Secondly competition offers far better VFM, considering on road price of this bike, it will be niche product in 150cc. Typical 1500CC market for those people who want reasonable performance at affordable price. I dont this this product will be tough competition to current 150CC market.

Thirdly FI on this bike wont create any turbulence due to niche nature of this product.Putting FI on 150cc wont bring any dramatic real world advantages.I dont see this bike to have considerable market share to scare competition.

New Fazer will be even more niche product because in the same price one can get far more powerful bikes (Karizma,Pulsar 200).
FZ 2013 models are giving 45 km/l from quite sometime. This is in Real world conditions. I have 2011 model and the day I want to get 42 km/l mileage I can. I just have to ride below 60km/hr and avoid quick accleration.

The new models are FI and have reduced power. They would give 50 for some, 46 for some.. Let time do the talking here.

See the 2013 mileage here New Yamaha FZ 16 India 2013, Price, Mileage, Reviews, Specifications - Overdrive and here http://www.xbhp.com/talkies/motorcyc...873-print.html

I never said fazer would make it big.. though karizma is not its competitor. 200 NS is the one that competes with it head on and wins easily!

I remember Bajaj releasing advertisements in 2010-11 that "pulsar is the most sold sportz bike in India" with japanese crowd saying some hunto!! Because pulsar 135 cc or above sells 5 times more than any japanese bike in India.

This is called turbulence.. direct attack by Bajaj on Japanese bikes(who never made 135 cc motorcycles to compete in the 'sportz' category which Pulsar created).. if pulsars were selling hot, why such an advertisement? I seriously doubt any bike less than a R15 to be called a sportz bike.

What turbulence FZ 2.0 creates will be seen rather than debated. Lets wait and watch. Bajaj folks would have already prepared the next ad 'against' FZ.

we can even call a 50cc bike a sports bike if it has class leading power and better handling , there' s no minimum requirement to be followed for a sports bike tag. since pulsars have class leading power, decent braking and handling theirs nothing wrong in calling them as sports bike...

"A sportbike is a motorcycle whose enjoyment consists mainly from its ability to perform on all types of paved highway – its cornering ability, its handling, its thrilling acceleration and braking power, even (dare I say it?) its speed."

Sport bike - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sport bikes emphasize speed, acceleration, braking, and cornering on paved roads,[3][5][13][14] typically at the expense of comfort and fuel economy in comparison to less specialized motorcycles.[1][6] Because of this, there are certain design elements that most motorcycles of this type will share. Sport bikes have comparatively high performance engines resting inside a lightweight frame. Inline-four engines dominate the sport bike category, with V-twins having a significant presence, and nearly every other engine configuration appearing in small numbers at one time or another.[1] The combination of these elements helps maintain structural integrity and chassis rigidity.[1] Braking systems combine higher performance brake pads and multi-piston calipers that clamp onto oversized vented rotors.[1] Suspension systems are advanced in terms of adjustments and materials for increased stability and durability.[1] Most sport bikes have fairings, often completely enclosing the engine, and windscreens that effectively deflect the air at very high speeds, or at least reduce overall drag.[1]
Sport bikes have high foot pegs that position the legs closer to the body to improve ground clearance when cornering, and a long reach to the hand controls, which positions the body and center of gravity forward, above the fuel tank. The rider leans forward into the wind, the force of which can comfortably support the rider's weight at speeds near 100 mph (160 km/h), but at lower speeds leaves too much weight on the arms and wrists, causing fatigue.

Types of motorcycles - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

A Pulsar 135 even a Pulsar 220 with excellent cornering ability, excellent handling, thrilling acceleration, braking power would be called a sport bike but this bike is yet to be made.

Please dont call commuter bikes a sport bike!! Spare this terminology for a selected class of motorcycles and avoid using it for every cycle without a pedal!

Hunto!! Japanese were saying this for Bajaj calling their motorcycles as sportz bikes!

r125 is termed as supersport and even not sports, agree it has good handling, cornering speeds but tell me can you recall how much power it makes....the first thing that comes to anybody's mind when they hear sportsbike is power, now without that how could they term it a supersport...
pulsars had class leading power(135/150/220) with decent handling and cornering speeds, it justifies the sports tag better then a bike with all show and no goooo!! may be this is why bajaj made japanese say HUNTO!!

In the above definitions do you see power mentioned anywhere? If you remember, I have mentioned that R15 can be called a sports bike.. it makes way too less power than the P220. I mentioned R15 because that is what is available for the masses in India at the moment. Once CBR 125, R125, KTM RC 125 comes to India those will be the cheapest sportz bikes in India.

All I say is, if by any chance my kid gets an assignment to draw a sportz bike, he should not draw a pulsar 135, 220 etc. as is shown in the commercials.
Rather to put it simply, he should not draw a bike that comes with a center stand!

Pick a sportz bike from below: All of them is not an option!

the sportsbike definition itself has thrilling acceleration and speed, does r125 have any of these....
that sports bike thing was just for promotion sake in the same way yamaha used supersport for r125. when people can accept a 125cc as supersport just because it has a full fairing and no center stand, theirs nothing wrong in promoting a quarter faired touring bike which has 1.25 times the power and decent handling and priced lower then the so called supersport..

Chill guys, Bajaj used the word "sports bike" to attract the masses. Its no longer their premium bike(currently P200 NS), hence they risked diluting the image of P220. They know that, Indian customer base is ignorant about the synonyms of such terms. Even TVS has a "Sport" model 100cc( seriously LOL) and certain people say, its 100cc sport bike. For Bajaj, Discover is a Sports Tourer(Again, a marketing strategy). But why should we complain? They are hit products.
And yes, the general concept in India- Any bike doing more than 100KPH is a sports bike. FZ16/Fazer could easily take the Sports tourer tag in india.

I know this post will be deleted as off topic discussion, but cant help.

Your source itself mentions sport bike requires thrilling acceleration. R15 hardly meets the criteria so should we stop calling it sports bike ? 'Sports bike' for Indian people is very subjective - there is no right and wrong. Thus there is nothing wrong in calling pulsars a sport bike if R15 with such a low acceleration can be called as sports bike.

Coming back to new FZ, I dont see any ground breaking feature to create any sort of turbulence. For me ,it will be success even if makes half the sales of original FZ due to its price point.

I think even design wise it's a step back. The muffler for one doesn't compliment a street 'brute'. The older steel coloured short muffler was class.
The tank shroud/extension looks awkward and an afterthought. Strangely though this is a standard feature in all naked bike design(even international the duke 1290, the false fairing on the Kawasaki Z 800, the streeple etc etc), but at least it has not been well done on the Fz

The last upgrade before this overhaul however spoiled the design a little bit by extending the rear mudgaurd. But the latest doesn't make the bike look 'sexier' in a way the R15 v2 did.
The original FZ with it's minimalist style and 'brutish' look was an iconic bike for India and surprisingly still looks like million bucks in the 150 class(save the R15).

Today saw FZS V 2.0, the styling done by yamaha was looking cool rather than muscular as previous version looked.
Instrument console looks better and more up market than before.
Negative thing was tyre hugger which will be first thing to be removed.

Design is OK for me but not the power decrease. Also, at this price, either a rear disc or ABS would've been welcome.
A bike on the road is worth two in the shed.

ABS would have increased the price by another 10,000/- or so and at the current power rear drum are also quite efficient, with a well balanced chassis like yamaha.
