This is some serious stuff man! Heck, i guess a lot of people will now be canning plans of Leh now. If they did that to a Fortuner, which most people will think twice about even getting close to, i can only imagine what they'd do to a bike. When will this country become sane? Sigh, this is the reason most Indians settle abroad.

Its bound to happen to every single place that becones a "fashion tourist destinatio" for most of them just to boast of being lehd. This is just the starting, every renowned tourist spot will go through this some or other day. Glad that uttrakhand and nort east are still far from this. But till when.........

Well I am from himachal and not proud of what is happening there right now. Whatever is the issue but allowing your animal side is not the way to go and I hope we remain peace loving himachalis....

First of all, it happened in Leh, which is part of J&K.

Putting blame on Himachal is not right. Though this incident shouldn't be ignored

Apart from that let me tell you the exact issue:

NGT idiotic decision came out, they were charging like hell to go for Rohtang.
Manali Taxi Union protested this, though they can live with that coz whenever you hire any cab, it customer who pays for all the toll tax or any other entry fee.
Still Manali Taxi Union stood for right thing. During that time whenever any tourist comes to them for Rohtang they ask them to go via bus or contact any other state Cab who comes for dropping tourists.

Later when they saw no gives damn to there strike, and everyone taking advantage of there situation. They started resisting all the traffic to Rohtang.

What about other state drivers , driving rashly & crashing?

We people can't even ride our motorcycles on NH 21 due these idiots. Still we believe that its just bunch of idiots but unfortunately 99% of other state drivers drive recklessly.

If you don't believe me, come here I'll show you.

Also do ask anyone who got crashed, how they were treated, irrespective of whose fault it was.

People say if it would have been any other place, they would have been smashed and there vehicle should have been damaged.

Right or wrong, idiotic or intelligent is usually a matter of opinion and perspective.

Forgive me for not quite understanding what your post was about or what you were trying to imply. Not trying to start a argument here. Seems you have other side of the story or the taxi people's perspective on the whole thing, do share that.

Anyway, I hope you don't mean to imply that because in any other place things might have been worse, this somehow means that this incident should be taken lightly, or that it should be considered a lesser crime than it was.

I do agree with you that NGT cannot simply ban things immediately. Sadly knee jerk response to every problem has been all too common in our country.

There can be no rationale of any sort for this kind of thuggery, this is pure arson. Unfortunately this is the the prevailing logic in our ****** up country, if some one or group is affected then they feel it is their right to vent their anger on anyone they come across. Barbarism at it's best.

This is how people have been treated.
I am so pissed off watching and hearing all these from people that honestly I would strike off Leh Ladakh from my trip destinations in future. And would ask the same in my group for at least an year, so that they would understand what happens when they loose business. Its better to do Spiti and venture out in Uttrakhand then going to a place where safety becomes the biggest concern.

WTH!! This is nasty and thank God that they got out before........ I know how scary it is to be at the receiving end of such an attack.

But J&K being one of the most corrupt states, nothing will be done unless there is loss of lives People should boycott Leh for few years and teach those mindless people how important tourists are.

Honestly, let them understand this the hard way, one year of less tourism and they would come back to acting normal.

4 wheelers were already banned. The ban has now been extended to 2 wheelers also.

Yes...... But thats another story.

The last i knew before this , was that outside taxis and rental.cars were not allowed.

I am just back from Leh and I saw like 1000s of bikers, both rented and with personal bike from manali and from leh, going , coming and crossing Rohtang pass.
Even while I crossed rohtang I did not find any blocking or checking or any of these.

SO please before spreading this new get it verified.

I came back from leh this weekend. and I found many bikers who are using personal or rented bike to cross rohtang, and no one complained.
Not even any blockade, for checking. every thing seems normal.

Other than this there can be restriction on 4 wheeler, as rohtang is environmental sensitive and as the veichels during on season become unmanagebale, so it is appropriate.

Did you see the date of my post? At that time there were loads of problems and issues and because od those I would still think twice going there. Spiti and north east is far better than this.
