  • Protest Against Police for Helmet Hunt

The mishap occurred as the bike rider, who was not wearing helmet, tried to evade a routine police checking and veered into the path of the KSRTC bus. The traffic police tried to stop them but the panicked youth lost control of the vehicle, leading to a collision with the bus.

The police used teargas and lathis to disperse violent locals who took out a protest march from Thiruvannur to Panniyankara [Kozhikode,Kerala]police station on Sunday evening over the death of two youths in a road accident. The youths were killed during a ‘helmet hunting’ drive of the police on Saturday night. Five police officials, many locals and mediapersons including cameramen of TV channels were injured in the violence.

What is happening with this country, Police Blamed for a person's mistake and Demanding to stop Helmet Hunting?
    News Update:

    Its Off-Topic, and is complicated.

Violence was an organised one with anti-social elements behind it.

And Police said in the Media that there was no official helmet Inspection that day[Which is little hard to believe too]

Don't really undertand what's the correlation is between wrong people in power and this incident.

IMO, it is purely the fault of the rider. It's unfortunate he crashed and died, but he was not wearing a helmet and trying to evade cops. I don't see how the police are responsible for it, unless they jammed a stick in his wheel or something (i have seen it happen once, personally).
I think the people are very stupid and had no real basis of protesting. What are they saying? Keep the rule but don't enforce it? How is that rational? You can't suspend government officials doing their duty within bounds. I'm not saying all cops are good cops, but at least in this case they sound like 100% innocent to me.
Additionally, the "protestors" got violent and IMO the cops had no other option than to use force.

The fellow only has himself to blame, as for the mob a bunch of retards (to put it politely)
Beware of Bread, don't say I didn't warn you!
More than 98 percent of convicted criminals are bread eaters !
Statistics show that more than 75 % of violent crimes are committed within 24 hours of eating bread !
Bread is known to be extremely addictive. Subjects deprived of bread and given only water, actually begged for bread after just two days !
Bread has been proven to kill. Scientists have now uncovered alarming evidence that 100% of the people who eat bread will eventually die !

To be polite, I agree with you.

The protesters are telling police came out of nowhere to block the rider and he lost control, Which is hard to believe,
And unfortunately it is a thumps up for the so called retards not wear a helmet.

Just to give you all a perspective, the fact that wearing a Helmet is mandated by law is largely unknown or mostly ignored by most populace of this country, including the police. Is it stupid, yes. But fact remains that all over this country this law is not put into effect, the populace is only going to toe the line they are forced to toe. What are you guys expecting??

And this is generally true for everywhere in the country. For example you are also required to carry a PUC certificate for your vehicle ON the vehicle (original copy since its valid for only 6 months). Apart from Pune I have never yet come across any place in this country where this rule is enforced. The first time I was fined in Pune (when I first shifted) I had the exact same reaction, bull shit I will carry a PUC certificate! Here in bangalore people do not even know what full form of PUC is. The people of the small town are simply reacting the same way, more extremely since some youth died.

I feel that police cannot one day wake up and enforce a law that was a law in the books never on the roads. This is unfair to people. Carry out an intensive awareness campaign for one week and then start fining people. No need to tell people that Helmets are for your safety, telling them that they will be fined from next week onwards for not wearing a helmet works just fine.

People will always find a way to slip by the law, in Bombay so many taxi drivers simply slip under the seat belt of their cars without even putting the clip in, it is enough for the police then it is enough for the driver, who the hell cares about safety? And do not even get me started on the Helmets they wear in bangalore, so many full face helmets the jaw protector rests on the fore head, so many people wear industry grade cap helmets (yellow ones u see at construction sites), most police wears just a hard white cap helmet with no straps and no visor. And dont get me started on the helmets that most poser RE riders wear, they are the biggest joke. And here you all are bashing illiterate village people...

the co-relation is that, ppl in power does not only mean politicians in power, but any person or group of person or mob that can have the power of arm twisting

just because a lot of ppl are not aware about a certain law, does not mean it is the responsibility of police to make it aware. if somebody is not aware it is their fault and not of police. if somebody needs awareness campaign just for simple things like helmet and PUC, they are retards.

This crowd should be manhandled the worst way possible, and I won't shed a tear. Use tear gas, use water cannon, use whatever you can.

They have no other work but to dance on roads for any excuse. The sad agitated parents must have created a noise with their relatives and neighbors and all of them thought, yeah why not, let's create some ruckus. Let's make our presence felt by getting some police officers suspended. My question is: was the deceased actually related to all the people creating this ruckus?

@ plasmabhai: I agree with most of the part you said, but seriously: If that guy was unaware of the rules, he would've stopped on Police's signal, considering it to be routine checking.
The nut made a escape race out of it, so how is Police responsible?

All those who protest there are welcome to Pune, come and see how the police men jump on to your running bike and take the key!
Yes, nobody will ask for helmet here, wear it only if you want. Just carry a Licensee, and PUC and you are safe(only from place though)!

One college of me who is very highly educated taught me last day, helot is required only on highways. No accident will happen in City of Pune, You are any way riding slow!

12 years of driving in Pune, and i am yet to see a mama "jump on to your running bike and take the key" - they are just not fit enough to react that fast :P
Jokes apart, without any provocation from the driver, cops rarely perform such stunts.. For me, checking has happened most of the times at signals or at barricades

btw congrats on your sale to the highly educated college

seriously ? Helmet required or not. It's for our own safety. i hope this has been imparted by educated college.. As said by Red_Redemption here they are not fit to react that fast. When you have all docs and know you havent jumped any signal or broken any traffic law IMO you should promptly stop if mama jumps in front ( for the sake of his life and yours too)
This incident is a far fetched provocacy on the part of rider shouldn't have happened.

EDIT: If no accidents happen here, atleast wear a helmet to curb the respiratory complications which may be caused by excessive pollution in this city
