@icemang : Totally agree with your analysis, this is what I have been saying everyone. But I think it is on the road price mentioned in UK website, not ex-showroom, so the ex-showroom in UK would be lesser.

Edit : Just checked, it is OTR price in UK incl everything (20%VAT etc)

Daytona seems to be priced a bit on the expensive side, bigg disappointment . . .

Some facts and figures for the ongoing rants about inflated prices. Disclaimer: I am NOT a Triumph advertiser haha

I just downloaded the brochures of each of these bikes from the Triumph UK website. Each brochure mentions the price in GBP. Then, I converted the price to INR via xe.com

Now, we can compare correctly. I am NOT including RTO, insurance etc in the narrative as these rates vary crazily in our crazy country...

I was gratified to see that the Bonnie, T 100 and Thruxton are priced LESSER in India than in the UK. So, the rumour that the company will tolerate a hit on their margins on these bread and butter models was correct.

The Street and Speed Triple are more or less the same in India and the UK. Even the Daytona R is about equal. Again, a fantastic proposal by the company.

The Rocket III, 800 XC and 800 Explorer are obviously direct CBUs and hence the immense price variation between the UK and Indian prices on account of the punishing customs duty structure. But if these are CKDs then the company is being smart to recover the margins lost on the earlier ones. For example, the sale of just one Rocket III will balance the margins for 5.3 Bonnies sold at a PROFIT of 5% over the UK price. Work out the math; I just did.

Now, I read a lot of members complain about the "high" price of the Daytona R. The facts are in front of you. Please analyse them and then articulate a diatribe against the company. On each Daytona R, when the GBP and INR prices are compared, the company will make ONLY Rs 62,617/-. This is just a measly 5.49% profit over the announced price! Where one sees Samsung make profits to the tune of more than 200% per fone, where is 5.49% and that too on an item which will be sold in vastly lesser numbers than Galaxies. This is absolutely brilliant pricing for such a bike especially considering the GBP vs INR value dissimilarity. If I had wanted a Daytona R, I would have camped outside the Triumph showroom with my cheques/cash/family jewellery etc till the bike was delivered to me. Imagine, earning a profit of just about 5.5%, on a CKD bike of such quality and being sold for such small numbers. Hats off, Mr Sumbly.

Why we as Indians have been hit really hard is on account of the depreciation of our currency vis-a-vis the basket of popular global business currencies - the USD, GBP and EUR. For example again, in Jan 2012, when Triumph announced the price of the Bonnie as Rs 5.5 lacs, the rupee was at about 83 per GBP. Now, the rupee is at 101 per GBP as of today i.e a depreciation of almost 22%. But the price announced today at Rs 5.7 lacs is just 3.6% higher than in 2012 versus a currency dip of 22%. I don't know how the company has managed to overcome this hurdle but it has done it.

I had heard a bit about Vinod Sumbly from an industry source and it seems he has pulled the proverbial rabbit out of the hat with this pricing structure. I can see no flaws in it, any which way I turn it around. So, can we moan fairly about inflated prices is the question I want to throw around.

A relook at CKD and an analysis of how part costs for export are affected by currency value changes of source vs destination country will reveal the Triumph pricing plan to be a stroke of genius.



P.S. Don't flame me, flame and blame our nation's low productivity for the increased prices!

But why would a person going for a naked bike would opt for a super-sports bike ?
This thing mainly depends on the person choice.
For example, I would go for a naked over a SS even if the price would be the same..
But yea, a cheaper Daytona would surely be a boon for the lovers

That 10.6K GBP is OTR price. The OTR price in Bangalore would hit 13.2L+. So, yes I still believe it's expensive especially when it costs just $13.5K in US which translates to 8.4L INR (Not sure why it's more expensive in its homeland). I believe the main thing that has p***ed most people is the way they have bloated the price of Daytona compared to the earlier estimate especially when it's the first ever true middle weight super sport that's going to be being sold in India

non R daytona at 10.5 L will work really well.
Many customers buying 1L naked bikes will instead go for the Daytona.
and a handsome difference of 6L compared to 1L super sports is appreciable, when we think again.
And those naked lovers forced to buy 1L nakeds may just settle for street triple and save some 2+ L

Apart from the Daytona, all other bikes are reasonably priced (in my opinion)
But as the Daytona was he bike many were hoping to get, it sure will hurt Triumph.
hope they do come with the non R model and price well below the persent one.

Actually 675R costs 10599 pounds in UK which translates to 10.8L!! Still think 11.4 is expensive??? Had it been through CBU, it would be around 20L (Not to mention it is illegal for sub 800cc to come through CBU route! )

The only surprise is Rocket III is 2L cheaper than what was quoted in 2011!

11.4 Lakhs ex-showroom, add 13.32 tax in Bangalore + 22k Insurance, on-road stands 13.32 lakhs in KA. Irony of awaiting patiently since year+, the price has tattered hopes of many, mine is annihilated to crest.

We call it CKD, so how does it work differently for different models with a variation of 2 lakh+ on Daytona. The only savior would be the Standard Daytona, do we really need Ohlins suspension, quick shifter etc. when we do not even have dedicated race tracks except a couple in the country.

Triumph be the savior and launch the Standard model to enlighten some spirit on prospective buyers which hold the gravitated passion but not the premium moolah!

The regular 675 will be about 1-1.5L less. Still very expensive and deviates highly from what they had mentioned at the 2012 expo. Not all models have deviated that much though. So, why the Daytona?

With CBU prices for CKD units, Triumph seems to be determined to do exactly the opposite of what its name suggests i.e. FAIL!!!!!

We had conveyed this feedback to Triumph officials, including their MD, about the Daytona and we DO believe that they'll launch the non-R version of the Daytona soon, which will be priced cheaper than the R.
