i wonder, if they have even consulted an auto expert, before framing such a law.

+1 to that.Isnt it necessary to have complete detail on a law?i mean who is to judge if its loud?cops can just fine even if we have an aftermarket & completely legal exhaust but "its a modified one".Originally posted by princesirohi View Postinstead of making rules which have loopholes, and rules which are not techniclly correct, they should have specified the sound level in terms of dB.
Wow,tnx for that,i can relax nowOriginally posted by chinmayakar View PostWould like to correct. With the DB Killer it is not very loud. I swapped my Joeled FFE yesterday for a new FFE with the DB Killer by Joel. Though acceleration has come down a bit, but the overall performance is still better than the stock bike and the bike is more tractable.
The answer is NO, the FFE with DB Killer does not make loud noise. A bit louder than the Stock, but not loud enough to grab attention.
Smoke rubber,not tobacco.

The law is detailed the only problem is that generally the common public is not aware of it and hence the cops take undue advantage of the situation. FYI as per Section 190(2) of the indian motor vehicle act 1988 states that Any person driving or permitting to drive in any public place any motor vehicle which violates the standards prescribed in relation to road safety, control of noise and air pollution. (using vehicle with defective or without silencer, etc) can be fined Rs.1000 for first offence and Rs.2000 for second or subsequent offence.Originally posted by princesirohi View Postinstead of making rules which have loopholes, and rules which are not techniclly correct, they should have specified the sound level in terms of dB.

Also the noise standards to be maintained are mentioned in the part E of schedule VI to the Environment (protection) rules, 1986 when tested as per IS:3028-1998, as amended from time to time; they are as follows:
Category of Vehicle ----------------------------------------------------- Noise limit in dB(A)
(a)Motorcycle,scooters and three wheelers. ------------------------------------ 80
(b)Passenger Cars -------------------------------------------------------------- 82
(c)Passenger or commercial vehicles upto 4 MT ----------------------------------- 85
(d)Passenger or commercial vehicles above 4 MT and upto 12 MT-------------------89
(e)Passenger or commercial vehicles exceeding 12 MT ------------------------------91
---------------------------------------------------------------
This is the info that most of us don't know but more importantly even our so called " KEEPER's OF THE LAW" are unaware of, i generally carry a booklet of the Indian motor vehicles Act along with the central motor vehicles rules with me to just screw around with these cops whenever i am stopped.____________________

Even in B'lore police have caught many and fined them. Any modifications has to be done on RTO's approval, no RTO in the country gives approval for exhaust modification, so exhaust mods are punishable under RTO act, it's not new. Please remember it's not fine, RTO can actually sieze the vehicle and file a case as well !!Originally posted by ZeNashB View PostIn my city, Mysore, its already a punishable offense. My friend who had Joel's exhaust on his pulsar was caught, and fined for it. His bike was also impounded for a day. Its been under implementation here for quite a while now

If this spreads rapidly to other cities, it might affect Joel's aftermarket parts demand and ultimately, its cost.
Anyways, it seems he has to now make exhausts that look like stock exhausts. This way, you can keep a db killer on, and slow down if you see a Mamu' on the road.
Or Joel would have to innovate a totally new electronically controlled db killer, which activates on press of a button. Now that would be almost Mission Impossible.
Ok ok, enough said. Let's hope for the best...---

Hopeless. Just like the stupid cops who stop traffic and almost sniff your face every 2nd day near Radisson in the name of drunk driving - they should define a technical parameter, and equip the force with the dedicated tools for the same.
Which they never will. More ways for some of the corrupt cops to extort cash.

Nothing new. Every vehicle that is manufactured and sold in india has a specific and explicit note in the owners manual that modifying the vehicle in any way can be dangerous and/or illegal. So in this sense, even adding a high flow air filter or upsized tires is illegal. :P
Stupid if you ask me but rules should apply to all. If you're gonna stop bikes, then as well fine the auto's and polluting govt. vehicles too.

So in a nation where people (including, or should I say specially, cops) speed while on the wrong side on a national highway with 3 people on the bike - all without helmets not to mention DL, RC, PUC or insurance, the government's priority is to check - loud exhausts??????
This ad by the police is a joke, right?

The stock exhausts of new RE's aren't really loud but yeah those after market rocket/goldie's etc are loud !!Originally posted by freekoo View PostGuys you are forgetting the Most important 2 wheeler The RE BULLET which will not only exceeds the 80 db limit but also sounds irritating.........and they come with stock exhaust........
Performance tuned FFE's like Joel's is fine but we see lot of 100CC bikes and two strokers which make a lot of noise than going ahead.
More show no go !!
I would say keep the FFE's out of city limits, use it in tracks or highways
