  • $2000 Helmet

    2000 dollars Helmet err... roughly, 110000 INR things are progressing on the right side.

    Still a lot of questions unanswered as to this technology, but the heads up on the project is a sure shot way to make sci-fi addicts go topsy-turvy.

    like combat pilots do from their helmets in jet planes or helicopters, it will navigate you to your destination with ease and in style.Russian startup LiveMap is working on a state-of-art motorcycle helmet with a built-in navigation system that accepts voice commands.

    Iron Man
    LiveMap has been working on the project for last five years. It has conjured up prototypes for the outer shell, electronic board, optics, and software with the support of Moscow Department of Science and other foundations.

    Now the team hopes to ramp up its development, conduct testing, and obtain certifications before they put it into industrial production for a late 2014 release. The gadget is expected to debut in United States and Canada.
    To take it to production, LiveMap is looking to raise $150,000
    Lines between science-fiction and reality seem to be blurring, and after Google Glass and MYO, wearable technology seems to be catching on.

    Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
    The girl said, 'NO!'

    And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.

    THE END

      @B7ACKTHORN.

      Nice update there. I remember having read of a gadget almost identical to this one about three to four years ago. What made the memory sticky was that it had been declared illegal on even US roads. Sorry, trawled for the link but could not get it.

      I have looked thru two different HMSs in India, both for combat aircraft. One was for fixed wing types and the other for rotary wings. Ruskie design, so that should narrow the field down; I cannot mention the types due to the OSA. Both were pretty rudimentary though rugged. And both were purely hated by pilots flying the respective types. Why if and when we meet personally.

      Insofar as the present one is concerned, IMHO, it is overkill. A reasonably up-to-date map and a smart phone (G Maps and GPS a sine qua non) plus some standard navigation skills are all that is needed by a REAL biker to reach her/his destination. You know, it is something akin to being monogamous/faithful to one partner etc - if you are faithful to your partner/biking, you don't need prophylactics/HMDs

      I for one, would never want a system that does NOT allow me to stray from the beaten path and explore. Serendipity is not electronic...

          too much cost will make such technologies invalid for bikers, though the concept is nice.

          • Lotus is launching a motorcycle: next week ?

            In the face of some quite major financial difficulties, Lotus

            But to bring this thing to fruition, a number of fairly prominent partners have been brought into the deal. Kodewa of Germany (the guys that built the Lotus Le Mans racer), VW Group designer Daniel Simon (he drew a lot of the Bugatti Veyron, the Lightcycle from Tron: Legacy, and took the time to meet up with Top Gear last year), and Holzer Group (futureland materials specialist, who produce carbon fibre, titanium, and aerospace steel).

            Simon says: "With the Lotus C-01, we have only one ambition: to create a unique state-of-the-art machine that carries its brutal forces with elegance and style, a high-tech monster in a tailored suit... Lotus is a glamorous name with a rich history, and the C-01 celebrates it proudly: the shapes of the marvellous Lotus 49 were a main inspiration, and all colour schemes pay homage to iconic Lotus racing liveries, such as the dashing black and gold. The intersection of past and future never fails to fascinate, and so does the unique idea of the C-01."

                    Darren Kuo's Revolver is an air-powered bike. That is, aside from the fact he brought in the intriguing hub steering system, Darren came up with the even greener side of transportation: air-power.

                    We saw many air-powered motorcycles and cars, and there might be some future in this, if a distant one. Unfortunately, in the case of the Revolver, there was no associated technical data, such as speed, range, compressed air storage and the like.

                    Even though some of you might think that this is only CAD rendering, the Revolver really exists and we're so looking forward to hear more about this weird, yet alluring contraption.

                          =============

                          A low cost, recyclable, bicycle helmet for use in conjunction with the London Bicycle Hire Scheme. Manufactured from waste newspapers that circulate the London transport network.

                          Newspapers are collected and blended with water to create a pulp. No bleaching or adhesive is added although an organic and food safe additive is also combined that ensures the helmets water resistance for up to 6 hours of rain. Natural pigments to communicate helmet size is also added.

                          Helmets are intended for short periods of use and can be disposed of back into waste system. The helmet and strap are fully recyclable and can be re-pulped into a new helmet without any degradation of the material.

                              Steve Quam is a 67 year old who suffers from Parkinsons. But this has not stopped him from his love for motorcycles. He still rides high on his motorcycle and bicycle.

                              Five and a half years ago, Quam was diagnosed with Parkinsons, it cannot be cured, so he has set about raising funds and awareness for Parkinson. He suffers from extreme fatigue due to this, which makes riding his cycle or bike, very difficult. He has motorcycle 16000 miles to Alaska and back with his condition.

                              He will be heading out to Colarado where he will take part in a grueling 78 mile mountain bike ride.
