Figures, but strange, they didn't see 800ccs & 12lacs of vast difference...
This way they have should have included Yamaha also in 200cc+ segment with its R1 .
      Accelerating :)

              • Power ride: TVS to launch 200cc and above bikes

                Source: SIAM

TVS Motors is gearing up for an adrenaline rush as the company plans to launch bikes powering 200cc and above at a time when it is also finalising a partnership with British auto giant BMW for two-wheelers.

HS Goindi, President (Marketing) at TVS, said that the company is beefing up product line-up across categories, and power bikes are on its radar. "We are looking at the higher segment which is 200cc and above. You can expect them over the next one-and-a-half years," Goindi said after launching a new 125 cc bike, "Phoenix 125", priced at Rs 49,990 (ex-showroom lac, New Delhi).

Goindi said that while TVS would rely heavily on the company's in-house R&D set-up for developing the bikes, it may also approach agencies outside. "We have a robust R&D set-up at TVS and this will take the lead in development. However, we can also approach outside institutions and design houses, if required."

TVS' close rivals already sell 200cc-plus bikes in Indiaand these include the Hero Karizma, Bajaj's Pulsar and Avenger and Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India's CBR250R. The Apache is currently the most powerful bike in TVS' portfolio and comes strapped with 160cc and 180cc engines.

Goindi said that TVS may go in for an all-new brand when it comes out with the high-end bikes. "These and other details are being worked out."

On the company's talks with BMW, he said it could be firmed up before the end of the ongoing fiscal. "Talks are on (with BMW) and we expect something to materialise before the end of the ongoing fiscal."

He, however, declined to comment on the nature and details of the partnership. BMW already sells it high-end bikes in India since 2010.

Goindi said apart from power bikes, TVS also plans has for new launches in other segments. "We will be adding to our scooter range with the introduction of a new vehicle around April which will compete with the HondaActiva. This will add to the scooty and the Wego models that we currently have."

In motorcycles, the company has a plan to revive the Victor brand and this should be out in the next fiscal. "A new version of the 110cc Victor will be out in the second quarter of next year and we are confident that the new portfolio will help TVS grab a bigger share in motorcycle sales."

Two-wheeler sales of TVS in the first seven months of this fiscal are down 8% at 10.46 lakh units, led by a fall in demand for scooters and motorcycles.

TVS currently sells a range of motorcycles, starting from entry level TVS Sport in the 100 cc segment to the 180 cc model TVS Apache.

A lot of old news are being dug up recently due to a fresh articles on them, in news portals. Somewhere in my mind, I find it hard to trust anything, even if it comes from reliable sources. Yes, Reliable news sources may give you the correct info on what the company says its planning. But what about the validity of what the company says itself?

Time is the only reliable source of news nowadays. Everything else is either reporting or an attempt to play with your mind and opinions. Still, let's hope the 200cc+ RTR makes it through and challenges the P200 NS itself, rather than P220.

LOL.. British auto gaint! I guess the Germans won't be too kind reading this! the news doesn't even say that they are working on such a bike, it only says that they are going to. So, let us check back after some 3-4 years to see where TVS stands with this 200cc in partnership with BMW (obviously not the British one, we know German is better )

                        • What I don't understand is that TVS already has a 250CC platform, what is stopping them from using it on a comercially built performance oriented 2 wheeler

                          • LMAO a Press release which calls BMW a British Auto brand is supremely funny!
So much for the RTR200 .. and when they that "We have a robust R&D set-up at TVS and this will take the lead in development. However, we can also approach outside institutions and design houses, if required." they indirectly say that they have not LEAD into development, and have not even began work on designs.
So the hopefull TV-Loyal-RTR-Fan-Me hopes that they started work the very next day.
And the sceptical-critique-me wakes up and continues sipping my coffee!
