So after the mayhem that was caused the authorities are mulling over this particular method to implement the law.

    No petrol without helmet..!!

Helmets must to buy fuel - The Hindu

I personally feel that this just might turn out to be a good measure in implementing a law we all know saves lives. Sure there would be initial discomfort but this is one of the fastest and most simple and cost affective ways to ensure that people are not only aware of the law but they obey it as well.

And before someone replies saying this is stupid then let me inform them beforehand that many multinational companies in India have a rule for employees that to park their two wheelers in the office parking they must be wearing a Helmet. It is this rule which forces many of my friends in Pune to wear a helmet rather than the law. Whatever works in this case because not wearing a helmet totally adds to the death statistic, one of the proofs for that, read this article -> Michigan sees 18% spike in biker fatalities - Motorcycle news : General news - Visordown

The office thingy isn't effective at all. Its my observation in Chennai as well as Bangalore that people wear helmet till the gates of the IT park (where guards check your IDs and the helmet) and then the helmets go back under the elbows/on the handlebars till they park their vehicles.

There is absolutely no replacement for commonsense. People who think that helmets are a nuisance need to get out of their idiotic mentality, and no amount of laws or rules or policing can change change their attitude. The day when people realize that helmets are actually useful, that day we will need no lays, no checking and no cops.

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

If cops are shot and bashed up for checking for helmets. What hope do we have that a poor defenceless petrol pump attendant will have the guts to stop someone from buying petrol without a helmet. It is in anycase the job of the govt. and govt. servants (police) to enforce the law, not for petrol pump attendants.
Biking is not about what you have between your legs, its all about how well you use it!!!!!!!

Offenders will wear a helmet only while going to fill petrol, after that remove the helmet and hang it on the RVM.

              Haha! Very true!
Frankly, how uncomfortable is it to wear a helmet? I have always ridden with a helmet on, and I feel extremely uncomfortable without a helmet - i just can't withstand the dust in my eyes and I feel difficulty in breathing at speeds above 60. Even for the poser-boys....Dudes! Wake up - you can protect your face & hair from dust & grime with a helmet!!!

Saar, helmets disturb my spiked hair. I spent 500-700 bucks to get my colored "long" hair set properly. Do you think I'll wear a stupid helmet which puts all my efforts in vain? I'll keep a helmet on the RVMs/handle/wherever and put it on ONLY if required (read cops).

Hackdrag - Buddy, I was merely doing/trying to do/post what posers do.

@BBS - Advising them bandanas/sunglasses/helmets? Have you tried talking to anyone of them (posers)? They don't even talk straight!

@DS...well, the only accessories I see on poserboys are sunglasses and earphones. Blind, Deaf and Maniac.

I would like to ask how you will differentiate normal person/rider with poser ?

Mostly person just posing here & there with his bike/car making noise is called as poser .

                          But

In small cities the guys using helmets are really few . As mostly city is covered with some 8/10 km from one end to other .
And mostly peoples from college going youngster to office going mens travel some 4/5 km from one side .
And no good stores are there in small cities for helmets & not everyone do eshopping . Also roads are not big .
So to save from sun / dust most of them uses sunglasses . Some of them use caps also .
                          So are they posers ?

In big cities guys ( rich one's ) get big bike , even it is really hard to use all horses of there bikes on road . They ride with it on highway or on small road . Are they posers ?

Or those guys completely packed with the protective things called as 'Gears' , but have some loud noisy exhaust / filters & irritating others . Are they posers ?

Or those which have stock regular bikes ( means some 100/200 cc bike found mostly on roads with no loud noise ) but using some HID or bright smd led pilots & riding everywhere shining them are they posers ?

Or simply the one's with normal bike no extra thing to it , but cleans it daily & like it to shine where ever it go . Are they posers ?

I think its offtopic but a good topic to get views of peoples . Mods if possible make different thread for it , if you thinking of deleting it for reason of offtopic .

                            @aboveall:

My point in the above post was that even the poser-boys can benefit from wearing a helmet, not just the mango-person (aam-aadmi) - and I specifically meant at the ones who buy a bike just to mod it and show off. Speaking of your point about posers, I'd say most of the definitions mentioned by you are true.
                            As I'd put it,
the guys with obnoxiously loud exhausts and shocking horns,
the guys who light up their bikes like a christmas tree with LEDs,
the ones who use HIDs on regular reflectors, blinding the oncoming traffic,
the ones who zip through packed traffic caring a damn if they scratch the paint off your fenders,
the ones who dart across the road without checking for oncoming traffic,
the ones who believe that the road was built solely for their personal pleasure,
                            - they are all posers. In short - somebody who emphasizes too much on style without a care for their own/other's safety and discomfort - they are all posers.

As I said previously - there are a thousand lame excuses for not wearing a helmet. But there is only one, genuine, strong and compelling reason to wear one. A person can make a thousand excuses for not wearing a helmet - no laws can force him to wear one. The only thing which works is one's own conscience and common sense.
And I beg your pardon, even the smallest of towns stock decent Steelbird / Vega / Studds helmets. Who said helmets should only be LS2 AGV or ARAI?

Biking is not about how many Km/h you put on your Speedo. It's about how many miles you put on your Odo. Ride Safe, Ride Long!

It's the true definition of a poser. All he wants is attention and nothing else and will do anything to grab it.
The attitude of people about helmet should change. The thought that helmet is for own protection and safety rather than the cops standing in streets.
Once that thought comes to everyone there is no need of any law. But its something impossible as not everyone thinks the same.

Bokaro is my native place and the railway station is at one corner of the city and a market called Chas at diagonally the opposite end. The distance between these 2 places is merely 14 kms.
                                This explains above_all's point.

BUT, most people (employed ones) wear a helmet. You can see many people in the sabzi mandi (vegetable market) in the "hatia" buying vegetables with their helmets strapped on! They're too lazy to open it, but I'm glad at least they wear it.

(Seat belts are a different story altogether in my native. Though my dad wore a helmet ever since he had an LML Vespa to the Splendor to the CBZ Super Sprint, he never wore seat belts until I forced him recently.)

P.S - Studds seems to be the most famous brand in my place and almost everyone has Studds helmets. My dad has a Studds Ninja full face.
                                Got a $5 head? Get a $5 helmet.
