This SZ-R gets a tachometer, better tank extensions, a new paintjob for this 2500 extra. And the 245mm Disk also, as you mentioned.Originally posted by vrugonnab View PostYou can test ride the SZ-X itself.. this one got just a disc brake extra.. nothing more than that.
This Disk brake setup is a brand new one, not copied from existing yamaha models. I saw this bike in flesh when I was doing training at Yamaha showroom, few days back.
It's an obvious competition to Discover 150.---

Training ??? !!! what kind of training ???Originally posted by Samarth 619 View PostI was doing training at Yamaha showroom, few days back.

I heard that Zig-wheels found its top end performance similar to the FZ, so there has been some subtle performance enhancements over the SZ-X.

A friend of mine doing B.Tech wanted to do training at Yamaha service centre during his holidays. So, I joined him (despite being an MBA, not an engineer).Originally posted by MACH50 View PostTraining ??? !!! what kind of training ???

The owner obliged as he is my friend. So, we did 15 days of technical training in Yamaha workshop, in which we learned things like servicing FZ and R15, adjusting carburettors, opening front suspension and changing oil seals, adjusting chains and a lot more... It lasted for 15 days and 3 hours daily.
Yamaha's service is the best in my city I found. A bad point was that employees used customer's bikes for stunting...
Really, it was a great experience, and we learned a lot.
SZ-R is quoted to have 12.1 PS so I guess maybe the guys at Zigwheels meant that it has a comparable top speed, which is possible due to smaller rear tyre and 5 kgs lesser weight.
I checked gearing and it seems the SZ-R has a undergeared 5th gear (0.916) compared to FZ (0.875)... Also, the final gearing is changed.Last edited by Samarth 619; 02-15-2011, 01:52 AM.---

I don't think that it can beat the Hunk in a street race, drag race etc...
The engine is the same as the FZ / Fazer but tuned differently which produces only 12 BHP. The Hunk would certainly produce more power than that.
Although the SZ-R looks like a nice bike at this price point but it could have been better in terms of looks considering the not-so-good-looking dials and petrol tank cap which is old school.
Yamaha certainly need to work very hard to increase their dealers and service centers all across India if they want to compete with the other bigger players like Bajaj, Hero Honda and Honda.Signals which are timed for 50 Kmph are also timed for 100 Kmph :)

I don't think so if it is only a small pick-up race, Hunk has a good 0-60kmph of 5.08 secs, slower than only the RTR160(5.04 secs).Originally posted by Satyamzma View Postcan this bike beat Hunk in street race ??
But the top end of Hunk on the other hand is only 107kmph true........well SZ-R does around 111kmph true.
Hunk weighs around 145 kg, the SZ-R only weighs 132 kg.
So it all boils down to the rider.
But I do not think that who can beat what and that too in a street race is not the commendable parameter that is accepted or judged by here at Xbhp.Hell's Angel

hunk surely beats the sz r in top whack and top end punch because of the power advantage. but sz r beats the hunk in low and mid range torque. this is because in sz r, the max torque 12.8Nm is peaking at an early 4.5k rpm itself, making it capable of rolling on from 30kph to 70kph in 5th gear in an impressive 8.39secs(refer Buy New Cars, Selling a Car, Auto Car Reviews, Car News, Zigwheels). fz requires 12.3 secs and even the pulsar180 requires more than 9 secs for the same. pretty impressive for the szr. isn't it? the hunk is better in terms of power, size, goodies etc. and yeah, the fuel cap is a it old school, and so as the dialsOriginally posted by cmahajan View PostI don't think that it can beat the Hunk in a street race, drag race etc...

. but it is far better than not having a tacho at all like its siblings.
