          • We are counting the chicks before they are hatched, but anyways if they bring all the models, that would be wonderful (I mean for the guys who can afford to buy them).

But if its only a few models- my guess for Indian market

            1. Sportster 883- For those that want to enter the exclusive league at a relatively affordable price

            2. V-Rod- For the young richie guy who wants something thats aggressive & will not look too out of place with his sportbike friends

            3. Fatboy- Some of the macho bikers with a membership at the local gym

            4. Roadking/Ultra Classic: For some guys with serious attitude and dough in their pockets (would guess about 16-20 laks)

The other softails, dynas, wide glides etc may not be so hot property in India although I think the softail standard would be a great platform for guys wanting to chopperize(!) their bikes.

The best thing about Harleys is that even after 20 years your bike is never considered old!!! The bad thing in India is that you will be stopped & repeatedly complimented for 'a great job on modifying a bullet'!!

                          • Harley said on Thursday that it had named Anoop Prakash as the managing director of its newly-announced India unit and had begun the process of seeking dealers in key cities such as Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad and the state of Punjab.

The company expects a growing economy, rising middle class and investment in highways to boost leisure motorcycle riding in the country. India is now dominated by small, inexpensive bikes that are used as essential transportation.

Building a long-term business, not gaining volumes or market share in India, is the company's immediate priority.

"We are not looking for any flash in the pan sort of performance. We would invest for the long haul because we thing India has got great strengths as an economy," Levatich said.

Prakash said the company would appoint the first few dealers by the first half of 2010 and was "actively" seeking financing partners.
So, Even the first half of 2010 is not too far. Just some 7-8 months or so, ain't it?

Best of Luck Harley Davidson, and Welcome to India. If I was a Cruiser Lover, HD would have been a heaven to be on.

Harley will import bikes and sell them as complete units in India and has no plans for the time being to set up an assembling or manufacturing facility in the country, he said.
Oh Well, I guess nobody anticipates CKD, or does anyone?
