Government doesn't decide the price for premium fuels. These fuels are priced by oil companies only and they can price them at Rs 100/litre even if normal fuel prices are halved since premium fuels are more of a want than need. But it's a stupid & uneducated logic by oil companies that premium fuels are used only by high end vehicles like Audi, BMW & Mercedes. Since they are Indian oil companies, I am not sure if they have any knowledge that people like us (XBHP) use premium petrol even for their Activa's & Rodeos, let go bikes. Maybe XBHP should make them join their website so they can know that premium fuels are not only consumed by the filthy rich but also by others who work their a*s off to get that one high performance bike for which premium fuels are strictly recommended. And even if a guy/girl has a big cruiser, supersport or even superbike for that matter doesn't mean that he has crores of Gandhi's in his bank account which is also due to Gandhi's who just happened to be alive. I used to use Xtra premium or speed for my bikes (even for my 11 year old CBZ) & car as they are noticbly smoother. But was shocked to see the price yesterday and decided to go for normal petrol (Rs68.** compared to Rs77.** for premium which was Rs71.** last week). There was a Rs2.5 difference between normal and premium and even if I used 100 litres of fuel in a month, I was only paying Rs250 extra, which was manageable but now this difference has increased 3 fold.
Can't even express how irritated I felt after seeing that price. When confirmed with the petrol pump attendant, he said that all pumps were notified through an SMS notifying to increase premium fuel prices right away. There was no news coverage for hike on premium fuels so it's highly unlikely that it will ever be rolled back unless sons/daughters of all oil company heads decide to buy premium bikes so their parents come to know that even bikers use premium fuels
Now have decided to use more & more of public transport but one venture inside Delhi metro can scare the hell out of any daredevil biker. But what's the choice when our oil companies are stuck with decades old mentality and our so helpful government has to compensate for all the scams through fuel, LPG price hikes. I have decided to ride less but ride well so will have to rejig finances to not go broke for the passion of riding
