The question is not why shouldn't the common man get an RTR/Fz as the product justifies it's price but why the P150 is still selling?
The P150 is not selling as large as it was selling some months/years back..!! Those which you see must be previous models i.e those DTSi ones..!!

Nobody is questioning Pulsars practicality, If pulsar wasnt a good bike BAL wouldnt have been where they are now. The question mark however is on the Q word.... Quality. Bajaj bikes are cheaper, parts are inexpensive perhaps, but they break down more often than others. When Bajaj started its premium bikes it dint have any major competition other than HH. HH was numbero uno then, it still is now... just that there are others who have jumped in, the Q word has become the criteria. Bajaj has slipped for 2nd month in a row, looks like trend is continuing. It will be interesting to see what will BAL do it recorver. Bail out package from govt????

Its heartening to see yamaha put up some good numbers, they deserve it.
    Exactly..!! Very rightly said..!!

Here in Bangalore, the P150 is soon becoming known as "dowry gaadi". Such is the P150s popularity in villages that it has replaced the erstwhile CD100/Splendor to become the "dowry vehicle material" of choice in Karnataka. Don't know about other parts of the country though. This increased offtake of the P150 in rural areas has somewhat decreased it's popularity among the urban youth here who now consider this once iconic motorcycle uncool and too common.

And the slide continues further.. Now Bajaj falls to number 4

Bajaj Auto, the two-wheeler maker that ruled Indian roads in the not-too-distant past, may face a rough ride with the December sales figures indicating that it has been pushed to the fourth position by its rivals.

For those of you too lazy to click the above link here are the numbers for Dec sales

          HH 2,09,727
          HMSI 87,164
          TVS 72,355
          BAL 62,043 (wtf!!!!!!)

Tsk, tsk. How the mighty have fallen, BAL seems to be paying the price for being too lethargic. We have been waiting forever for the Ninja, no sign of that. The 150cc + launches are moved to the second half of 2009. (As per the press con a week back) What next - Yamaha overtaking BAL in 2009 ? I wouldnt be surprised ..... Wake up BAL, wake up

You want BAL to launch Ninja to boost its sales

I agree with you on this! It would be wise , if "tumhara" bajaj pre-pones its plans of 150 cc segments.

its really bad happening to Bajaj right nw which I think it admits.
The Bajaj Strategy to kill the 100cc market with offering a very delicious 125cc engines at prices even below sme of the 100cc bikes hav not shown the result which was expected. Bajaj had even tried to offer the 125cc in Platina so that it could reach even deeper but I think it has been of no gd. HH leads only because it has a large chunk of buyer who still prefer to stick to 100cc. Yes HH has cme up with new bikes but still a lot has been changed since YAM came into scene. Bringing new sprt bikes into market created a new rift for the 150cc segment. it was pricey but still it took away many buyers who were ready to pay the price. TVS slowly kicking with RTR. HOnda & SuZuki have started to brng gd global bikes & scoots like Aviator, GS150. this will futher create a dent in Bajaj.
Bajaj, as I believe is not sitting idle , its just making things out for a new 150 launch. As Pulsar is knwn to b getting upgraded every year or so. The P200 must cme with an sportier FI engine which will bang the R15 in any terms. P220 is just ok, must dealt ith caution, Bajaj should sort ant glitches with that.
And yes, Bajaj shold brng sme global excelence product to change the rift. Its time to show other companies what its capable of by brnging NINJA 250,636, and an KTM to brng back the charm related with its name.
I still hav trust in Bajaj that will cme up an fight like it had done earlier.

Make that the Ninja, (m)any KTM model(s), the 200 DTSFI, the Pulsar range updates with visual differences between models, a better looking Avenger 200, the Sprint etc etc to boost sales !

don't forget what bajaj said when they were buying majority stake in KTM - they wanted to develop bikes between 125-250 cc with Bajaj & KTM technology collaboration.... apart from all the cheap tricks (discovers, xcd variants) they might be working on this in full swing... it's been about an year since they said this!
