykes GBR Kawasaki Racing
5. Sylvain Guintoli FRA PATA Honda
6. Nico Terol ESP Althea Ducati
7. Randy de Puniet FRA Voltcom Crescent Suzuki
8. Leon Camier GBR MV Agusta
9. Matteo Baiocco ITA Althea Ducati
10. Roman Ramos ESP GO Eleven Kawasaki

It's 1:1 for Kwakers and Aprilia each. Johnny and Leon tied at 1st spot. If Tom and Sylvain don't up the ante in the coming races, then fighting for the championship won't be a task they'll be working for. Jodi Torres and Michael van der Mark seem to be copying each other . Both rookies to the WSBK grid.

Next race 22 March. Long wait ahead.
Just because you haven't seen it doesnt mean its impossible...expect the unexpected.

Amusingly the top two guys were teammates last year on a bike which was just not competitive and suddenly with a change in factory both have won races in the very first round. Shows how much difference a good motorcycle can make, even when the riders are so skilled.
