Neo Sports Café: Honda CB300R coming to India under INR 2.5 Lakhs

Honda’s a bit late in unveiling their New Year surprise for India but it is welcome nonetheless. In a rather surprising move, Honda has confirmed that their lowest displacement Neo Sports Café offering, the Honda CB300R will go on sale in India in2019. They have also stated that it will be brought to India as a CKD (Completely Knocked Down) unit. And the most important bit is that it will be priced under INR 2.5 Lakhs (Ex-Showroom). Customers interested in the new Honda bike can book it for INR 5,000 at the 22 Honda Wing World dealerships across India.

Unveiled globally at the EICMA 2017, the Honda CB300R is a part of Honda’s Neo Sports Café portfolio. It also follows the neo-retro styling just like the CB 1000R with a round headlamp, chiseled fuel tank and a minimalistic tail. They have also added the LED headlights and USD forks. The CB300R features an all-digital LCD instrument cluster which has readouts for speed, engine rpm, and fuel level and gear position. Honda also launched the CB1000R in India just a while ago at INR 14.46 Lakhs (Ex-Showroom).

Powering the bike is a 286cc DOHC 4-valve liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine churning out 30.9PS of power at 8,500rpm and 27Nm of torque at 7,500rpm. It comes mated to a 6-speed transmission and Honda claims a fuel economy figure of 30.2kmpl. As far as underpinnings are concerned, the CB300R features a tubular steel frame, which is suspended on 41mm USD forks at the front and a preload adjustable monoshock, while the swingarm is a steel-plate unit. Braking is handled by a 296mm front disc with a four-piston caliper and a 220mm disc at the back with a single-piston caliper. Dual-channel ABS will also be on offer.

Seat height is relatively low at 779mm and the bike tips the scale at 143kg (kerb weight). A fuel tank capacity of 10 litres will restrict its touring ability. We expect the Honda CB300R to go on sale in India by March and it will compete against the KTM 390 Duke, BMW G 310 R and the Royal Enfield Interceptor 650 (with respect to pricing).

At ₹1.99-2.10 lakhs ex-showroom it might become a good buy and value for money. Above or around ₹2.75lakhs on road price, there are 300cc/650cc twin cylinders to buy with slightly extra money.

Only thing working in it's favour is the sweet power to weight ratio and cool retro looks. Let's see how the market responds.

        Cheers!

A 6.2 second 0-100kmph for a 286cc single is pretty good! I'm sure with a lighter rider and a good launch 5.8/5.9 second is achievable.

Will be good fun motorcycle to ride in city almost nearing Duke 390 levels!

            Shouldn't it be 30.9 PS at 8500 RPM? Typo I guess. [emoji16]
This is going to be a sweet and fun bike. Low weight, low seat height(thank you Honda for understanding that not all Indians have legs like Stacy Keibler or Maria Sharapova).
The only fly in the ointment - 10L tank. But then smaller Dukes run on similar setup so this should be ok. It's gonna be zippy in mild traffic and super nice to ride. Probably the 2nd Honda worth putting money on - 650F/650R(you are still a sweetheart).

I'd call it that it'll be on par levels with the Duke 250, Mojo, CBR 250R and not with the 390 levels.

10L fuel tank is always a pain to deal with, with having to maintain another 1-1.5L minimum fuel for the Fi fueling reasons, so usable range being only around 8L.
Everything seems to falling in place with this bike, only hope they price it sensibly and not get too greedy.

Who are we kidding!!! It's Honda and they will get greedy.
Their brother Yamaha isn't that far.

Don't those motorcycles have above 8 second 0-100kmph?

My reference with Duke 390 was in relation to 0-100kmph. The CB300R does it in 6 seconds, while the Duke 390 does it 5.5 seconds.

Do keep in mind that the CB300R's wet/kerb weight of 143kgs is 20 kgs lighter than 2017 D390, 18kgs lighter than D250, 20kgs lighter than old CBR250R and almost 40kgs lighter than Mojo and Dominar.

So it's fun/thrill riding factor will come close to D390. This will be good alternative to the D390. A rider who doesn't want the angry acceleration of the 390 but wants a more mature motorcycle with the superior service and reliability of Honda.

Honda has woken up late but is bringing a good motorcycle finally in the 300cc class.

An xbhp ride review will give us the full picture soon!

Re: Neo Sports Café: Honda CB300R coming to India under INR 2.5 Lakhs

Wow, an air cooled Apache RTR 160 weighs 139 kg, so a liquid cooled 286 cc bike with ABS at this weight is a phenomenal feat. Should be a fun city bike for sure. And while on the highway, it is wiser to carry a jerry can with extra fuel in it all the time. I have had problems with even the CBR250R's tank range with 13L capacity, so this one would be very risky to take chances on unknown routes.

                      Re: CB300R confirmed for India?

Honda had patented the cb300 a while back in India. And now they are launching it.
So by that logic will they launch the cbr 250rr? They had patented it also.

Theres LED lighting, the dope-looking fork, the lower curb weight, and the tidy all-digital dash. It’s got more features than before, including current and average mpg, a coolant-temperature gauge, and an adjustable shift light. Those are useful and appreciated features. But you know what would be more useful and appreciated? A gear-position indicator.

You want me to spend 4000INR + shipping to import a GPI on a Bike that is likely to cost ~2.5lacs onroad?

When bikes like Gixxer and RTR160 have GPIs in them what excuse does CB300R have for not having it?

Even Hornet160 got upgraded last year to include GPI
