A nice review probably from the 'First' owner of a CBR500R , I am very happy to read about the low and mid range power. Lets see when it comes to India
(Source - Honda CBR250R Forum : Honda CBR 250 Forums - View Single Post - The 2013 CBR500. )
received mine finally. About to get it on 12th of December but needed to go back home for three weeks urgently so left my bike at the shop.
Received it on 12th of January
They told me that i received the keys of the first red cbr500r in the world
I post this to another local forum about Bikes in Thailand. Do not have time to modify it fully so just posting it here too!
Alright first impressions:
Engine: it is smooth and it has good power starting from 1500 rpm right away and have power everywhere. I liked low and mid range power a lot. It lets you forget which gear you are as it goes all the time smoothly. My bike is smooth as silk even around redline but felt some vibrations when it is neutral. I am doing hard break in so i go to redline. If i see it correctly it redlines 9000 rpm.
Brakes: Brakes are perfect. Even with a single disc which i was suspicious of its stopping power, it has a nice and controlled braking. Rear brakes are really cool. so soft bite! Never see ABS light yesterday!
Transmission: it is a Honda standard. Positive and reliable feeling. It is a little loud though if you cannot find the prefect rpm. I need time with the tranny which is normal.
Comfort: Wind buffeting is less than i imagined and fairings keep the wind out. It was calm when it is 175 km like i was going 120 with cbr250. Seats are comfy for me but i have a steel ass after 24 years of riding bikes. Mirrors are very good but too big for city riding. I hit to another mirror between cars. first to go really as you cannot see anything but teh sky while changing the lanes fast.
Top speed: i reached 175 kmh easily two up and it looks like it will reach more soon
Acceleration: It accelerate fast from any rpm at any gear Cool for city riding. Bike is square but i revs fast and by the time to reach 8500 rpm, you have enough speed.
Noise: Bike is as mute as a sewing machine really. But, there might be a cool sound after break in as the bike is new. Will change the pipe asap!
Instrument cluster: It is nice and neat but i need time to fully adjust myself to rpm counter. A nice touch: once you turn the bike off, the light on the cluster fade away slowly and nicely!
Lights: More that enough, But i prefer both lights running when it is on low beam. I will get it modified soon.
Handling: The bike handles like a dream. Really surprising for that price. It changes the directions almost telepathic! So light and nimble. You can lean with confidence but i am waiting for tires to get ready as they mostly need couple of hundred kilometers to be sticky. The easiest bike i have ever ridden.
Suspension: it is great! I was expecting less but it handles the potholes and mid turn bumps easily. It is comfy too! it really absorb the potholes and bumps.
Now, i am going to Honda Bigwing - official Honda big bike shop in Thailand - to change the first oil - 120 km - as yesterday could not find time to do that. I am breaking it hard, lets see how it will effect performance!
I will add more once i ride it more.
I am the one with red riding jacket next to the first red cbr500 in the middle!

That is the USP for which i am willing to trade my 250 for... but the best part is that the 500 is just as fuel efficient as the 250.. and yields 27kmpl as per rider reports. Spoke to the Honda rep here and he said the 2013 colors for the 250R will be dispatched in the next 3 to 4 months time and that the new 500R is still being decided upon for the Indian market.Originally posted by harsh_66328 View PostEngine: it is smooth and it has good power starting from 1500 rpm right away and have power everywhere. Same user has updated his post run-in(Hard run-in) information
Honda CBR250R Forum : Honda CBR 250 Forums - View Single Post - The 2013 CBR500.
After 1200 km of ride on my cbr500, i get an average of 20 km per liter but i ride my bikes always hard guys. So someone might get 25 km per liter easily from it.
Everything is running good on bike and no glitches so far.
It is pretty comfy in terms of ergonomics and shocks.
I have seen 184 kmh indicated two up on the bike and i checked it with gps and it shows 174.8 kmh for 184 kmh indicated. And it is not shaking etc on that speeds and you reach 180 kmh indicated easily.
So cbr500 can show a 192 kmh maximum indicated on 9050 rpm redline which is 183 kmh max gps speed.
It is a 183 kmh bike not 170 kmh bike as specced. So things can get blurry
Anyhow considering upgrading cbr250 to cbr500 will be very happy imoGot a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.

Honda is already manufacturing and selling the 500s in Thailand.Originally posted by Satyamzma View PostSo These 500cc Bikes are not coming to India..instead Honda is developing a 400cc Bike for Asia!
They are priced between 195k to 205k Thai Baht.Advice is a form of nostalgia.
Dispensing it is a way of fishing the past from the disposal, wiping it off, painting over the ugly parts and recycling it for more than it's worth.

The 400cc is a multi cylinder setup right ? how would it compare with a single cylinder 500 ??

The 400's are same as the 500's, i.e. parallel twins!Originally posted by krish2778 View PostThe 400cc is a multi cylinder setup right ? how would it compare with a single cylinder 500 ??

Its just a bored down version of the 470cc, 500's!
Infact with the shorter stroke, the 400's actually might be more involving to ride with not too much difference in power (given that the difference is barely around 70cc)_________________________

Yet another review of the 500R.
cbr500r First Ride and Impressions - Honda CBR500R Forum : CB500F and CB500X Forums
It is now over three weeks with my bike and 13xx km.
I absolutely love it.
Great handling and balance for that price and enough power.
Enough torque to go from 1500 rpm to all the way up. It is accessible good power. Still, engine could be done to generate more power as 47 hp is less for me
It redlines at 9050 - 9100 rpm and makes 192 km indicated at 9050 rpm at 6th gear according to my calculations. I made an indicated 184 km two up and it showed 174.8 km at gps so the bike can do a maximum of 184 km gps again according to my calculations.
It runs great on highway. Power is everywhere when you need it and even with two up, climbing to 180 kmh is not that hard. I have not tested 0 - 100 m yet.
I commute with it in rush Bangkok traffic around 30 km - you cannot imagine how it is like
- with my cbr500 everyday and i can do all the moves and acrobatics like i was doing with my cbr250. Really no compromises and no difference than riding a cbr250 in the city. But, i ride faster now between the cars and scissor easily
And, it actually feels lighter and smaller than a cbr250.
Brakes are great especially rear one, such a great bite it has. Front might be a little stronger for my taste but still more than OK.
Suspensions are tuned well. Bike behaves well on bumps and it is comfy at the same time. Shocks could be done a little bit harder but then you lose the comfort. For that price, i am really surprised for the balance and handling of the bike. it is pretty nimble and agile, turn ins are easy and bike can lean well Only a cm left on my tires untouched by asphalt
I got 20 km/l until now as i am doing a hard break in but i really ride hard
It is easy to get a 25km/l without pushing yourself too much.
No rattles no shakes so far.
Instrument cluster looks fine and it is readable even in harsh speeds. It shows speed, rev, fuel, current fuel consumption, average fuel consumption and fuel consumption of trip A - means can shows the total fuel consumption for the whole trip. And, once you turn the bike off, the white lights of it fade away slowly and nicely.
Bike is so silent nearly mute. It is getting dangerous in the traffic as other riders do not notice me. I am buying a Moriwaki pipe made in Japan from Honda Bigwing Bangkok as it si the only pipe you can install to cbr500 right now in this world apart from soem crappy pipes from Thai manufacturers. I have seen akrapovic is also doing one but no pics in their site. Moriwaki full system costs around 1000 usd but it looks really cool man.
Overall, i am a happy rider and i am having a blast everyday. cannot wait for the working hours finish to ride my bike
I will post my impression time by time with full objectivity as Honda is not my fathers company or i do not lie just because i own it so i will never hesitate to criticize the bike if needed. But so far only criticism like another owner said in our local forum in Thailand is: 'Not enough time to ride the bike
'
thanks.
