exactly,in reality honda can't beat bajaj in terms of sales .may be in terms of plied up inventories at dealership.having said that honda is really getting agressive about their indian counter-part.Originally posted by vrugonnab View Postand the question remains why do i race?

There is a reason why Honda is getting aggressive in our market and that is we are still count in few markets which has vast potential for growth say next 10 to 20 years. Bajaj really need to get aggressive now, they are not really focussing on commuter segment, which still forms the major chunk of our market. Some how, Rajiv Bajaj always tends to value profitability a lot more compared to sales.Originally posted by sayank10 View Postexactly,in reality honda can't beat bajaj in terms of sales .may be in terms of plied up inventories at dealership.having said that honda is really getting agressive about their indian counter-part.Let's bring down the monster of corruption to it's knees.. please visit http://ipaidabribe.com/

Honda cannot beat Bajaj. The reason is very simple, Bajaj designs the bike by heart while Honda designs it by Brain.
You like Honda for its reliability, resale value but that doesn't mean you like it.
3rd gen pulsar have many problems - Gear, chassis still it sold millions even I have one. I cannot find any new Honda Unicorn on road than Pulsar. People still go for the heart than the brain. Compare the new unicorn with the new 200NS you find the answer.
...but Honda can beat anyone with their Scooters - Activa.

And that alone makes a huge difference maybe not for xBhpians but defintiely to sales numbers.Originally posted by amvj View Post...but Honda can beat anyone with their Scooters - Activa.
The other day a friend of mine just shared with me that recently his retired father had bought an Activa (They already have a car in the family) for the quick commute.. and how impressed both the father and son duo was with the ease of riding that scooter..!!
Sales of automatic Scooters are posied to grow in India.. more than growth of desi performance bikes. Activa is to automatic scooters what the Splendor is for commuter bikes.

But i guess, the chassis of CB twister is different from that of the Shine???Originally posted by Samarth 619 View PostSo, Shine's engine to be under-bored to make it 110cc's is what you want to say? Fine, nothing wrong with it...
But, when their own Twister 110cc is present and gives around 70~ kmpl mileage, why should they touch the Shine's engine anyways? They can tune the 110cc of Twister to give better mileage at the cost of top end power.
as the looks of the YUGA is so similar to Shine's, they might have even used the same chassis...
. And IF the chassis of twister and shine are different then, it plonking the Shine's engine by underboring it to make it 110cc would be more ECONOMICAL for them...
Every BIKE has a lot of speed in it. The trick is getting the speed out of it.

Why should he care about anything else When this is how his peers are faring?Originally posted by vrugonnab View PostThere is a reason why Honda is getting aggressive in our market and that is we are still count in few markets which has vast potential for growth say next 10 to 20 years. Net Profits(Rs. cr)...Dec '11.......Sep '11.......Jun '11.......Mar '11......Total 2011
BAL......................795.19........725.80..... ...711.06.......1,400.39....3632.44
HMC.....................613.03........603.62...... ..557.89.......501.61.......2276.15
TVS.....................056.53........076.51...... ...058.80.......041.68.......0223.52
Maruti..................205.62.........240.44..... ...549.23.......659.86.......1655.15
Mahindra...............662.15........737.38....... ..604.88.......606.54......2610.95
Tata Motors..........173.67.........102.02.........401. 28.......573.34......1250.31
Could not compare with HMSI results because it is not a public listed company, they don't need to make their numbers public. But if they have only overtaken TVS by now, BAL is still a long long long way to go.
Anyways, Honda shouldn't get all excited already since they have only overtaken TVS, whose yearly Net profit is less than BAL's monthly figure.

Just a small correction; HMC (Honda Motor India) is wholesale parts supplier for HMSI & they really don't make any sales; two wheeler manufacturing & sales are done by HMSI, Honda Motorcycles & Scooter India Pvt Ltd.Originally posted by antz.bin View PostHMCSkill is what keeps you on a Motorcycle

Inferior parts *could* be a reason.Originally posted by kaynmantis View PostCould inferior parts be reason behind handsome profit? Asking, as quality parts does not come cheap to manufacture.
Btw. @aargee, I didn't get the "Oh!!! You're perfect then" bit. I thought HMC is Hero Moto Corp and not Honda Motor India. Care to clarify?
But so would:
Not spending crores of ad money on Hrithik, Dhoni, Priyanka and Electronic / print media.
Keeping waiting periods low, managing the supply chain better hence making more sales.
Refreshing products regularly keeping them interesting.
Providing class leading bhp/liter figures on most products in the premium range.
Very little royalty payments (if any).
Part sharing across several high selling models = economies of scale.
Concentrating more on improving exports which typically bring much higher margins.
@RG Even I didn't get that part.
Edit:
I have a little story of brake pad replacement on my Honda Civic.
Since ours was a used car purchase, We decided that we needed to get all 4 brake pads of our car replaced (since nothing else was wrong with the car). We took it to Honda SVC and got a quote of 22k(for parts) + labor.
Checked online and found Nissin (= Honda OEM Brake pads) branded set of 4 brake pads for sale on MANY US based portals for a shade under $90. This is about the same price that Honda USA dealerships sell them for.
Inclusive of shipping to India(and octroi), it costed me ~6500. Got them changed for <7k all inclusive. Does this make Nissin branded pads in US 4 times as inferior to those sold in India? Or is it Honda Siel Cars India fleecing us all in the name of "Quality comes for a price".Last edited by antz.bin; 03-06-2012, 06:05 PM.Advice is a form of nostalgia.
