Re: Karizma r and ZMR discontinued in india

Karizma was commonly known as "1 Lakh wali Sport bike" in early days as it was out of reach of many indians . those who bought it told stories about how insanely it accelerated ( Slide carb ) . I personally loved the golden embossed Karizma on black tank , something we wont witness ever now. It was ages ahead of its time , electric start , DC electricals and electronic tripmeter and odo. This bike was a trendsetter and truly a legend . No wonder it has such huge fanbase in India .

Few years down the line i saw ZMR in flesh but couldnt ride it as i was little uncomfortable with floating fairing design. But when i did , God it blew my socks away . It pulled like diesel engine and throttle response was crisp as Lays chips thanks to FI , Every time i nailed throttle engine responded with surge or torque very evenly spread and doing 80-90 was effortless.

Both these bikes were my personal favorite and if i could i would have bought one of them without a second thought . But Hero had made a deal with EBR and they gave them a shot to design these bikes.

Indians didnt like the styling and , it was the sole factor for their death. Engine in ZMR had some troubles initially which was figured out in later batches but it was too late for Hero to cope up with competition which had come miles ahead of them.

From normal person's POV , ZMR and ZMA had everything a sub 1L bike should have , respectable FE , Huge service network and fit & finish which was above competition.

Sadly people now dont want all these but focus mainly on power and looks, well we cant blame them , its just my personal view on priorities in a bike.

Lets hope Hero pulls a card this time and makes to quarter litre segment atleast otherwise 100-150cc is the only market Hero will have , that too not for long as competition is rising furiously.

Hero i hope you understand " Time and Tide waits for none ".
Its time you showed HX and Hastur in market.

EBR should be kicked for this ugly design. Relation of hero with ebr hampered because of failure of new model.
Heard that hero is working on completely new motorcycle to replace current karizma.

Re: Karizma r and ZMR discontinued in india

After reading all testimony in two pages...i must say, feeling nostalgic about the bike.

Here is my side of story...It was love at first site with KARIZMA. I used to drool at the bike in ad where Hrithik was racing it against the jet. I made a promise to myself, one day m gonna buy this beauty.

But it was only in 2007 i managed to buy one. That time i was struggling in job, just getting paid 3000/- and was paying 1800/- for the emi. So this baby means a lot to me. And am gonna keep it for life time.

Fast forward 2014 the Karizma were launched and my first reaction was what the shit is this!!! They (Hero) just murdered the legend.

Even i had heard the the guys at ASC were taking feedback from the zma customers.

The changes i think to be incorporated in the zma are

              1. Fat suspension forks.
              2. 17" fat rubber (it gets tough to find 18" fat tyres, where more than half of bikes run on 17")
              3. I feel the old design can still work.
              4. Better plastic quality.
              5. More power to compete with other bikes.
              6. ABS will be most welcome.
              7. Kill switch.

Re: Karizma r and ZMR discontinued in india

i am a 2012 zma owner with 80k on odo. the bike runs on and on like a locomotive. just get the old bike back, probably with a bit more power. even more power is not needed, as i feel this bike is more than enough for our roads. i have counted that i have pushed the bike to its limit of above 120-130 only 42 times in this 80k run that too only for a few kms at a stretch.

things i would like the new zma:

power output( not much of a need from my view) this is a bike that you ride when you have a super state of mind
bigger sections tyres probably my choice is pirelli
                55/60 headlight
                rear disc brakes
i want the old yellow meters rather than black dial
                rear red mag wheels

with all this an on road price of 1- 1.05 lakh i would definately buy this bike again.

                      Confirmed with Hero Sales manager,

ZMA/ZMR production was closed long back itself. Now they are working on new models/replacements for 200-250cc segment. But no further words or rumours on those. It might take 1 year to release products, he told.

Nice to see that officials cleared the doubt. We would be seeing next generation products from hero after a long time. Nearly after a decade in 150 cc + category.

What i have heard is that they may release the old model with some updates to the design. No clear info about the updates and hx 250 is not coming any soon

                              Regarding that,

Nope, old model will never come back, again spoke with the manager.

Hero still lists ZMA/ZMR in website, because Dealers in many cities have huge unsold stocks. Hero wants to clear it. If not stocks cleared, dealers will obviously not order for new vehicles, due to sales bitter experience.

Overall Karizma brand is as good as dead. I deserpately wanted to buy Karizma since 5 long years, but fate eluded me every time

Yeah I hope that hero brings karizma brand back with a bang. I want hero to remain top manufacturer of our country. Seems like they are working on various motorcycles in premium segment. Source is CNBC TV18.
