2015 KTM RC390 First Ride Review

Nother review of RC390. " firm seat makes it easy to move around on, but its hardness grew tiresome by the end of our street ride". KTM has a liking for firm seats I guess.

Looks nice, the projectors look like they're halogen and retro fitting hid projectors could be a little troublesome. The front mudguard looks cheap. The beak or tongue is kind of growing on me know.

Beware of Bread, don't say I didn't warn you!
More than 98 percent of convicted criminals are bread eaters !
Statistics show that more than 75 % of violent crimes are committed within 24 hours of eating bread !
Bread is known to be extremely addictive. Subjects deprived of bread and given only water, actually begged for bread after just two days !
Bread has been proven to kill. Scientists have now uncovered alarming evidence that 100% of the people who eat bread will eventually die !

Tom: Aren't you scared you'll kill yourself if you crash?
Burt Munro: No... You live more in five minutes on a bike like this going flat out than some people live in a lifetime.

First ride impressions video from Motorcycle.com of KTM RC390:

I guess, for the indian market: engine wise more or less or major issues have been identified and sorted out (i.e. engine oil leakage and coolant vanishing thanks to faulty gaskets).

Now the only major concerns with the first lot of RC series will be:

                * Possible fairing panel gaps and possible panel noise on the RC series due to nuts and bolts coming off which some of the naked 200 & 390 KTMs are still facing.
                * Alloy wheel breaking: which i have a strong suspicion with poor metallurgy, heat treating and manufacturing process of the alloys itself. The explanation given by Schumi WRT the issue in hand on Overdrive magazine doesn't make sense! An interesting discussion to look at: http://www.team-bhp.com/forum/motorbikes/154536-analysis-ktm-duke-390-alloy-wheel-cracking-problem.html
                * Poor electrical wiring which has often lead to the battery terminal wires breaking off (Mostly older lots).

I sincerely hope that Bajaj-KTM addresses these quality issues quickly as they already have the right set of products for the indian market. A complete "Bang for Buck", so long as they are able to iron out some of the remaining irritants. They will than absolutely dominate the 200 and sub 400cc category in India.

                Cheers,
