Re: Roayl Enfield Cafe Racer to be officially unveiled next Month!
Royal Enfield begins producing the Continental GT 535 at Oragadam
The Continental GT 535 is Indian retro motorcycle maker Royal Enfield’s latest product and it has already hit production at the new factory in Oragadam, near Chennai. The GT535 will first be launched in UK next month, after which it could be launched in India during Diwali. Last year, just before Diwali, Royal Enfield launched the revamped Thunderbird 350 and 500 twins. This year’s Diwali could see the company launching the Continental GT 535.The bike will be the highest priced Royal Enfield to be sold in India. An ex-showroom price of about 2 lakhs to 2.2 lakhs is what we think the GT 535 will be pegged at. For that kind of money, motorcycles like the Honda CBR250R and the KTM Duke 390 are available. So, what does Royal Enfield have with the GT 535 to get sportsbike buyers to stand up and take notice? For starters, you have the very retro cafe racer styling, that mixes old world charm and a sporty appeal.
The cafe racer styling includes a long fuel tank, rear set footpegs, clip-on handlebars and a seat that allows for a racy riding position. While the styling is one move that could get motorcycling enthusiasts on board for the Continental GT 535, the motorcycle also comes with a range of mechanical and suspension changes to justify a higher price tag. The 5 speed gearbox is retained and so is the LHS gear shift and RHS rear brake pedal. The 535cc engine, a bored out version of the 500cc fuel injected UCE motor, powers the GT 535 and this engine outputs more power and torque. Similarly, suspension is revised with Paioli gas charged shock absorbers at the rear. The frame is also a new item, with Harris Engineering having provided a double cradle unit. Due to these changes, the Continental GT 535 is expected to be not just more powerful, but also a sweeter handling bike.

Re: Roayl Enfield Cafe Racer to be officially unveiled next Month!
good for the company...
though being a cafe racer i believe that this bike deserved a v -twin engine like the ones made in the previous era..
35 bhp is a serious uprgrade from the measly 19.8 and 27 bhp from 350cc and 500c models respectively
the top speed would definitely be in the north of 150 kph for this badass machine

Re: Roayl Enfield Cafe Racer to be officially unveiled next Month!
Hmm...never saw this page! Anyways, about a month ago I saw a red GT at Chennai by-pass when I was returning from college towards porur. I went to have a look nearby and the rider accelerated. This got me a little red, and I chased him all the way till porur toll gate(Not rash riding). The bike was pretty silent, since I assume RE's are audible when above 80kmph. At one stretch I did 137kmph and he was still a little ahead. So I guess the top speed must be 140+. The exhaust pipe was upswept and black in color. The bike is definitely not for touring. It has pure cafe racer styled forward leaning position. I could literally see the rider getting up when we reached the toll gate.Last edited by harishkumarko; 08-29-2013, 06:29 PM.Tour De Thekkady

Don't know if this is only me but for this class of motorcycles (read cafe racers) - is the riding posture always this aggressive ?
From the pic above it seems we would need to stretch a long way forward the tank to reach the clip-ons though not sure how is it in real world.
But this will take a toll on our back and doesn't look ideal for touring which has been RE's forte.

Yes the posture is aggressive. It will depend on the rider's build on the reach required for him/her. For a lot of guys who are already comfortable riding R15, this shoudl not be much of a difference in riding posture.Originally posted by nelson_sanjoy View PostDon't know if this is only me but for this class of motorcycles (read cafe racers) - is the riding posture always this aggressive ?

Cafe Racers were never meant for touring, they were meant for a dash between two points. Its nice that RE is looking into creating a different segment in its portfolio and market. Unfair to be compared with the other products in the line upImperfect human knowledge may be a bumpy, pot-holed street but its the only road to wisdom worth taking . . .
