F1 racing is definitely a sport

i remember once i was watching a news channel
there was a discussion going on F1 racing

according to them revenue that govt gains from one session of F1 racing is equivalent to what govt spend in one month on a metro city

any way every one knows that F1 racing is most expensive sport and lot of revenue can be generated from it

BTW our govt is least bothered about common wealth games so how can we expect them to accept F1 as a sport

      YES YES they are right

CRICKET is the only sport in India

P.S: then to them, MotoGP must be some stupid ass people trying to cause havoc on road (yes they'll call a circuit this only, A Road)

Its the truth and even the link i give below does not say the true facts.
Their are a lot of holes in the report itself. For instance the report says their are no deaths due to starvationin tamil nadu i was ROFL when i read that. They forgot about the middle aged couple that died in front of egmore railway station due to starvation. And they also forgot about the parent's who killed their 3 young children and took their own life due to starvation. The dead people dont talk .......If you are a politician thats a good thing.

True, its a street circuit. I was actually a lucky witness to the first ever Night F1 Race at the Street Circuit at Singapore. I mentioned Singapore as a reference to the kind of money spent on the (non) sport even when they do not have a representation of a solid kind in it! It is not just the entertainment but, as a lot of people here mentioned, also the revenue generated.

I don't agree wid all of you as govt has to cater lot of sports and
F1 one single track cost more than the whole sports budget for the country
and govt. spend that on F1 what will happen to other sports
F1 itself is a big sport and it needs no help and it has lots of money and sponsors but other sports doesn't have that much of sponsors and money.
Money spent of one sports is equal to 100 other sports.

                        F1 = 100 other sports of olympics

Bro, you need to also consider the fact here that there is no way the govt. is going to spend the entire money on building the track.. It will have a majority private stake, & its not that the money spent on building the track will go for a waste..
A sporting event of the magnitude of a Formula1 Grand Prix will generate tremendous revenues & taxes for the govt. Moreover, it will have a mutiplier effect, as racing as a sport in the country will get a huge boost, thus developing the sport & the regions around the race track further..
The track will be used for Formula1 for only 3 days of the 365 days.. The rest of the days provide ample revenue generating opprotunities, if the race track management is smart enough..
& i don't see a point in you bringing out the sponsorship issues here!

i am really not in favor of govt for not building tracks and all cuz i know F1 will bring lot of money due to sponsors etc, but i do not defy that its wrong to define it as sports but entertainment, cuz the mental and physical pressure applied is due to machine and not self initiated, for eg, a cycle race or a marathon, plus burning gazillion of fuel.

I am in favor of track and races as it will push India's name forward and rake in loads of moolah and tourism.

Also as per the article govt should first promote hockey, tennis etc then complain i agree.

really good one there.I don't see why the govt should be opposing it.True it involves more money than other sports but I can't see any other sport stand out in Indian context. And I stand by each and every word that tibby said....true that the pressure is not self initiated, but what about the pressure drivers go through while driving. That Petronas ad gives a much clearer picture of that....A real sport is the one which tests human limits and F1 does just that...
It all begins with a thumb-start -- Oh, wait, I forgot the kill-switch
