To think, they screwed the RD because of 6 bucks!Originally posted by psr View PostPrice of Petrol in the 50s were 0.5/- per liter.....1/- in the 60s and even in 70s were single digit.... may be around 2/- per liter..and became costly in the 80s to 6~ 8/- and doubled to 16~20/- in the 90s...

The problem with RD was some of the badly tuned ones gave as little as 12 Kms per liter...and most mechanics both SVC and way side were seeing a performance TWIN cylinder for the first time...and the worst part was that it had points type Ignition which never stayed true.....couple it with non availability of spares + no mech knowledge + the earlier batch piston rings lasted only 6K Kms...you have the deadly combination to kill the RD....and also the fact 6~8 rupees was still a high amount for a liter of Petrol...If you look at the Rupee and it's true value, you will understand that no one earned less those days compared to to-day...Originally posted by julianpaul View PostTo think, they screwed the RD because of 6 bucks!

I was only joking. Slightly.
I guess back then 6 bucks would be like 60 today. But i was actually referring to yamaha (escorts actually) restricting the bike further by raising the exhaust port. But that too, i guess, was a last ditch effort to save a product they launched which failed simply due to bad timing.
Selling my RD was probably the worst decision i ever made.

Yes you are right that is the reason 250cc Dirt bikes compete in the same class where 450's compete. Because of their light weight they are easily flickable at the corners and the handling is unmatchedOriginally posted by julianpaul View PostIt's supposed to weigh 125kgs, which gives it a p-w ratio of 240hp/tonne which is even higher than the KTM 200's 184hp/tonne.

If ur mentioning about the ORBITAL Corp, they just developed the gdi system for 2stroke.and gave the right to make the kit to others. They don't manufacture or retro fit them. The orbital kits are used in asiian countries like thailand and indonesia (as far as i now) for retrofiting the 2 stroke tuk-tuks over there by a firm called 'envirofit'.Note that the firm is working in india but not on to engines yet. I recall them sayin their retro fitting kits undergoing some homologation testing or something 4 years back . don't know wat hapnd then.Originally posted by psr View PostThe Govt., is famous for knee jerk reaction and is never based on technical evaluation, and feasibility.....so what is banned stays banned...
The second fact why BAL is hesitant to promote the Injection is due to the higher costs involved..in Indian rupees it can amount to 20,000/- approximately per vehicle.....though the two stroke engine is much simpler to manufacture and cheaper to maintain...
An Australian company is actually doing it by installing the injection system to the top head, by getting the top head alone removed from the engine, making the necessary mods ,installing a fuel pump outside, which does not need petrol to cool it, and sets up the ECU for the particular engine. For the lubrication a separate oil line into the injector is used.
Who knows the coming years may see the rebirth of the Fuel Injected Two Strokes...
Depends on the Lobbying and profit margins.
And yes 2strokes r the future (untill we drink last drop of petrol
) because of the fact that the 4strokes have reached their saturation point in cutting off the emissions. And a 2 stoke wit GDI can meet euro 3/4(forgot which one
) straight up frm engine without any emission control device . so with ever strict emission control we can hope for the "2nd COMING".

yup,,,if these old predecessors can still exist,,,why cant a 2 stroke ninja??whats the whole mess..Originally posted by Vignesh vnktrmn View PostIf two-stroke scooters like the scooty teenz and LML can be sold, I don't see the point in the stupid ban on new two stroke bikes by our government

Whoa that's sweet. A Ninja 150 rr, errr, and that too a two stroke with 30 bhp? That's some serious potent s@#t
I guess Kwacker is never gonna let the Indian market climb the CC ladder, with this 30 bhp, two stroke, 150cc seriously, we need to descend on the CC to get this one I guess, truly a radical stuff out here. I mean this is gonna suck the crap out of all four jokers, including me-self
Cheers!

Once upon a time, a guy asked a girl 'Will you marry me?'
The girl said, 'NO!'
And the guy lived happily ever after and rode motorcycles and watched sport on a big screen TV, went fishing and surfing, and played golf a lot, and drank beer and scotch and had tons of money in the bank and left the toilet seat up and farted whenever he wanted.
THE END
