• Two Wheelers set to become cheaper - Budget 2014: xBhp News

The Finance Minister has just announced that the Excise Duty on Two Wheelers has been reduced to 8% from 12%.

The reduction in Excise Duty by 4 percentage points may or may not bring down the prices. We still await word from the manufacturers whether they will be passing on the benefit to the end consumer, or not.

P. Chidambram

"To give relief to the automobile industry, which is registering unprecedented negative growth, I propose to reduce excise duty,"

But this is going to be a short lived joy... with no increments in direct or indirect tax structure and introduction of new subsidies... the fiscal deficit will widen and post election... taxes have to be increased again... this is just a populist budget before election....

It's only for 3-4 months till New budget is proposed by New government and knowing our manufacturers, I don't think they'll lower prices for us.
Ahh well otherwise, if there is any new tax reform that'll make z1000 available for just 6L₹ ,I'll vote for congress my entire life

That 4% waiver can mean a lot to the buyer. A 50k OTR vehicle can show up upto 2k discount flat post this decision! But, only if the manufacturers decide to pass the benefit to the end user. They may/may not do so.
If they indeed slash prices, I guess one on the lookout should buy the vehicle (car/bike) in these 4 months before elections.

Very unlikely that the benefits would be undertaken by the buyer. It seems more likely that these would be more of a relief exercise to manufacturers to increase their margins on their vehicles.

Nonetheless, it seems it is going to be a very short term measure. The only way i see it extending is it gets huge feedback in terms of sales and the industry growth inclines by a very high margin.

I think barring Honda, everyone will slash prices. Honda has been on a roll with great growth stats. The other sellers on the other hand would do anything to shore up falling numbers. This is true of the entire auto market in general

Tata has already announced to slash prices from tomorrow, hope the two wheeler companies follow their path.

PS : This coming from someone who has already booked a bike and awaiting delivery and hoping the final amount to be paid will be lesser now.

For this, take it from the dealer in writing. Your booking date was before the budget but obviously the vehicle would be the new lot. So, get your black dook with a good discount and invest the savings in lenses/gear.

Haha, that savings will be gone in petrol expense in no time Btw, I had signed somewhere that the current price (during booking) is not final and any change in the price before delivery will be reflected on the date of the purchase. Obviously they added it for the case of increase in price but it should apply here as well But, but it will help only if KTM decides to slash price

Let me ask a stupid question here. I have booked a Ninja 650 and awaiting delivery. this cut in excise duty may not be applicable for me right since its a CKD. But if there is some localization of parts will it be applicable??

Oh my! Is this really going to happen?
And last night, i prayed in my dreams for the same, so that i can afford to buy a 1.5L bike.
I see a hope of my prayers going to be answered..

+1 to shadowgun, if this does happen, i would vote for congress my entire life too.
