I'd like to know how this works? Is HD content dependent on the broadcasting channel or the service provider (read that as Tata Sky, Airtel et al)?

even though many channels are avail. in HD ,we only have SUn dth that gives few HD channels . rest of the serv. providers all are on 480p resolution i guess . HD is 780 and FULL or True HD is 1080P .

Oh they do, they certainly do .. just that they don't beleive in telecasting it live. I watched the sunday races on tuesday morning on star sports!

Edit: The sunday WSBK races ...

The broadcasting chennel should first have HD content and then its upto the service provider to give you HD, if they have the capability to.

As per motoGP.com, the broadcast channel for Asia (ESPNSTAR) should have the HD content.
Now its up to our DTH service providers. Perhaps I should call up my SP and figure this out.

              Cheers

                Moto2 Test pics:

Interesting to see different bikes (shapewise, chassis, etc) with same engine (CBR600RR) and tyres (Dunlop)
Top 16 riders within one second of difference in their lap times. I bet moto2 will be far more interesting than the premier class

HD content would require more bandwidth and higher data speeds. Not every SP may have that. More than the resolution what I really miss in the telecasts is the feel for speed and the roar of those 240bhp monsters .. I hope they do something about it.

Dorna has apparently conducted trials of 3D camera systems. In a few years from now I would want a 3D TV and my SP to provide 3D content!

Totally agree. But there are two points here:

                    1. Not many channels here in India are telecast DTH with HD or Full HD. Hence I doubt if you will actually be able to tell the difference.
                    2. Further, you are one of the lucky few to have Full HD screen. Not all of us are that lucky!

All I can say, enjoy your movies in Full HD for the moment.
The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

3D sounds like light years away for us. We don't even get HD

Except Sun DTH, I dont think any channel broadcast in HD.
Well I got my TV, a Samsung 5 series 32" LCD, 1.5 yrs ago hoping HD content will soon be available. Its not a fancy set going by today's standards but I am happy with what I get, HD or not.

Don't mean to sound like a broken record, atleast we will get live telecast of MotoGP races unlike superbikes.

                        Cheers

Agree .. but things are certainly changing and our wishes might be fulfilled sooner than we expect. I guess its a case of demand and supply. If there are enough people demand HD and maybe willing to pay more for the SPs should oblige.

But many of the nail biting moments are lost when you know that Biaggi and his RSV4 are going to win anyway. It would only be a question and when he lost and regained his position during the race.

That's why we need to watch it live!

Not quite, you can watch it on the net through some live feeds.
