  • This is what the master himself has to say:

“As we say in Italy, 'Mamma Mia!' ” beamed Rossi. “I think I can honestly say that this was one of the best and hardest wins of my career."

“The two greatest battles in recent years have been with Casey at Laguna and Jorge here, but they were very different races. At Laguna unfortunately Casey didn't make it to the end so I could relax, but here it was to the last breath."

“This was a great, great victory because it went to the very last corner and it's a long time since that has happened. I have dreamed about that move for the last two weeks and today it worked and I am so happy to have this 99th win."

“We did a perfect job all weekend and my M1 and Bridgestone tyres were brilliant, but we knew that Lorenzo was in the same situation and for sure he was very strong today."

“I had to be very brave and take it right to the limit in order to beat him. This victory today is more important than the 25 points and anyway now we all have the same points, what a championship this is!” added Rossi, referring to the three-way tie at the top of the world championship.

“As well as thanking my team, I especially want to dedicate this win to my crew chief Jeremy Burgess because his mother sadly died yesterday. I have to say thank you because without him, for sure, I would never have arrived at 99 wins."

“Now I am going to go to sleep for quite a long time because I need to recover from this excitement!” the 30-year-old concluded.

    • Welcome back racing to the MotoGP class!!

Words fail me, the last lap was awesome. Rossi overtook where Lorenzo did not expect. Fantabulous! Was hyperventilating for 30 minutes past the race.

The 125 race was funny, Julian Simon must be feeling like the world's biggest chump now. Aoyoma, he's my star in 250, what a drive.

      Cheers

Good to see that I'm not the only one enjoying the 125's and 250's.

Like I mentioned in the earlier page. Simon is probably the new Youtube sensation

Stoner happy with brave podium | The Official MotoGP Website
To some extent you can make out from his interviews and what he says after every defeat.
Similar kind of words from him in Jerez this year when he complained about the tyres and said that he was afraid that Lorenzo will go past him and he'll lose the podium.
This race he said he gave up in the middle of race and wanted to go into the pits.
Although he being very frank in his words in front of the media but if a person thinks and says like that, the same will be reflected in his actions.
He isn't as tough mentally as others are in the business (Lorenzo, Rossi, etc).
In my view these words shouldn't be said in the press conference where his words will be taken twisted and presented in front of the world in an altogether different way. Not everybody gets to listen to the live conference by the riders, some hugely rely on the website news and other sources.

Eventually it'll be his words/actions only which will come back and haunt him and may effect him in the subsequent races.

Of course it was a brave move to go ahead and finish the race ahead of Dovi and I do respect him for that but it just that somebody like Stoner being a former champion shouldn't be whining about his shortcomings after every defeat.

PS: This isn't just because I am Rossi fan and trying to belittle any other rider. Just my thoughts. Peace.

Didn't anybody try switching to Zee Sports? Because generally Zee Sports will take over the airing of whatever ten sports isn't showing.

We (Prabhu and I) switched to Star sports for the race.

He says about his short comings after his win too. In mugello though he won beating Rossi for first time, he did speak about the short comings, clutch issue.

ya he had issues with his tyres, and he said it. Also such words will cool his competitors grudge. Sure the scene would not be better, if he had said 'Lorenzo tried his best, but unfortunate that he fell behind me'

He didnt give up because the other 2 where 7 secs ahead of him. He felt so because of he was sick with cramps on his back and stomach.
we have seen even the top guns running to the pits, giving up after a run through penalty, which is again right from their/your perspective.

has any media till date has said the above words in bold?? No! Which means the view point of the words are different!
One needs different skills to master a Ducati and he has done that. You see how Nicky is striggling. He has said a lot about the difference he faced after moving to the Duc.

Its not whinning after a defeat, its the learning that he takes from the short comings, let be a defeat or win.

phew! good that I read the scrolling text in ten sports, then raced to Sumits house, in the Hurry over shoot beyond to his street, then turned back and finally reached to know that There was no poer in his house.
But good that power was back after a while.

Yup that time he'll be blabbering about his win hinting Rossi couldn't beat me up even though I wasn't 100% . Just joking.

But on the serious note, my point here is
There is a thin line between being clever and being stupid/arrogant in front of media with the same words in different scenarios.

How do you think that Lorenzo will have grudges against Stoner when it was Lorenzo's mistake himself when he crashed. Again seeing and interpreting a scenario in a way that suits your preference.

May be he was too scared to be left behind in the points table if he retires from the race (wise decision of going through with the race) and might not be able to cover up the points afterwards in the championship .
And who doesn't have problems before/during the race. Ask Dani how he must have felt while riding on total pain killers.

That wasn't any critics quote. It was my personal thought that he goes down when it comes to close fairing to fairing type races which was most evident in Laguna Seca last year.
I am sure you haven't gone through those race reports and critics about Stoner.
I do not have the links of the reports right now but surely I'll try to get those for you.
For Nicky it's the first time he is handling the Ducati. But if stoner, who has won a championship on ducati and has been riding for 3 straight years, says that he isn't accustomed to the machine then it doesn't make any sense.
