No Hyper edge is infact a lot smoother.
I can cruise around easily in 60-70s all day which is where most of the previous bikes had vib issues.

^Yup, I have the first generation RTR *160* too. The list was just about what all changes happened in the product lifecycle.... When the Hyperedge was launched, I got a test ride for a fair distance. We were told that the engine is now compliant to the more stringent pollution norms, and so we tested it out. Not just me but my other friends who have RTR found it to be much more smoother.

@satyenpoojary - my cousin had bought a hyperedge last year , n i have the pre -hyper rtr . engine feels the same not smoother AT ALL . the 160 with fi was a big letdown with injector failures and fuel pump failures plaquing LOTS of owners at xbhp and outside . not to mention the their speedo consoles that for years having being going kaput ........ i myself have changed mine twice . i thing i like is that hopefully with new design the rear footpegs wont vibrate which was a big embarrasment and makes pillion ride quite uncomfortable . and the 180 and 180 abs are different varients , not an upgrade

I disagree with the bold parts. Firstly the UG1, UG2 etc. were always positive changes and they bettered the bike not only aesthetically but also in the engine dept. They added many features subsequently (digi speedo, DTSi, split handlebars, better alloys, better colors) with power bump and the changes were always appreciated but this one is just south pole in comparison.
Also R15 V2 new colors provide good aesthetic looks. The Pulsar speedlines were also better in looks than the older versions and Bajaj was no vocal about it like TVS is now. And this is a negative change which spoilt everyones mood.

Yes you may say after it is revealed that they are just pilot lamps but the ways TVS showcased it anyone would take it for a dual lamps. Now it can't be if we dont expect just anything out of TVS. What so big about pilot lamps in this era that TVS is being so vocal about it. Complete stupidity and fooling the fans.

Yes it looks disproportionate. It kinda looks like a bigger flame to me. The tank scoops are a direct put on from the Flame. The front fender coloring and 3d logo of 180 takes inspirations from Pulsar 200NS. The Indian Flag logo is a copy from Ducati bikes. Also the front tank scoop and the headlight look weired. Coloring is unimpressive. The hyperedge TVS stickers were so impressive. Much better than this one.

Each one of the proper UGs was a slight bump in peak power and always backed by an overall smoother product.

RTR was an all new product after the old Apache 150 which was launched in late 2008-early 2009. Lets call it Classic.
Hyper-Edge was a mid-life upgrade and there was no bump in power. This was launched in 2011. Fair enough, lets call this UG1. (BTW, Pulsar got a DTSi treatment in UG1, with a 1 bhp bump alongwith increased FE, and an improved gearbox.)
New upgrade is also a mid-life upgrade, no upgrade in horsepower / torque again. BUT, after just 1 year of a mid life upgrade, why did they want to launch another 'non upgrade' with so much fanfare? Lets call it UG2 (Or is it UG1.5?). (BTW, with UG2, Pulsar 150 got an industry first feature: Digital Instrumentation console AND a 0.5 bhp bump)

Clearly, the general public has been spoilt by the way BAL goes about upgrading products. The only BAL bikes which got teasers were the 135LS and 200NS, which are 'ALL NEW' products. Just because other people are giving teasers doesn't mean you should too. They have invested enough in RnD to be able to give worthwhile teasers which do not end in disappointment like this. If you compare the current upgrade to the Speedlines, Speedlines edition never got teasers, neither did Black-Orange combo Pulsars.
    Apache
    RTR
160 with design upgrade with the air scoops
    160 with FI
    160 with rear discs
    180
Hyperedge - Which has a much smoother engine
    180 with ABS

Are you sure these are useless upgrades?

And within this upgrades theres a lot of nifty little changes that happened int he bike. Ask a TVS owner maybe, they would say.
    To cite some
the first generation RTRs and the last generation RTR before the hyperedge has a lot of internal changes. Right from the alloy being used in the drain nut base plate, to small design changes and parts inside the crank case.

    And here you go,
New Racing Throttle Response On The Cards.. - Motoroids

I had mentioned that it were pilot lamps RIGHT after the initial scoops pictures surfaced.... The new LEDs are probably thier biggest design change (which is perhaps why they even teased it with this graphic design illustration)

PS: Karizma was the first bike to have a monogram and not P200NS
PPS: Ofcourse the flag is a ducati ripoff, does that make it bad? The clutch and disk brake cable layout from Pulsars are a ducati ripoff does that make them bad? NO!

I agree on the disproptionate build despite being a RTR fan, I hate the design change. Its a clear rip off to take on the FZ with its BIG bulky tank. Probably even the P200NS is.

But the rest of the subtle changes are pretty neat. Especially the split footpegs. I think these would probably help in dampening the vibes too :P

You know, i won a brand new RTR 180 ABS last month in a facebook contest and there was a question in that quiz as "what do you expect from TVS"
Among a few lines i told them "Id love to be part of their R&D someday and help build locally made indigenous bikes that can go toe to toe with the Foreign maals". I actually thought that line somehow inspired them to pick me as the winner.

Now i don't see that thing happening since TVS just fell two level down on my priority list with this horrible work of theirs.

It would take me less than 3 weeks(if i were working for TVS) to come up with a better design in 3d apps on the existing frame without altering the weight or the design flow of the older RTR.

All they need is to take a look at the Comments/Brickbats that Apache RTR "Fans" are posting on the Fanpage wall.

Volumes might be comparitively low, but get the product right and the returns are much more profitable..
..and yes it can do wonders to the brand in the eyes of the commuters who might not buy the 200+ cc bike.

Yeah right..!! Lets just forget the comment made to the 200 Duke.

But what more could possibly the 160/180 duo accomplish against the Next Gen Pulsars (starting with the P200NS) than that they have accomplised against the "Current Gen Pulsars"..??

Not his fault actually, he was just doing his job.. product/branding decisions are probably made/changed by guys on a much higher paygrade than that guy you spoke to.

I dont know how these guys got the pictures, I couldnt take my mobile inside since it had a camera.

The official there said they are not concentrating on the above 200cc segment as the volumes are really low, they will be focusing on the below 200cc segment only. Though it could be his personal opinion on the company policy. The facility I visited is just production, R&D is in Hosur. When I visited the R&D almost a year ago they said they were working on a above 200cc bike, but no news of that yet.

I gave the guy a earful on the design and engine capacity and blah but obviously he dint care or he cant do anything with the feedback.

Sad to see TVS go the Hero way.
It is this arrogance that has kicked them out from the 3rd spot, another couple of years and they will be kicked out of the top 5 position. TVS is finishing its near, they will only rule the MOPED sales.

Only Rajiv Bajaj is the saviour of the Indian biking, hail Rajiv Bajaj.

    @ Abhishekch

Actually, it looks a lot better than the original product. TVS has to do something right now about this so called beast. The head-unit looks hideous, otherwise. Wonder why no one at TVS took two steps back and checked these yawning gaps and horrid side-profile.

Good work by your friend though...
