When you buy rights to sell a product, you are NOT A COPYCAT. If you just see and manufacture a product like it without buying rights, then you call it COPY. Update your knowledge.

Just for reference, the discs on Buell bikes *are* mounted to the rim, with the caliper on the inside. Unfortunately, Buell was never able (while they made streetbikes, at least) to get the rim-mounted disc to be effective. They only had one disc, and eventually went to an 8-pot caliper in an attempt to get enough friction on it, which only resulted in worse brake fade from heat when used heavily (in one test, the disc actually started bluing from the heat).

Something Hero is probably discovering right about now is that Erik Buell never looks back to past efforts. Once he's "done" with something, he never refers to it again. That's one reason Buell never quite took off: Bikes would be developed and released on market, and then almost never upgraded. The Lightning XB12S was virtually the same from introduction to the day they stopped production, with the only improvements being ones that were manufacturer-wide, like changes to engine internals or newer fork designs which would show up on every model that used that part. So it's more likely they'll be tapping him to come up with new designs, and then Hero will take them in-house and develop them.

That said, I wish I could get a Lightning here.
